NOOOOOOOO!!! I can’t believe they closed down! They were THEBEST. Most amazing hot sandwiches(philly cheesesteak was my fave), and they made their potato chips fresh too! The people who worked there were great as well. Best wishes to them!

Sandwiches were nice, but the gentleman named«jack«probably not his real name behind the counter must be bipolar. His customer service skills are below par, I will not be recommending this establishment to anyone in my blog. I used a Groupon. :(

Pretty much one of my favorite Sub/Food eateries on the West coast! Try the THC, try the Sandwich Special of the day, try organic beef burgers that melt in your mouth or just trying everything! I have never tried there cold sandwiches but I have heard they are amazing. Cheers PS I am sorry you had a bad experience Sasha F. The owner actually kicked a guy out for being rude to the customers and told him he was never aloud back when I was in Sandos yesterday. I believe drama and fighting aren’t going to get much accomplished, so yes the owner is a nice guy but he isn’t a perfect human and I think everyone has their days… READERBEWARE; just because these things are happening doesn’t mean there is always drama in that shop. There are just a lot of people in Southern California and a lot of the dramatic ones come to Manhattan Beach unfortunately. So I have to deal with it and so does the owner of the sandwich shop and we are locals. That’s life :-)

As I was heading towards Sandos, saw a bunch of fit people doing Bikram Yoga and I thought, «Hmmm… maybe I should be healthy and go eat a salad…» Once I walk in, all thoughts of eating healthy is forgotten and I order the awesome sandwich with some freshly fried potato chips. The THC(Turkey, ham & cheese) is as American as it can be. Grilled turkey and ham, melted provolone, and all the toppings make this sandwich almost a must if you’ve never tried Sandos. Heck, it was even rated as one of the top sandwiches in LA by LA Mag. Nothing new to it, but it is just the way it is constructed make this an awesome sandwich. The Off the Chart is definitely something more unique, especially with the artichoke tapenade. Chicken parm is gloriously savory, and even more so when you add pepperoni to it. There’s also cold sandwiches here but really, I think the best part about Sandos is their hot sandwiches. Magic is seriously created on their griddle. As for sides, I’m a huge fan of their fresh thinly sliced crispy potato chips. Way better than any old bag of chips! This place is extremely small and easily missed. Best for to-go and find a spot somewhere. Street parking so… if you’re here on a weekend… good luck, as this area is notoriously hard to find a spot. The people are extremely nice and energetic which I love! Have not tried the burger yet but on my list!

Great free range burgers here, the meat is good quality and extremely tasty. Highly recommend Mushroom/Swiss Burger or the Screaming Burger(bacon, avocado & cheese). The place is small and you sit on the counter which only seats about 3 people max.

2.5 stars… Not worth the hassle to just go here from where I live. But decided to give this place a try since I had a Groupon expiring in a few days. I brought my mom with me and we ordered a Chicken Cheesesteak, Screaming Burger, and sweet potato fries. WITH my $ 12 Groupon I still had to pay an extra $ 9. So I found it bit pricey. To add the fries it’s an additional $ 2(may have been more for the sweet potato, but the less than engaging girl that took our order didn’t say anything). Oh and btw they don’t give it with a soda anymore. The menu in store has it crossed out. Another thing I wasn’t too fond of is the customer service. The girl that took the order wasn’t that friendly. It was a vibe that didn’t come off the right way. Also it wasn’t busy and we were the only ones there, so you’d expect them to be cool and chill. Maybe it’s her personality, either way it’s not a good first impression on first time customers. But boy did that change with a group of boys walked in… go figure. I was very disappointed with my Chicken Cheesesteak. There was just no flavor at all. My mom’s burger and the fries were good though. Those saved it from being a 2 star review. Overall because it took forever to find parking, the customer service/friendliness lagged, and only ok food, I doubt I’ll ever try to come back just because. Maybe I ordered the wrong thing, but oh well… sorry Sandos…

Wow @Sandossubshop! Ooh I am your 100th reviewer and I have to say I am impressed with your place. My coworker and fellow Unilocaler Rich S. has got to be your biggest fan and he has been telling me and my other coworker all about your fabulous sandwiches for the longest time. He gave us each a free sandwich voucher and today was the day we got to use it. Right from the start, I knew that I would like this place. I like the look of the place. It’s colorful and lively painted walls and doors give a welcoming vibe. When you step in, it is a small, cute place with only a couple chairs. The owner Ryan happily will hand out menus and give his recommendations as well :). I chose to get the chicken cheesesteak with white American cheese. My coworkers also got sides of mixed fries(sweet and regular), garlic fries and onion rings and I got to try some of those. I liked the chicken cheesesteak a lot. It is filled with plenty of chicken and loved the mixed of melted cheese and sweet peppers. The whole sandwich is huge and half of the sandwich was more than enough to leave me full. Tasty chicken, yummy cheese, crispy bread = great sandwich. I got to try a little of the sides that my coworkers got. The garlic fries are filled with lots of garlic lol. It is yummy especially when eaten right away while it is fresh and hot. I liked the mixed fries too. The sweet potato fries are tasty. I also like that the fries were not too salty. I think out of all the sides though I liked onion rings the best. The batter is different — it has nice kick to it that is unique to these onion rings. I would get these again. Lastly, I got some sweet iced tea for $ 2. It was a nice sweet drink to accompany a great meal(plus it helped wash down those garlic fries haha) Sandos has an extensive list of sandwiches and salads too. I can’t wait to try the other stuff here. They have classic type sandwiches and unique ones too. Good customer service, good food. Tiny place but big on taste. Thanks Sandos! P.S The one thing I am bummed about is that I didn’t notice they give some speical offers like free chips and fries if you have the Sandos iphone app or if you follow them on twitter… hehe I will have to remember that for next time ;)

I just had one of the best sub sandwiches ever. I just happened to be driving through Manhattan Beach and found this place on Unilocal. It is a total hole in the wall. There are no tables, just a counter and some stools. And they really try to rush you out. My sandwich was ready in less than two minutes. I ordered a Coastal Club, which is a turkey, bacon and cheddar cheese on a home baked sourdough roll. The roll was perfect. The bacon was fresh and thick and came with all the veggies and sprouts. They also put this pepper sauce on it which was absolutely delicious. It was spicey but not too spicey. This place is definitetly worth a try. The downside is that it is no where near a freeway so its tough to get to.

My coworker introduced me to this place and I can’t believe it’s taken me this long(2 ½ years) to try this place since it’s down the street from where I work. WTF is up with that? WoW. Anyways, we ordered to go and decided to pick it up. Of course I ordered the THC since I saw that it was a signature sandwich that people get here. Turkey, Ham and Cheese(Provolone). The sandwich was long and delicious. You can taste every flavor in your mouth. The best also was the fresh homemade potato chips that you can get with a drink($ 2). Not bad at all. First of all, don’t try to go here and sit down to eat. It’s a strictly order your food and be on your way type of place. I do love sandwiches for lunch and I can tell you that this will NOT be the last time I come here. I’m just upset that I didn’t come here any sooner. WTF?

Once I walked into Sandos and realized that every sandwich on the menu sounded delicious, I knew that I’m probably going to be frequenting this place whenever I’m in the mood for a hot sandwich. Per some random Unilocal reviews, I ordered the THC. Fresh off the grill, this sandwich was filled to the brim with hot meats and lots of flavorful veggies. The bread was tasty and went well with all the delicious sandwich insides. My friend ordered the Chyvito(steak and egg sandwich), which just might be what I’ll get the next time. Next time you’re in hermosa looking for a meal, step into Sando’s, play some Connect Four while you wait, and bite into one of the best sandwiches in the area.

This review pertains solely to the burgers at Sandos Sub Shop: Sandos Sub Shop was tiny-counter seating only – room for 6. It was just a counter, a register, and a kitchen. The gas grill was tiny – about 3 sq ft, and they had a flat top for toasting buns and cooking onions and other hot sub toppings including cheese steaks. We ordered a couple of plain cheeseburgers with American cheese, an order of fries, and a couple of canned sodas – total $ 18.50. The Burger Breakdown… The Beef: Sandos Sub Shop burgers were made with 5 oz. patties of Estancia Beef. This was some of that fancy, free range, grass fed, no antibiotics, no pesticides, no hormones, no feedlot beef that makes some folks better about killing a cow and grinding it up into burger meat. The beef, much like the Chuck from Niman Ranch, came pre-ground, and like that other beef, it was relatively bland and very lean. The only taste that I got from this was iron. It was truly lacking in umami flavor or beefiness. They cooked the heck out of it, so it was not juicy either. The Sear: The sear from the gas grill was impressive. The grill was hot enough to impart a crunchy sear and some char, too. The char was not offputting, because the too large bun was sweet enough to compensate. The Seasoning: Nope… they was sea salt within reach of the grill, but none of it made it onto the beef. The Preparation: The burger patties were pre-formed, and cooked under grilling weights on a blistering hot grill. This imparted great color and a uniform sear, but it pressed out all of the juices from the patties, and it got them to Well Done. The patties were not over-manipulated prior to cooking. so they were not rubbery, but they certainly were on the dry side. The Cheese: The White American cheese saved this burger from a failing grade. The cheese provided moisture, mouth feel, and salt. This burger absolutely required the salt and moisture from the cheese to be palatable. The Bun: This was a standard, seeded, hamburger bun. They toasted in on the grill – both side. The buns were on the dry/stale side, so the toasting robbed them of some much needed moisture. The Meat to Bun Ratio: The dryish bun was too much for the dry burger patty. The cheese put up a mighty fight, but it was also overcome by the large, stale bun. The Fries: These were peel-on, shoestring fries, which were cooked in canola oil. They hit them with sea salt, and the fries were piping hot. The fries were damn good. The Value: Meh…20 bucks with tip for a couple of dry burgers on a dry buns, a single order of fries, and a couple of drinks was a little more than one would expect for a meal of this quality in a joint like Sandos Sub Shop. In spite of the shortcomings in the preparation, the cheese took this burger from a failing grade to passing. I wouldn’t go again, but I don’t regret the visit. Burger Review: The cheeseburgers at Sandos Sub Shop were merely OK. The sear was great, but it came at the cost of juiciness.

(7 Best LA Sandwiches down…10 more to go – from a 2010 Los Angeles Magazine Best Sandwich List) A recent issue of Los Angeles Magazine listed the THC from Sandos Sub Shop as one of the 17 best LA Sandwiches so I knew I needed to pay Sandos a visit. That magazine issue introduced me to a very good sandwich – La Brea Bakery’s marinated artichoke hearts sandwich with spinach, ricotta and pesto on olive bread – so I was hoping for equally good things here even though my favorite LA sandwich did not make the list. That sandwich would be the fried egg sandwich at Huckleberry(Niman Ranch bacon, arugula, melted gruyère, aioli, and two sunny side up eggs on rustic country toast). Sandos Sub Shop is a little storefront(a walk-up stand that is enclosed) on Rosecrans at the north end of Manhattan Beach. While it is not next to the beach, the atmosphere does feel like a quick food stop you would find at the beach/boardwalk. The entrance is a little more than a barely-hanging-there-screen-door. There is a counter to place your order as well as a counter with a few stools to eat. Some reading materials are available as well as a Connect Four game. Behind the counter is a flat-top where they make the hot sandwiches as well as a condiment station where they assemble the sandwiches. The place definitely feels like a neighborhood joint as many regulars stopped by to pick up their orders to go(I think this place delivers too). There was chatting going on between the friendly staff and the locals. Overall, good and quick service with a friendly vibe. I just went with the half version of the THC though they had some good packaged chips available like Pop Chips. Pop Chips are a healthier and in several ways tastier alternative to potato chips. They also have fries. I found out later on Unilocal(at least according to their Unilocal photos) that they have housemade potato chips as well. The THC had many similarities to the hot sandwiches you would get at one of those mall food court cheesesteak places like Great Steak & Potato. The sandwich was served on a soft roll(toasted on the flat-top). The slices of turkey and ham were heated on the flat-top and mixed with grilled onions. Basic lettuce like iceberg and tomato were used to provide a little crispness and freshness to the sandwich. In many ways, the taste of the bread, the meats and the veggies were similar to those chain places. What was different was the stuff you could add to it. The server asked me if I wanted provolone cheese, peppers and spicy mustard. I said yes to all three and those additions really made the sandwich better. Those food court places use cheese too, but the provolone here was better and it melted well. The peppers provided some sweetness and a mild tang. The spicy mustard provided a good kick to the sandwich. Another positive of Sandos’ THC was that it was not greasy or oily(which is often the case with those greasy sandwiches you would get at a Great Steak & Potato). Sandos’ THC was a decent sandwich though it was not something I would rush back to get. Given the limited seating area, it may be an easier to-go place or an okay option if you don’t mind eating in a crammed area or eating-while-standing-up-outside. Sandos did have a variety of sandwiches so this place would probably be worth a try if you live in the area(it is also not too expensive; prices seemed about right). If you don’t live in the area but are a fan of those food court cheesesteak places, you should also consider giving Sandos a try. Since this is not the highest traffic area of Manhattan Beach, parking is not that difficult to find. Parking is available on Rosecrans Ave. Closer parking is available by meter. You can find residential street parking a little farther away(it is free).

Los Angeles is a GREAT sandwich town. From Pastrami at Canter’s and Langers’ to the Orginal French Dip at Phillipe’s to just about EVERY sandwich here at Sandos, LA does them right. I’ve tried a few here at Sandos, but I get the Pizzasteak just about every time. It is unreal. I’m in London right now, and one of my biggest LA cravings is a half sandwich and fries combo from my favorite sandwich shop back home in Manhattan Beach. You can make any day in LA better by heading to Sandos with a couple friends, walking a couple blocks down the street and enjoying both the sando and the beautiful ocean.

A local favourite, and pretty good. The shop is tiny, but that’s okay. The fries are delicious, and the sandwiches are pretty good too. The owner is a really cool guy, and everyone who works there seems really nice. One thing I like about them is that they feature Maki Longboards, a cool new custom longboard(skateboard) designer based out of El Segundo. They used to have a board and disposable camera you could check out from the shop to kick some turns and snap some photos, but then it got stolen earlier this summer :( Back to the shop, though, the sandwiches are HUGE. I definitely need to remember to just order a ½ sandwich next time I’m there. They also have a cool selection of options on the menu, including some things you might not expect.

THC! THC! THC! It’s a total must! As everyone has recommended, CALLAHEADTOPLACEYOURORDER. This place is super small and is hardly a sit-down place. Parking is also extremely limited. Follow the following steps for Sandos success: 1) Call, place your order. 2) Get there. There is some street parking and a 24 min. spot right in front of Sandos. 3) Get in, pay, grab food, leave. 4) Devour elsewhere. I ordered the Hot THC, which was ham, grilled turkey, provolone and the usual fixings: lettuce, onions, and sweet & hot peppers(I skipped on tomatoes). I also ordered a side of the homemade potato chips. I followed the above steps for Sandos success and took my sandwich home for consumption. It was one of the best sandwiches that I have ever eaten. The chips were also bomb. Let’s just say I was disappointed in myself for only ordering half a sandwich instead of a full. Can’t wait to come back here over and over again.

In the middle of a hot, lazy Saturday hanging by the pool in Hermosa, my friends and I decided that sandwiches were a must. My friend recommended Sando’s due to their amazing homemade chips, so we placed an order right away. I was happy to see that they offered whole and half sizes for each of their sandwiches. Apparently it’s best to order out of this place, as the store itself is very small and the parking is practically impossible. I went with my friend’s recommendation of the Turkey Rosecransberry and really enjoyed it… nice thick cuts of turkey and lots of tangy cranberry sauce. The bread was kind of cold and chewy, but I think it may have been sitting there a while. Usually I’m told that it’s much flakier and better. I was very very impressed at their chips — super fresh and warm and crunchy… not to mention pretty darn oily. A great complement to their sandwiches! Finally, I liked that they have can sodas instead of fountain to go with their combos. A can of coke somehow makes me much happier than a fountain when I’m scarfing down my sub!

Paper is still king. It is surprising how having your restaurant featured in a magazine will increase your business. Anyone can post a blog, but to get published is something different. Today our random meal brings us the Hot THC Sando( ). This sandwich was featured in «Los Angeles Magazine’s 17 Great L.A. Sandwiches». This restaurant was closest to the office so we made the trek out to see what the big deal was. The funny thing was that this was the largest lunch group that ever went out together in one trip and Sando’s was by far the smallest location for our large group. We barely fit the 10 of us inside the Sub Shop to place our orders. Good thing the beach was a hop step and a skip away so we all ordered our sandwiches to go and headed to the beach to enjoy our random meal. The sandwich concept is somewhat simple. THC = Turkey, Ham and Cheese. Such a simple sandwich concept, and it made the top 17? Well, one bite and you are in heaven. The sandwich is grilled into a perfect blend of turkey, ham, and provolone cheese. I topped the sandwich with lettuce, tomato, onions, and hot peppers. How good is this really, well, I came back 4 days later to have the same sandwich( ) again and this time in peace by myself. It felt really strange eating at the same place and having the same meal again so soon. I guess it is a not so random, random meal of the day. Don’t forget to order the home made chips( )

Great local joint in Manhattan Beach. The place is small(with 3 bar stools), so it’s best to do a to-go order. However, don’t let the small size fool you since they offer a full range of items from hot and cold sandwiches to salads to vegetarians to burgers. They also offer free delivery to the Manhattan Beach area. The guy behind the counter is very nice and friendly. It’s such a welcoming place. I ordered the Aggle Burger($ 7.50), which is basically their burger with Jalapeño Bottle Caps(Fried Jalapeño Slices) on top, with fries and a drink for $ 2 more. The Aggle burger had a nice taste to it and is definitely better than any fast food burger joint. You can taste the freshness of the meat. The only downside to this place is that parking is limited to the street(bring quarters). Will come again!
