There are a few times in life when you should really stop and smell the roses. Cherry Hill provided such a lovely experience for my picnic. The grounds are immaculate and the beautiful landmarks set the tone for an amazing evening. Overlooking the lake it’s located at 72nd street. Beautiful Cherry Blossoms bloom here in the springtime but this area is well known for its 14-foot fountain. Cherry Hill Fountain is a water fountain in New York City’s Central Park. CHF is located west of the Bethesda Fountain, which is enclosed in a circular plaza in Cherry Hill. Jacob Wrey Mould designed this fountain with the original idea of a watering trough for horses during the 19th century. The fountain consists of a granite dome and sculpted bluestone basin inset with Minton tiles. Crowning the fountain are eight frosted round glass lamps and a golden spire. Although the fountain no longer quenches the thirst of the horses it is still operable. Horse and carriage frequent the area providing rides to people who wish to take in a scenic view of the park.
