We ordered custom popsicles & ice cream pops from Lily Lolly’s for a birthday event at work. Nadia worked with me to choose the best flavors and choices for our party needs. While we went with the most inexpensive option — picking the pops up ourselves from their shop on the day of the event — there were many options available including delivery, courier, or the Lily Lolly’s ladies attending with their ice cream cart and serving the treats. All of the pops were delicious. I tried the coconut in dark chocolate ice cream bar and the grapefruit & Campari fruit popsicle — both were divine! Other guests had the tart plumb popsicle and pistachio and rose ice cream bar, and everyone was raving. Numerous people said these were the best popsicles they’d ever had. When the ladies take your custom order they then go to the local markets to buy fresh ingredients. I believe all the ingredients were fresh, organic, and sustainable to the best of the ladies abilities. At $ 3.50 a pop, these hand-made creations are reasonably priced for Manhattan, especially given the hand-crafted, made-to-order nature of the fare. For a corporate event, birthday party, etc. I would highly recommend ordering from Lily Lolly’s. Give them at least two days’ notice before you want them ready — they have shopping and creating to do once your order is in!

I have this little popsicle throw down with this other Unilocal member, Ellie P, because she challenged me to see who could get to more unique popsicles first. «These popsicles are SOAMAZING, INCREDIBLE, FANTASTIC, ANDOUTOFTHISWORLDFLAVORTASTIC that I challenge Wing L. to a popsicle throwdown!», She wrote in a review. I puffed out my chest and accepted the challenge. We were even at this point 3 for 3. A few days later, she did a one two punch on me by adding two other popsicle reviews including one that we both knew about and were racing to see who could get to first. She won that one. Damn it. I crawled away from that round of the fight whimpering. Not wanting to follow directly in her foot steps to the same popsicle place, I had Lilly Lolly’s Ice Kitchen as my secret weapon. Apparently she knew nothing about this yet. Yeah!!! Lilly Lolly’s, here I come. I first went to a location across the street from Macy’s at 34th St. where a food blog wrote that Lilly Lolly was testing as a possible spot. They weren’t there. Dejected, I went about my other reviews the next few weeks, with these popsicles always in the back of my mind. «I will find you someday», I thought. ” You will be mine. Bwah ha ha ha. Sigh…“ A week ago, another Unilocaler, Amy S, wrote a first review for Lilly Lolly’s. «Their current cart location is on the High Line from 11AM-7PM.» Just like that, I raced to the High Line the first chance I got. After a little misdirection from Lilly Lolly’s own web site(their web indicated location is off by a few blocks from the actual spot as of this review), I finally located them on the high line walkway and happily ordered the 50’s Orange Lolly, which the guy manning the cart told me was their signature popsicle and most popular flavor. It was delicious. They wrote on their web site that they churn their ice cream in small batches and create the popsicles by hand. They also use only natural ingredients to make their popsicles. I could taste the actual orange used in the creation of the 50’s Orange Lolly with hints of the zest and orange juice on the icy outside crust but with a buttery smooth orange flavored ice cream interior. Your childhood orange creamsicle this is not. The only down side to what they offered was that the popsicle that I bought was on the small side and all of the flavors were $ 3.50. If that price point shocks you, then minus a star from my review but after going around tasting different artisan popsicles around NYC these last few months, this price point seems to be the norm these days. As a review for only flavor, I give it five stars. Ellie P, I’m still behind you but catching up fast =)

I was strolling down the High Line a couple days ago when all of a sudden, I started to notice that almost everyone walking in the direction towards me was enjoying a delicious looking popsicle. It was a hot sunny day and those popsicles sure looked good. I kept walking and soon enough, I found the source of the popsicles: an adorable black & white polka-dotted cart labeled Lily Lolly’s Ice Kitchen selling not popsicles, but what they call ice lollies. I love the illustration style of their brand and their hand drawn signs. There were so many yummy sounding flavors to choose from like caramel milk, 50’s orange lolly with white chocolate, passion fruit, fresh mint with dark chocolate, sour cherry in bitter chocolate, and more. They were also featuring the New York black and white lolly. I decided to get the FRESHMINTWITHDARKCHOCOLATE($ 3.50). I could really taste the fact they make all of their ice lollies from scratch with fresh, high-quality natural ingredients(which also explains the priciness). The mint flavor in my ice lolly was really bold and was a perfect match to the thin layer of dark chocolate. It was just the refreshing treat that I needed. Their current cart location is on the High Line from 11AM-7PM. They said they’re planning on staying at this location, but like most food carts and trucks in NYC, you can double check where they are via twitter. So far they only have this one little cart, but they’re hoping to open up a shop in Soho soon. When they do, I’m so there.

It’s totally worth it! Homemade icy, delicious goodness on a stick! I tried the 50’s orange creamsicle and it was amazing! I don’t even like orange! They use high quality ingredients and it didn’t taste heavy at all. Each bite/lick was bursting with flavor. Highly reccomended!

Bit pricey at $ 3.50 a pop, small pop, but this polka dotted cart has interesting combinations organic ice-cream! It was almost 7pm when I got to the cart so the good flavors like Pure Maple Syrup Ice Cream with Maple Coated Walnuts and Pistachio-Rose were sold out! I tried the Apricot Pistachio which is comparable to frozen nutty jam :) It’s self-churned creamy goodness. According to the ice cream man, cart’s there from 10−7pm.
