Looking for an impressive night? VIP Red Room at the Gansevoort Hotel on Park Avenue sure the hell sounds impressive. We were there on a Saturday night for a bachelorette. My expectation was upscale and exciting. There’s a lot of the pomp and pageantry of getting past lines, red velvet ropes, etc. Wear your highest heels. If you don’t have bottle service lined up, save yourself the hassle and don’t bother(at least not for a Saturday night). The space itself is very pretty and cozy. Lounge vibe in the beginning but quickly fills up for late night and all of a sudden you find yourself dancing on top of the banquette seating. No scrubs or dude hassles but you’re paying for that filtering. I found service to be subpar — what’s VIP about pouring your own drinks?

This place isTHE WORST. If I could give this place no stars I would. We went for a birthday party, our greedy table waitress tried to basically rob us. The management was even worse. I spent my entire night trying to pay for a incorrect bill and when the manager came, he offered little to no help. He gave us a card for a free bottle. Yea no thanks pal, u can keep that. The waitress over ran every credit card the banks locked up everyone in my party’s accounts. What a nightmare. Try getting a cab with no cc and no cash because your waitress ran ur card so many times for an exuberant amount of money the bank red-flagged it. To top it off, the bouncers were so busy talking to each other that they didn’t realize the table next to the DJ booth smoking so much pot, the people across the room were probably getting stoned. Last time I checked pot isn’t legal in NY. One thing after another. Place is a hole, go somewhere else.

AHoles running around pushing people and spilling their drinks, just not classy and not cool. So 2008.

Meh. The Gansevoort hotel is so nice and fancy, so I expected the Red Room to be the same. However, the food was RIDICULOUSLY overpriced and their drinks were, to put it nicely, horrible. As for the food itself, my boyfriend and I got the chips with salsa and guacamole(decent, but nothing special), the glazed chicken wings(good taste and seasoning, but the meat was a bit too fatty, so there wasn’t actually much chicken), and the Kobe beef sliders(although some edges were burnt, the parts that weren’t were extremely moist, and the grilled onion they put on it is fantastic). As for the drinks, I ordered the Emerald City(AWFUL. Don’t even try this). My boyfriend got one other specialty drink that was actually good, but only would provide 3 swallows worth of drinks, and so that was not fair with how high the price was. Basically, skip it. You can get better and cheaper wings, drinks, chips almost anywhere else. Oh, and if you’re curious about the view, the view from the pool is actually really nice, but the rest of the views are really nothing special.

Ended up at the Gansevoort Hotel after dinner and once upstairs at the bar, I heard loud hip hop and dance music coming from behind a red curtain. Naturally, I wanted to do into the more fun area which turned out to be the Red Room. It was a $ 75 minimum bar tab for myself plus one guy. Definitely tough to get guys in there without a table. If you don’t want a table, ask for a bar tab deal. Music was good, venue is smallish but it worked for our purposes. Only in NYC do you stumble on a little danceable hot spot.

Terrible top shelf drinks and over priced. I ordered a Grey Goose pineapple for my wife and it tasted terrible. The pineapple juice came out of a newly opened Dole mini can, so the vodka must have been bad or faked even though it was poured from a Grey Goose bottle. Afterwards we got a rum and coke and it made us sick as well. Worst rum I have ever tasted. For such a classy place I’m not sure why the top shelf drinks would be so terrible. Avoid at all costs.

Decided to come to this place while staying at the hotel for a night. I’ve been to lounge before for a work event, but hadn’t actually been into the red room. My expectations were that it would be similar to meatpacking experience. The guys at the door gave off a pretty exclusive vibe, more so than some places in meatpacking, so I figured this must be a pretty nice spot inside. After looking you up and down, they asked for a credit card to book a $ 70 minimum in order to get in. The wait wasn’t too long so I figured it’s a good deal since they didn’t ask for a bottle purchase. Once we got inside, the place was just ok… Definitely nothing special and there were definitely some scrubs in there. Which leads me to believe the whole hoopla at the door or is overhyped and un-necessary. They didn’t have a great drink selection at all, just the basic liquors but nothing really top shelf besides the usually vodka’s(grey goose, etc). The music was a mix of jersey club music and not very good house. This was another disappointment and I was at least hoping for international house and a slight mix of top 40. The plusses were there were a few places to sit down and it wasn’t too overly crowded when it peaked around 1:30am. This place is completely overrated in my opinion. You’re better off going to the one in meatpacking, or any other club in meatpacking for that matter. The lounge outside the Red Room is really cool, surrounding floor to ceiling windows and a terrace to hang out and drink or smoke. Better off going there than in the Red Room.

Red Room is always a good time, starts out very loungey but soon after it fills up gets pretty poppin. Good music, expensive drinks so go with a promoter.

blahh — definitely not the best spot within the hotel. got here around 1am on Friday. since the place is on one of the top floors u have to go through several elevator lines just to get here. the best word to describe the crowd — WESTCHESTER! a lot of older men and girls with carefully curled hair. he tables are small, but overall the venue is pretty standard clubby. don’t think i will be back here until they open the rooftop again

Maybe I was seeing things… but based on the age of most of the«gentlemen» there I’m assuming the only explanation is that they offer males a senior citizen discount. Enough said.

Review 450 on Friday. Hmm, never stayed here for the whole night. Always just a stop on the way. I guess when you’re with your friends you can have a fun time almost anywhere. Definitely not the place to meet the future love of your life. But it can be a fun time if you are at Hurricane/Riff raff and want to walk two feet. The venue is new and sexy and my Sergio Rossis don’t stick to the floor when I dance which is a plus. The crowd varies as the two previous reviewers stated but usually stick more with my girls/guys anyway.

Yeup, blah. ** I agree with the previous reviewer. First it’s a pain in the a to get there, the elevator then the bar and finally red room. The interior is sexy, the music is horrible, and the crowd is awkward. Again I’ve said this before park avenue is not the it spot, and this place lacks in everything. The door stamps you on the wrist like I’m stepping into a carnival, and was actually strict in a bad way. Girls at my table complained that there were no guys in this place to chat with. Again just old men with lots of money looking to get some with no game.
