Excellent sandwiches and friendly staff. Outside deck open year-round (covered in winter) with beautiful view. Dogs are welcome on the deck and are treated like guests.

What you see is what you get. Nice view as we munched on boars head sandwiches. Extruded French fries but piping hot. Yum.

Took 30 minutes to get a Reuben sandwich on a Saturday in January 2016. I cannot imagine what the wait would be if during peak tourist season in the summer. The food was not very good and the French fries tasted like they sat in the food basket the whole 30 minutes for the sandwich to be made. Very disappointed.

Not happy! Drove off the island at Kitty Hawk to come eat waterfront Manteo to find a gaggle of teens on their phones, not eating, taking up all the outdoor spaces. Ordered 3 cheeseburgers totaling $ 37 and Cldnt get fries. Asked if I wanted whole wheat, yes please. It was nasty wheat bread, not bun. She didn’t tell me. Ordered mustard on my burger, there was none. Good luck flagging down a waitress. Had to get chips because they stopped making fries for the day (don’t close for 45 mins). I asked for grilled onions, they were diced and not grilled. The lettuce was way too much and it was the light core of the lettuce head. Yuck! And on top of all that, it wasn’t even hot. The best thing on my plate was the slices pickle. Will not be coming back. Very disappointed. My husband had a Reuben which was pretty good but again, not hot. Poor Richards was a bust for us.

Id give it a five except for lines and crowded area at lunch but so worth it. Great sandwiches, burgers and prices. Well run and highly recommended.
Note, we only went because brewery was closed but it’s a new favorite in Manteo.

This is one of our favorite places to go! The food is always delicious! The view unbelievable on the back deck! I live about an hour away and most of the year I eat there once a week! It is that damn good!

Great sand which shop! Very reasonable, on the water, sit inside or out. When you can get a grilled cheese and bacon you know it’s good! Very fresh, prepared when you order. Had the grilled Italian, delicious!

Poor Richard’s is the only place that serves food after 10pm in Manteo, where things seem to close absurdly early on a Friday night in the off-season. They had a great house band, but the food was pretty so-so. Unless you find yourself driving into town after 10pm like I did, I would skip eating here. If your only goal is to consume large quantities of alcohol, then this is your place.

Locals recommended this place to us. We stopped in and waited in a line – which grew and grew after we ordered – and ordered the Sailor and one of their daily specials, with pasta salad, chips and pickles. The sandwiches were two of the best we had ever had in our entire lives.
The place was so jammed we had to go sit in the closed bar area. The employees seemed like local, down to earth people and the place felt old, historic, divey but in a clean and cute way. Food came fast, gave us an extra pickle for free, friendly staff, and did I mention they were possibly the best sandwiches we’ve ever had?
If you’re in Manteo this is where you should go for lunch.

As long as a waterfront restraunt doesn’t manage to disgust or make me sick they get a pass from me. Check.
Food is pretty good and it’s not expensive. I’ve been here twice now and I can’t really think of a bad part about them.
I love the historic building they are in and also love that you can easily boat in to eat there. I also recommend meeting new people at the tables outside if it’s busy. We did and talked to a nice couple there who were at the OBX for the first time from NY.
We’ll be back!

I was there for vacation about a year ago and I’m thinking about going back again soon. When I would tell people about my visit to Manteo I would always bring up this place. This was my Sunday spot to watch football, grab a sandwich and beer. It is a little place and can get packed but I was always given great service. Can’t wait to go back!

Found this gem of a town and heck of a sandwich shop. My husband and I split the NC BBQ sandwich and my boy had a simple ham and cheese and my girl had the chili. Everything was fresh and delicious! A perfect setting to boot!

Pros: Hole in the wall sandwich shop with super yummy sandwiches. We got the Reuben on rye and BLT on white, and they were both outstanding. Brownies were also good.
Cons: Staff was a little somber. Tight waiting and ordering space.

This little shack on the waterfront was a great lunch stop for us after exploring the NC Aquarium all morning. The sandwich selection was pretty standard but my giant club was delicious. My husband got a special which had turkey, bacon and chipotle mayo on flatbread that was also good. The little guy got a hotdog, which hit the spot.
Unfortunately we had hoped to sit on the deck, but the rain came in and we had to move inside. Still, a great stop for an easy lunch. Do expect it will take a few minutes to get your food (reason for 4 stars) as they make everything to order in a small kitchen.

Vinegar barbecue sauce is awesome with fries (it’s a NC thing)! My boyfriend ordered the pulled pork sandwich that came with this awesome sauce. I dipped my French fries in it. OMGoodness! So good! Probably won’t experience that sauce again until we go back to OBX. It’s a shame, a darn shame that no one else can make it. I will be on a quest to find it somewhere else.
This place! The views while dining were so cool. I love marinas, boats, water, and fishing poles sticking up on the ends of the boats.
One other very cool thing about this sandwich shop, was the wood board hanging on the wall when you first walk in, listing hurricanes. One particular one, Emily, is the name of my daughter. As she was coming into the world, Hurricane Emily was coming into Florida in 1993. So I named her after it.
My BLT was perfectly cooked and prepared. Reasonable too!
We look forward to going back. In the meantime, I’m recommending this place to everyone.
