Honestly, worst meal I have had! I don’t do a lot of reviews. But after tonight’s experience, I had to. We ordered 2 bloody mary’s. They were horrible! Thick and sour! She asked if we would like a beer with it. I assumed it would be a chaser, but no she brought out 2 bottles of beer. Charged us for them. Then we split a club sandwich. Can you say disgusting? They cooked the meat on the grill and melted the cheese.(Gross!) Then, we asked if instead of fries, we could get the salad bar. She said yes, my husband asked if he could also get the 1 trip salad bar, she said sure. Never told us she would charge us for 2 salad bars. And the salad bar was okay. some brown lettuce, and pretty basic, and the salad plates were tiny! The only reason I am giving 2 stars is because I lived to tell about it! I will never return.

Thought the food would be better! I was really hoping it would be since this looked like my kind of supper club. Fish seems like it was breaded elsewhere and fried– like frozen breaded fish you buy in the frozen food section at the grocery store. Just disappointing!

Very tasty, My wife and I and a friend came here for the Sunday brunch all you can eat breakfast buffet and I must say it really hit the spot with my hangover and came close to curing it. This place gets a bonus point for having Eggs Benedict on their buffet selection. I just wish it had a little more Hollandaise but it still was tasty. Everything else was tasty as well, the bacon, sausage, french toast, the scrambled eggs deluxe, the hashbrowns, the fruit was fresh, the banana cream pie, the server pretty attentive with the refill of beverages. It is about as good as it gets for a breakfast buffet. A buffet never has the same freshness for food as having you’re own meal made for you and as far as the buffet style went they did keep everything pretty fresh, as fresh as it could be for a buffet. I will definetly return. Very good. :)

Great food! The service was beyond excellent! It was really nice to be greeted as quickly as we were, and seated very quickly. The host(Owner) was very friendly and had spent time talking to us, as well as several other tables in the restaurant. My wife and I, and 3 kids, really loved it. The fish fry was really tasty and the chowder was really good as well. Thank you! We will be back!

Great food! This was my second time at this place and it delivered, the steak was the best that I have eaten I think in my life. I know I know, this could sound as if they paid me to say(they didn’t), but this place is just a gem. The whole experience from the waiter to our food was just great! I loved the non chain feel of this place, and me and my family will be back!!!

Little slow on the service but great place for dinner. Don’t expect much for ambience and you won’t be disappointed. Chicken was good, meatloaf… good, lasagna. .good. salad bar, not over the top, but good selection and fresh. Would definitely go back…6 adults, 2 kids 4 drinks…$ 109…that’s a winner!

This is a place you would take grandparents for lunch. Good home cooked food. I highly recommend the lunch buffet with fried chicken, shrimp, ribs, potatoes and salad bar. 11 – 2 mon-fri.

I have been here a few times and it is always mediocre… The food is alright nothing to get excited for. The best thing they have to offer is the wing special. Wings are pretty good. We did the groupon a couple of times and they really limit what you can get. I would come here again but only for the happy hour specials.

I used to eat at Gulden’s frequently, every couple weeks or so, when the Country View golf course was right across US61. We’d play 18 on a Summer weeknight, play some mini golf, then head to Gulden’s for dinner. Ah, the good old days… After many years, we revisited Gulden’s because its one of the few places that still features a salad bar and I was jonesin’ for meatloaf. We were pleasantly surprised with the house-made liver pâté and pickled beets on the salad bar. I think we could have made a meal on that and their fresh-baked rolls! We enjoyed our meatloaf sandwiches, which satisfied the craving, and figured we’d return at some point. That point cam sooner than later with a GroupOn offering and we were back within a few weeks! Again, we enjoyed the salad bar and we liked our entrees — Gulden’s signature BBQ ribs and prime rib — and the mashed potatoes were actual potatoes rather than reconstituted from a box. Lora delivered a great experience from a service perspective and it was hard not to get caught up in her energy. We particularly appreciate the pace of service that gave us time to savor each course before going on to the next. Are there better places to eat and hang out? Sure, but at Gulden’s you can count on generally well-prepared, straightforward, generously portioned American chow at reasonable prices. For sure we’ll be back!

We just moved to the area and found a Groupon for this place so we thought we’d give it a shot. I’m pretty easy to please, but the whole experience was«meh». We stood at the host stand for a while before anyone noticed us. After that, service was pretty good. We got an appetizer that was decent, my husband got a burger that he liked, and I got a fish sandwich that was very… fishy. Walleye is usually delicious, but here, not so much. It’s mellow, and it’s edible. I’m glad we had the groupon, because if we’d paid full price at $ 32 for an appetizer, two entrees and a couple fountain drinks, it wouldn’t have been worth it.

I hate(and hate is a strong word) to give a restaurant one star. I save that distinction for what it should be used for, and that’s only for the very worst, awful, and atrocious places who have worked so hard to earn that star. This one star goes out to Guldens. Quite possibly the worst meal I’ve ever had. Horrible Prime Rib(dry, way over cooked from an order of medium), way undercooked Walleye(were they trying to serve us fresh water sushi?), slow service(20 minutes to take our drink orders and 10 minutes to delivery them to our table? Avoid at all costs unless you like Chicken Kiev, a cup of decaf, and have all evening to eat.

Alyssa R, our daughter, and I came here for the All-You-Can-Eat Friday Night Fish Fry. We have been here at least a half dozen time before, with all of those, but one, for the Fish Fry. I called ahead, asking if there was immediate seating. I was told there was, but was asked to put in a reservation so a table could be set & ready to go for us when we arrived. I made it for 6:30. Gulden’s is easy to find, being right off of Highway 61, on the west side, just south of 694. The parking lot was slammed. Busy as all heck. Tough to find a spot. We made our way in through a back door, that enters the bar, & cross over to the host stand by the main entrance. The gentleman working the host stand didn’t need me to state my name, he knew just who we were. That was a great feeling. He grabbed a couple of menus, and said our table was ready to go. He had a highchair already set up for our daughter, but it was one of the new fangled plastic kind that doesn’t work well with our car seat. He said he had an old wood one that should work. He ran off to get it, and when he came back, it ended up working swell. Very nice guy, he was. We got settled in and took a peek into the menu. It had an insert stating Spring specials on one side, and drinks on the other. On the bottom of the drink side, it said Happy Hour 11 – 7 daily. Hey, Hey. Let’s partake in a cheep libation, why don’t we? Our server, Victoria, came by to ask about drinks. I asked about the Happy Hour listed on the insert and got denied. Victoria told us that Happy Hour only occurs in the Bar. Boo on that. Alyssa R went with a Blue Moon. I went with the High Life. The Restaurant itself is separate from the Bar. There’s no seats anywhere near it, so no one could be disturbed by any shenanigans going on in there. The décor is kinda like Grandma’s house. Classic & comfortable. Nothing flashy. Some booths. Mostly tables. Victoria comes back with our drinks, and asks if we knew what we wanted to eat. Alyssa R says, «We do. We’ll both have the Fish Fry.» Victoria says, looking at Alyssa R, «OK. Whadda’ll have?» Weird moment there. We thought she just answered that question? But, Alyssa R says again, «Fish Fry.» With it comes soup. Or the salad bar. Also, you get a choice of baked, french, hash brown, or au gratin potatoes. We both went with salad bar & au gratin potatoes. Alyssa R & I take turns at the salad bar because of our 6 month old with us. She heads up first. I go second. The salad bar is alright. A few highlights are little baby corn on the cobs, liver pâté, & sprouts. No tomatoes or cheese, though. Plenty of salad dressing choices. Plus, pasta salad, coleslaw, cottage cheese, & potato salad. When I get back & I’m into my second bite of salad, our food arrives. Bad timing, we thought. When we finish off our salad plates, I go up and get a plate of coleslaw, cottage cheese, & potato salad for us to share. Our Fish Fry came with one fillet of fish, hand breaded & cut into 3 pieces. The au gratin’s came in a nice sized silver dish heaping with cheesy goodness. A slice of lemon & a ramekin of tartar sauce came too. Also, a bread basket with two dinner rolls. The breading for the fish is different and awesome. I love it. It’s not a batter. It a cracker like breading. Almost like a fish stick breading. Kudos, Gulden’s! The potatoes are great. I get them every time. They must have a Grandma in back making these. They are straight up homemade. I urge you to get them. The side plate of coleslaw, cottage cheese, & potato salad was good. Coleslaw was crunchy and made with just the right amount of dressing. Potato salad was just like Grandma used to make(again!). Cottage cheese was creamy, lumpy, white, cold, and good. When it came time for a reorder, we went with one each. When it came out, it came with tartar sauce, but not lemon. I didn’t ask for one, though. I wanted to try this piece out naked. I couldn’t figure out if the fish was haddock or pollack. I saw a previous review stating pollack. I thought it was, but might as well ask, right? When Victoria came back, I did just that. Victoria said, «Ahhh. Mmmm. It’s Cod.» I looked at Alyssa R, and she knew just what I was thinking. I kept quiet, and didn’t bust her out, but that was the wrong answer. Cod it was not, Victoria. We got our bill after that. It was just over $ 38 bucks after tax. $ 13.49 for the AYCE Friday Night Fish Fry. This is just, and I mean just, a little high. For pollack, I mean. It’s a great Fish Fry. But for that price point, I believe haddock should be the fish of choice. Just strictly my two cents there. We will be back. No doubts. On the way out, I asked the nice gentleman at the host stand what type of fish they use. Without hesitation, he says«Alaskan Pollack». Yeah. Just what I was thinking. He thanked us for coming, and wished us well. I never got his name, but he’s been there a while now. Great, great employee Gulden’s has there.

Went again recently, and they have revamped their menu and are adding a lot of craft and local beers on tap. One highlight that I got to try were Korean BBQ pork belly sliders. They also redid the bar décor a little bit, although it’s still comfortable. The beer, dinner, and dessert menus all looked pretty promising!

Food is quality is what you would expect from a bar. Quality is ok. I had ribs, hash browns, cheese curds, nachos, bacon burger, fries and fish sticks at our table. Recommend the fish sticks! Ribs are ok but I prefer the sauce on the side and dry rub. Service was a bit slow but owner was generous and vocal. Id definitely do it again.

My favorite things about Gulden’s: 1. Plum-Cajun wings. I like the boneless. Try them. They are spicy and sweet. So good. The au gratin potatoes are yummy too. 2. Plenty of bar specials and they sometimes have extra activities going on like karaōke, bar bingo or even bag tournaments. Mike, the owner, hosts fundraisers for charity organizations too. Very cool. I even went to a wedding here and it was lovely. Great food and the banquet area was nicely decorated. The atmosphere is very friendly. If you are in the area, be sure to stop by.

This place could be the Mermaid of the east. Lots of people sitting around talking about the«glory days» while coincidentally Bruce Springsteen drones on in the background. Nothing wrong with reminiscing… Heck, I used to work down the road and this is the place all the regulars would congregate. I think they held one of my «unofficial» class reunions here. Service has always been pretty good here, with that family touch. Sunday brunch is alright. Pretty run of the mill breakfast food. — scrambled eggs –eggs Benedict — sausage, bacon — potatoes — fruit — caramel rolls And other hot and cold items. Brunch is very reasonably priced. Have only really eaten here anew times for brunch which was fine and a nice option for the area.

Worthless. Happy Hour had your typical prices($ 3 rails, $ 3 drafts) and everyone there was very nice to our larger party, but the food… well let me tell you what: You remember what Domino’s pizza used to taste like(cardboard), yeah, the lasagna reminds you just of that. The chicken was dry and tasteless(reminded me of gnawing on food like the turkey in Christmas Vacation. And since the servers are old ladies, you have to lie to them and tell them it was great. Awkward moment, when the chef came out in a backwards baseball cap and greated our party(couldn’t have been more than 20 years old) and asked how the food was. Well, I hope he gets on Unilocal soon to find out what is really going on with your food, Salad bar: WAY below par. Out of all the salad bars I’ve had in my day, I would literally(Rob Lowe’s voice — see Park’s and Recreation) rank this dead last.

Oh Gulden’s… It’s not your fault. You weren’t expecting fifteen screaming girls to come tearing into your bar at 9:30 on a quiet Saturday night. You didn’t deserve to have your largest folding table covered in piles of shredded, worthless pulltabs that were meant to be given as last-minute, lazy, bachelorette gifts to the bride. You didn’t deserve us. And I’m sorry you got us. I’m sorry if we drove away some of your regular clientele when their hearing aids started shrieking in protest. I’m sorry if the girls’ karaōke rendition of «Goodbye Earl» made you wince. I’m sorry we mocked your wall of mounted fish. Your bass and walleyes were very unique, and not something usually seen at a girls’ last hurrah. We bribed our waitress who was not exactly ecstatic to see us, and only slightly mollified by our peace offerings. Miss, I apologise that we were there, but with all due respect, we tipped you at least 30% in addition to the $ 20.00 we slipped you when we walked in the door. Your bartender was very kind in fixing up the«requisite bride shot»(I’m not writing the name here, my mom reads my reviews), and uncomfortably gave it to our happy girl. He looked like he would have been more relaxed on a bike passing out Bibles, but I will admit that he is very attractive. Nice work snagging him! So, in conclusion, Gulden’s, I promise for your sake that I will not be back: although listening to 74 yr old Tony croon«Let Me Call You Sweetheart» was truly touching. I’m sorry that some of the girls(ok, I was one of them) purred at him. Sincerely, The Uncomfortable Girl in the Red Shirt from Saturday Night

This is the sort of place that retired couples go for dinner so they can eat HUGE plates of GOOD food at reasonable prices and not be bothered by all those young«whippersnappers.» Classic American dining here, folks. Broasted chicken, steaks, huge slabs of meat and potatoes. Salad bar included with most meals. Waitresses that call you«hon,» and remember that you like a side of BBQ with your meal. It’s the real deal.
