Overall fair. The staff is whatever but the food varies from visit to visit — the omlettes especially; but I reccomend the farmers omlette. The service is kind of slow and the soda machines are watered down. They serve healthy portions though so you pay for what you get. Good for a quick brunch.

Came for a quick lunch today, and I needed it quick. Ran into a colleague of mine there, and joined him for a quick bite and he and I both told the server we’d like our checks with our food so we could pay quickly and leave. Generally, service and over all manner was slow and seemingly almost unconcerned with our situation. To top it off, I asked for a simple tuna on white. I did not ask for it toasted, nor did I want it that way. It was brought to me toasted and I didn’t have time to tell the waitress to bring it back and then get me another one. I tipped my usual rate, but almost didn’t. No real reason to come back. I’d try other restaurants in the area.

Early morning errand run with my son. No regret. Fast service. Delicious. And very nice staff. I’d go back. Had basic eggs home fries and bacon. Cooked just right. My son had bacon omelette with short stack. This kid ate everything clean off the plate.

Yummmm… Greatest blueberry silver dollar pancakes ever. The portions are generous even for hungry people, so be savvy when you order. On top of that, prices are cheap and service is fairly fast. Visited twice on a busy morning and even when the place is full, it’s not loud or feels cramped. Parking is a little tricky, because of the street parking, but other than that, absolutely fabulous low key spot.

Nice people and steve is great. Dinners are better than their breakfasts. Home fries are terrible.

Given this place a chance time and time again, and while the food is fair, the service is consistently atrocious. Have seen servers sit at tables, play with their phones and sip on their beverages before reluctantly deciding to tend to new walk-ins 10 minutes later. I’ve also seen servers carry on full conversations with each other in front of guests patiently waiting to give their orders. Overall, I think an overhaul is in order. For what I’ve seen, it’s just a few servers sinking the ship too.

Was a little surprised and disappointed they close early on Friday night. Stopped seating customers after 8:45pm

Amazing food! Best diner in Maplewood! Specials for lunch are always delicious and very nice size portions. Love the delicious lunch special salads with soup. Love love love there onion rings & and the breakfast skillets! Waitresses are always the best! Not only with service, but very friendly and easy to have a conversation with. Highly recommend you check this place out!

This is my family’s go-to diner. We go there most weekends. Our regular favorites are their cheesy eggs, pancakes, omelets, tuna melts, and french fries. Their service is great. Whenever we go to the Maple Leaf Diner we are very excited and everyone leaves happy.

It’s a nice little diner in a great neighborhood. The food is typical diner fare: not outstanding, but affordable and satisfying. They keep the coffee coming, which is a plus. Everyone is very pleasant and helpful and really kid-friendly.

Came here for lunch, mediocre at best. Burger temp was waaaay off. Bun was soaked in grease. Fries were blah. Waitress forgot something, but was on point with the refills.

Average and forgettable but worth trying once. There’s nothing particularly memorable.

What I like the most about Maple Leaf is how friendly, attentive and efficient the staff is. The refills are quick, the check is never wrong, they ask if things are fine without being intrusive, and they truly do their best to contain the children running around. I give them massive props for that alone. Now to the ambience. This is a no frills kind of establishment, the décor has been outdated for years, but that becomes irrelevant given the affordable prices and the home-made quality of their menu. I never had a problem with their food, in fact, their soup specials are delicious and healthy. Most of the times I find myself not knowing what to order given how varied their menu is.

Just went here for the first time today. Other reviewers are right about the little kids – lots of them! – but we have a two-year old ourselves so that’s a plus for us. I’m pretty picky about breakfast omelettes and of the 5 – 6 diners I’ve been to in NJ so far, I thought this was the best one so far. Also I like that the home fries have onions sautéed in with them, just like grandma used to make them. Wife got the oatmeal, which she said was good, but hey, how hard is oatmeal? Service was prompt but a bit perfunctory, perhaps because it was busy. We got there around 11:30 and were surprised there was no wait, but by the time we left at 12:15, 10 – 12 people were waiting for tables. The décor was also nice. Some might say that the 70’s shabby look common in other diners is part of the appeal, but this place with its more updated, cleaner look was a relief to me. All in all a very good experience and I think this may become our go-to diner.
