I think of Robert’s as a bar with food more than a restaurant. It is small but has a long bar and quite a few tables for a small place. The wings are great and so are the ribs and in the summer they usually have blue claw crabs which not too many bars in the area offer. You can get a nice mixed drink in a pint glass pretty cheap and they have winter food specials too. I like that it is a family owned business. Don’t miss the polar bear swim on New Year’s Day, they clear out all the stools, chairs and tables and the fire department blocks off the street so you can get a little drunk then walk down and jump in the ocean.

I’ve eaten here twice and the food is ok but not great. They won’t serve you a glass of water. They will sell you a bottle of water.

not sure what happened to this place, but if they continue to let waitresses dictate policy and accept their rude«attitude» towards customers aa acceptable behavior, their chances of surviving another 40 years is slim.

Mediocre bar food, with maybe 6 or 7 tables at the most. They also claim to not serve tap water you can only buy bottled which I would guess violates some statute or local code. Making you buy bottled water and average bar food is enough to keep me away for good. Also they have no beers on tap, which is vexing.

The food here isn’t bad, especially the wings. Just a nice, cozy spot to have a beer, wings and sandwiches. My issue with Robert’s Place is their staff’s expectation of a 20 percent tip for takeout orders. Back in July 2014, I picked up an order. The waitress handed me the bag of food and I handed her the money. She said thank you, have a good night then walked away. The change was nearly 20 percent. I was stunned and foolishly walked out without saying anything. Just last week, I picked up another order. The bill was $ 16.00, I gave $ 20.00. She asked if I needed change. When I said yes, the waitress gave me a nasty look and put the change on the table, short $ 1.00. The servers here must wear brass underwear. If the new thing is tipping for take out, that’s fine; but, don’t assume you get one by asking if I need change… and don’t assume its going to be 20%. So, to avoid the b.s. I will only eat in at Robert’s place. I’ll get take out elsewhere.

If I could give this place a 0 out of 5 I would. I turned 25 this past weekend and after midnight a group of 8 of us went out for wings and a few drinks to celebrate. They had tables of 6 already set up so we grabbed 2 chairs from the table behind us with only 4 people and and pulled them around. Our waitress came over and took our drinks order and when she returned with our drinks, she informed us that all of a sudden we couldn’t pull those chairs up because they were blocking too much of the walkway. This was bullshit because how many people are going to be walking around this place at 1 in the morning… honestly. So there was a table behind the group of 4 and we moved up there. Half of us sat at the bar and the other half sat down at the table. We ordered and enjoyed some drinks and wings which were decent. We asked for waters all around and the waitress tried telling us that they only serve bottled water which was $ 2 per. Um, I’m sorry, everyone has tap water and I’m pretty sure you have to give it if asked at a restaurant. After back and forth, we finally got tap water. At one point a girl walked into the bar with a bridesmaids dress on(I assume she just came from a wedding). One of the couples we were with just recently got married and that was actually the same bridesmaid dress they had in their wedding. A comment was made that it was the same dress and the subject was dropped. A few minutes later the girl in the dress comes over and starts bitching at us because we’re talking shit on her, single handily making a scene. Ridiculous. The girl had been drinking all night, you could smell it on her breath. Some words were exchanged, we tried explaining we weren’t talking bad about her but she wasn’t comprehending. A few minutes later, the bartender and bouncer were asking us to leave because they«don’t need people like you in our bar». Apparently the girl was an off duty waitress that worked there. It was absurd. The food was half decent but the service and waitstaff was horrid. Just because it’s an after midnight crowd doesn’t mean you can’t treat them with respect… especially when there is absolutely no means to kick them out.

When you ask for a drink they will bring you a good drink. Not a skimpy little thing like most establishments. Most are too afraid to get sued or something. Anyway, Order the wings. Mild, medium and hot. Even the mild is hot. So I would suggest that unless you want you lips all swollen order mild. Bring cash. No credit cards excepted.

i’ve been to almost every US state and have frequented many bars. Roberts is by far my favorite establishment in the country. As old school as it gets. As laid back as it gets. Bottled beer only. Oh — and probably the best wings you’ll ever eat.

Robert’s Place is as real as it gets! The wings are the best in the world. Seriously, the world. The buffalo shrimp are awesome too. When stone crab claws are in season, do yourself a favor and get 2 orders. They are awesome. They have traditional«blue claw» crabs that are great, but the key is to order them«garlic style.» They will crack them open perfectly for you, and toss them in a sautee pan of like a garlic’y scampi sauce. Its godly… If you are ever on the island you have to stop by this place, any time of year. The summer is awesome though. It is a raging party every single night. It is most certainly a «local» bar, but the locals here super friendly. When you step in the door, you get an overwhelming sense of family and belonging. I get a warm feeling every time i go there. I was a lifeguard on the beach in Margate for 7 years and this was my spot. Hitting Roberts for some grub and drinks before the 4th of July fireworks were some of the best nights ever

Anytime That I am on the south jersey coast I will go out of my way to eat at Robert’s Place. They have the best and freshest selection of seafood that I have ever had, and the wings… omg the wings. Some of the best food I have ever had. The only issue I see here is the lack on seating… but hey, I think it’s worth the wait. And for a upper class shore town like Margate this little dive really stands out. I can eat and drink and the price is right! Over all, I just love this place and can’t wait to get back again!

Great local spot for drinks and bar snacks. Super casual atmosphere. .all food served on cafeteria style trays. Tasty seafood treats include steamers, u-peel shrimp and stone crabs. Great wings… leave pizza to the pizza joints… otherwise solid menu.

Mediocre dive bar. Food ok. Staff thinks they’re god’s gift to the service industry. The only reason this bar does well is because it’s surrounded by crappy restaurants and bars in South Jersey. Nothing to write home about.

Stumbled in here on a recommendation of a friend that has a beach house in the area. We came for the wings and were NOT disappointed! They were the perfect doneness and flavor was great!

This is one of the best bars I have been to. Its small(or intimate depending on how generous you are), the tables are smooshed together and one even has a pole that prevents you from seeing people at your table. There are TV’s everywhere and the bartenders and waitstaff will take care of you like family. Its not for everyone and if you are looking to go clubbing and«be seen» then go to the other side of Margate… If you are looking for a cold beer and some damn good bar food, welcome home. «The Good« –Beer… really, its cold and they have the usual suspects. –The food is great. The wings are fantastic, Buffalo Shrimp are real jumbo shrimp in the same hot sauce, the BBQ Pork wings are a giant piece of Rib goodness. The burgers are the best on the island and they have fresh seafood specials in season. Even the pizza is good. Again, its bar food, so if you are looking for fine dining this is not the place for you. — Did I mention the wings? –The attitude — The bar itself is not trying to be something that it is not. It’s a local bar with room for more. The people who feel out of place, may be just that. But if you go in looking to enjoy your night you will do just that. –Jukebox — The digital ones that can access the jukebox of the internets. –Cafeteria trays pose as plates… awesome. –The waitstaff are cuteys. –The Flyers poster that features the Stanley Cup team from the 70s. «The Meh» –The catch 22 wish is that it is too small and could be a little bigger, and if you do not like the occasional bump/elbow/loud laugh/sneeze from perfect strangers then you may want to find another place. The reason that this is not under the bad category is that if it were bigger it would not be Robert’s. –Street parking and the lot around the corner could fill up fast, but unless someone did the math and calculated the number of patrons vs. the number of spots you should be good. –Location — If you are going bar hopping this place could not be further away. If you are going there as the destination you are good to go. –The BBQ is unique and may not be for everyone, if you want BBQ go to Kansas City. I would swear that there is either liquid smoke or something that has a tang but the mystery is better than knowing. — If you have a small bladder or do not feel like walking through the masses after every two beers sit near the back, that is where the restrooms are. «The Bad» –They have a cigarette machine in the back for the smokers but thankfully its nonsmoking. $ 30.00 in quarters can take some time for the people who still smoke… –Cash only — I understand the why, but still its 2010, I think credit cards are going to catch on. –The occasional group of people that come up to your table and check to see how far along you are in the meal and start having a conversation about which table will be available first… here’s an idea, take your rear end to the bar and let people eat in peace. Refer back to small, intimate place. –Bottled water only(for cash) — again I get the why, tables eating dinner asking for a pitcher of water… to camp out for three hours… Really? Really?!?

I recently discovered this place this summer. What a find! The drink prices are very reasonable, and the food and service is excellent. It’s a local little bar, with lots of frienfly regulars. It’s great in the off season as well. Went there last weekend and had a whole lobster for $ 17.00 and it was excellent. This is definetly one of my favorite places in Margate.

For a Small bar, the food is pretty good and reasonably priced. Lips had the Steak. He thought it was, «banging.» for 15 bucks you can’t beat it. I had the steamers and Pizza. Steamers were quite good better than Steve and Cookies which we paid double for just a week earlier in Margate. The Pizza was not on the level of a pizzeria but for a bar pizza it was pretty good. No kids are allowed in the place which is a big plus.

Robert’s is quite a place. For years my friends would go here and drink. I, for one reason or another, just never had the chance to check it out until just a few years ago. I will go no place else for wings! I’ve heard nothing but good things about the rest of the fare. The specials always look good but wings are the target if we make the trip here. First things first, it’s small. EXTREMELYSMALL. So, if you are planning on going in the summer, be prepared. It’s very close quarters. We don’t even try it from mid-June through August. My wife typically gets the steamers as an app and is always pleased. They bring the food out on school cafeteria trays which is somewhat unique. The wings are always done perfectly, not breaded(of course). I get the hottest sauce, my wife the mild. I don’t find it particularly hot, but regardless it’s VERY good. I can’t recall the prices, but they are extremely cheap. The staff is always incredibly friendly, especially the tall people behind the bar. All in all this is THE«dive» bar to check out if you are on Absecon Island.

I’ll be biased too, who cares. I lived in Margate for a spell and would stop in here for a beers and a ribeye. Top notch. Both the beer and steak. Better than the rip off at Bobby Flay any day. Lots of interesting/simple but excellent menu options. Almost exclusively a local crowd who can be friendly if they have to. Run by a local family with a long history in the area. It’s good stuff.

I agree with Daniels review of Roberts. I recommend getting the buffalo shrimp which are great and the pizza is good as well. The wings are tasty and they serve them on plastic cafeteria trays which is interesting. It gets a mix of locals and cougars. Some young people come occasionally.
