Is it the best bbq ever? No but it’s pretty good. Decent choice in sauces. Decent salad bar. Decent waitresses. I hate the country music they play though.

When you just need the smoked taste of Beef Brisket and Smoked Turkey, Sonny’s BBQ is my go to restaurant! I done in and take out. I thoroughly enjoy it each and every time!

I know I’ve eaten here before, but failed to review my experience on Unilocal. At that time, I probably would have rated it 3, or maybe 4 stars. However, this time I just made a takeout order of a bowl of Brunswick stew which I couldn’t remember whether I liked it here, or at Williamson Brothers(must’ve been Williamson Bros). I can just describe it as a sort of spicy, salty tomato bisque with a little beef and beans thrown in.

Sad to say but this Sonnys is garbage and I wouldn’t waste my breath coming here. I worked for sonnys for 4 years so I know what to expect. My problem wasn’t with the server but it was with the food. Being a Sonnys BBQ cook is extremely easy and takes hardly any thought at all so it can be quite irritating when your food comes out wrong. I simply ordered a CB with sweet sauce, bacon and cheddar cheese. Idk who is training these cooks but they obviously don’t know what they are doing. The CB should have already been pre cooked and stayed warm by putting it in the Cvap. All they had to do was take the CB, put it on the grill, coat it with sweet sauce, throw bacon on it and then let the cheese melt on top. When it came to the table it was just a CB with sweet sauce on one side only. The cheese came separate and I was told that they don’t serve bacon. What kind of BBQ restaurant doesn’t have bacon… I took a bite and the CB was cold, this location isn’t busy so I don’t know why they constantly mess orders up.

I wanted to refresh my previous review from 10/13/2013 where I was very dissatisfied with basically everything inside the four walls of the Restaurant. I went back about 6 weeks ago on a Sunday morning at opening and greeted and taken to be seated. Immediately I was approached by the server, LINDA, a very kind and attentive server. I wasn’t exactly sure of what I wanted to lunch, I knew it was ribs but they have three choices of ribs. Linda explained the difference of each rib and I ordered the one that I thought that I was what I wanted. Linda brought 1 from what would have been my second choice. I had ordered the AYCE so I stayed with my original choice based on LINDA’s suggestion and I was happy. If this Sonnys had more servers like LINDA, I am telling you, their business would grow tremendously, she is so awesome. With that being said, I returned a couple weeks later, unfortunately LINDA was leaving for the day, her shift was over and I had to use another server and I had someone that appeared that she didn’t want to be there for that Saturday afternoon shift. I am not one to give up so I returned a week later and was lucky, LINDA was there and I was sat in her section and I cannot tell you the difference in service, day and night is all I can say. She kept an eye on my, and made sure I was taken care of, my tea never ran out and AYCE meal was fantastic. Whoever the HR person is, or who ever does the hiring, you need to please give a kudos to LINDA for taking care of her customers and her area of the restaurant and try to model the next new hire after her and what she does. I will be back this weekend and hope Linda is there and I can get into her service area. S

Moving to Atlanta from Orlando I’ve been mostly disappointed by the quality of the BBQ here compared to there(e.g. 4Rivers, Bubbalou’s). I find myself going to Sonny’s more and more often when I’m after BBQ because it’s consistently good, even if it’s not the best I’ve had. I have always loved their regular«mild» sauce, and these days I mix it with their«Sizzlin Sweet» sauce and it’s even better. My favorite is the chicken, either on the bone or pulled if you’re in a lazy mood.

They have promised us a free meal 3 or 4 times now. They tell us they are going to write our name down and they never do. We get a sliced pork sandwich and everytime the meat is slimy. We have thrown it away twice. I came in to eat this time. Was going to get an all you can eat because they usually do a good job in person and pick up my free sandwich for my mother. The waitress who was standing up front was short with me and rude and pointed to a guy manager, Abel or something, and said I need to speak to him, and then he is short with me and tells me he doesn’t see my mom’s name. Shocker… not. It’s been like the past 3 times. I eat here once a week and love the waitress from bulgaria. I will NEVER be back to this establishment. No wonder so many of these restaurants have closed down. There is better BBQ around.

Been going here for years and have never been disappointed! Sliced pork is my fav and the Sweet BBQ sauce is the best BBQ sauce I’ve ever had! The prices are reasonable and you get so much food.

Excellent experience! We travel from the Midwest where SBBQ does not exist. We are always on the hunt for Sonnys when we travel because it is our favorite restaurant. We sure wish they’d head west… Our first experience this trip was here and the food was exquisite and truly delicious. The waitress was not friendly but was attentive. 12÷26÷15.

Hubby and I rolled up on this location after thinking that ALL of them had closed. I was excited to get there smoked chicken they even have smoked wings now so it was on. Lol they did NOT let us down. Good service good food BUT we ordered peach cobbler to go $ 4 for 3SPOONSFULL! As we were leaving we viewed the salad/something all you can eat bar and it didn’t look inviting.

On my road trip from Memphis to Atlanta, my friend had talked about how she and her friends loved this BBQ place called Sonny’s that used to be in Mississppi but had closed over a weekend, devastating them all. As we drove into Marietta, heading to the Marietta Diner, we saw it, the giant Sonny’s BBQ sign. I pointed and confirmed that was the place she meant. YES. After hearing her rapturous description of their wings, this was a definite must-try during my time in Atlanta. Chicken wings. One of my many weaknesses, especially when they’re this tasty. My friend loves their Sizzlin’ Sweet(sweet and spicy) and it was delicious but my favourite was their new(ish) Smokin’. A little bit sweet, a little bit smoky but neither over-powering. Just this delicious melding of both. Plus crinkle fries. How can anyone turn down crinkle-cut fries?! It just can’t be done. Also, I can’t say enough about the woman who took our order. We went on Hallowe’en and she was so friendly and sweet. She even combo’d my friend’s meal so that she got a better deal. I wish I could remember her name but she was costumed as the 80s and helped make our Sonny’s dinner into fantastic meal. (And now that I’ve seen the pictures of their ribs, another trip to Marietta has to happen and not only to see friends.)

I was wondering why all the Sonny’s in Georgia were closing. Now I may know why. I use to eat here once a week, 18 years ago. The BBQ was OK but the price reflected that. A sandwich, fries. slaw and a drink use to be around $ 6.00. Now around $ 9.00. The BBQ Turkey I had today was good and smokey. The slaw was way too sweet. The beans were way beyond sweet.(80%Molasses, 10%Sugar and 10% beans.) The Tea was good. The sauces, Meh. So, for $ 12.45 plus tip puts Sonny’s in direct competition with every other Authentic BBQ joint in town. And they lose. Sorry Sonny, now I understand.

Traveled all across the country and may have found my favorite competition style ribs. What does that mean? They won some competition with these ribs and added them to the menu. They have other types of ribs. I’ll be back to try those next. Awesome smoke ring, sweet sauce. But it had balance. That’s huge. Most of the time the sauce is waaaaay too sweet and be ribs aren’t smoky enough. These were amazing! Hunter worked hard and helped decide on what to get. Thanks!

Good food. I used to go all the time, then stopped for about 2yrs after a brisket incident. Glad to come back and they have some of the best brisket around. Sweet tea is great and love the fries. Kids eat free on Tues 4−8pm. Sauces are good and I remember the poor is good too(stopped eating pork almost 4yrs ago). Service is fast and usually very friendly.

Gooooood food. The chicken melts in your mouth… it’s so amazing. Best fries in Atlanta, in my opinion. Large, crinkle cut, tender on the inside and crunchy on the outside. The brisket is also very good. Tender, flavorful, really good smoked flavor.

Went here with some coworkers for lunch before we got on road to Hinesville :(. I tried the Sweet Carolina bbq and for the price it was pretty good. I ended up adding some sweet sizzling sauce and it made it that much more good. I kept it simple and had fries as my side. If you’re looking for some good bbq and not too expensive, this is the place! Great service and place was clean.

Sonny’s has winning sauces!!! I must have passed this place a million times or more, I decided to stop by while picking my niece up from her Summer part time job(she actually wanted to work while up here on vacation-teens!!!), so I went through the drive-thru after seeing they offered smoked sausages. I went ahead and pulled up to the drive thru window to see the smoke sausage options. I spoke with Lucy and she showed me a menu, I also let her know that I was a first time customer and welcomed any suggestions. I decided on the sausage & ribs which came with 2 side Items and a choice of bread. Lucy threw in a beverage since it was my first visit… she highly recommended the chicken but I was really feeling the ribs. I ordered macaroni and cheese and green beans as my side item even though I was given macaroni and cheese and baked beans instead. Everything was really good, the ribs were so tender, they slid right off the bone. The smoke sausage was extremely good and paired great with the texas toast. Lucy allowed me to try three different sauces, smokin, sweet & sizzlin sweet… All very yummy, but I was won over by the sweet. Lucy was really nice, the food was great and I will definitely be back to try the chicken… I promised Lucy!
