What an amazing place to eat! My wife and I just barely got married and decided to have some breakfast here, while we were outside finishing our meals the owner that was hard at work busting tables found out about our wedding from the day before, without telling us he came out with a bottle of champagne with glasses for the whole party no charge at all! The owner went above and beyond and the food was simply amazing, thank you very much and I recommend anyone who is thinking about breakfast or even just coffee. Take a walk or bike ride here and I promise you won’t regret it!

I really want to give Joni’s more stars considering my husband and I come here almost every weekend for brunch… It’s close to our apartment so it’s convenient. I order the same thing just about every time and probably more than half the time there is something wrong with it — missing ingredients, wrong side, wrong toast, etc. but the food is good overall and, while in a strip mall, the patio is a quiet spot in an otherwise bustling area.

I have lived in the Marina for 4 years but have never been to this place or even noticed… which is funny cuz I always go to Noah’s Bagels right next door. One day my husband was picking up breakfast for us at Noah’s and mentioned he saw this place and suggested we try it. So today we went. There was a fast-moving line for breakfast and I barely got to look at the menu. Decided to get the granola special, which comes with a bowl of granola, raisins, bananas and strawberries + eggs + slice of whole grain toast. Husband got the corned beef special, which came with toast and potatoes. The food was okay… nothing special. They ran out of spoons so I ate my granola with a fork until they restocked halfway through. Corned beef was obviously from a can, but it still tasted decent(because canned corned beef is actually delish, right?). Eggs weren’t fluffy and were rather flavorless and the potatoes were mushy — but some ppl prefer them like that so I understand. I like them a bit crispy. What redeemed this whole meal was the coffee. Gotta say, the coffee is superb. So if anything, I will be back for the coffee. Iced coffee looked good, too… can’t wait to try that next time. Overall, 5 stars for the coffee. 3 stars for the food… so average 4 stars.

Love me Joni’s whenever I’m visiting MDR. The coffee they roast — their own label for purchase — is brewed fresh per cup, in glass no less. I’m a big fan of the rice eggs ground turkey tomato bowl, but the omelets are awesome too.

0 — TERRIBLE! I’ve been a local regular customer for 2 years now. ONLY kept going back honestly cause it was close by. The manager is the rudest, most unprofessional, impersonal, disrespectful and cold service personnel I’ve ever experienced literally. My self and other regulars have often discusses how awful the attitude, treatment and service is BAD! Few of us ONLY went back to the place because we are local & we like to see each other there to connect, plus it’s close by, so we kept giving it a chance. BUT, it’s ALWAYS a disappointment! I kept saying, never again… And many of us already often choose other local cafes instead, to avoid this BADSERVICE, POURHOSPITALITY&NEGATIVEATTITUDES. PLUS, IT’s VERYOVERPRICED, ANDTHECUSTOMERSERVICEISAWFUL!!! Decent breakfast food but the experience just isn’t worth it because of the completely confusing structure of the restaurant. You come through the front door and join a tight, awkward knot of people lined up at a little window to give an order to the kitchen staff. Then you walk down an aisle to the cash register to pay for it. Then you get yourself some silverware and condiments and find yourself a table. Do not do these things out of order, lest you get barked at by the guy behind the register. I have never been inside Joni’s where somebody hasn’t been confused by this ritual, nor when there hasn’t been a disorganized cluster at the kitchen window. I’d come by here more often if it weren’t for this really weird setup, reminiscent of making a withdrawal from the Bank of Warsaw, circa 1977.

I have 10 minutes to be at work. I have five minutes to get my coffee and yogurt + fruit+ granola. I walk up, place my order, and am stoked there’s no one in line ahead of me. It takes them 20 minutes to put my order together– and I’m late to work. So not stoked. This joint is overpriced and not worth it. If I’m going to be priced gouged + deal with slow counter service I rather eat somewhere with the highest quality ingredients like at Gjusta.

My husband and I have given this place A LOT of chances, but after our last visit, we will never ever be going back. We live within walking distance to Joni’s, and have for the past 7 years or so. We kept trying Joni’s because it was easy, but always left disappointed with our order and feeling that it was quite over priced for what we were getting. I mean, a sign on the door says that if you want ‘organic eggs’ you have to add $ 3 to your already expensive breakfast meal there. We kept vowing not to return, but it was just so close and always had a table. Finally one day I found a dish that was reasonably priced and tasted good… The Big Belgian Waffle with Fruit. I liked it so much we started going to Joni’s a lot more… I was even getting the waffle to go occasionally. I went out of town for a while for work, and we got busy so we hadn’t gone to Joni’s in a while, and decided to go this past weekend, and I’m still traumatized from that visit :( My husband ordered a Lox Sandwich, and I of course got my waffle with fruit. When the food arrived, I immediately noticed that the smell of fish from my husband’s lox sandwich was VERY strong. Let me preface this by saying that I HATEFISH. HATESEAFOOD. HATE. Can’t stand the smell, the taste, the texture… all of it. I HATEIT. So, I start to eat my waffle and take a bite or 2, but the smell of fish is getting in my nose and down my throat, and I am having a super hard time eating my food, let alone, staying at the table. I was also worried that my husband was eating a sandwich that was going to get him sick! He felt really bad, as I started to hold my nose and turn more and more green, to the point that he basically shoved the entire sandwich down his throat to get it away from the table. He got up and took his plate back up as well, just to get the smell away because I couldn’t even touch my food at that point. When he got back to the table, I started to try and eat again, but everything I put in my mouth tasted like that awful pungent fish smell to me. I know I hate fish, but I’ve never had a fish smell get so bad that it permeated my taste buds and sense of smell. I didn’t know what to do at that point, so my husband thought that we should get the waffle wrapped up so I could try and eat it at home once I got the smell out of my system. Right before we decided to do that, my husband wanted to taste my food to make sure it was alright. He tasted a strawberry and a banana and said they were fine. Then he took a bite of the waffle. His reaction was immediate… ITWASMYWAFFLETHATSMELLEDANDTASTEDLIKEFISH!!! He took one more bite to make sure, and then he was 100% sure that it was indeed my waffle. They gave me a fish waffle! I don’t know what the frick happened, or what they didn’t clean, but it was the most disgusting nauseating experience I’ve ever had in my life, and no one behind the counter seemed to understand what I was trying to tell them, and since you pay before you get your food, I just left so I wouldn’t vomit on their floor. I don’t even know what else to say about the experience besides I’m still nauseated and telling every single person I know about my fish waffle and where it came from and to stay away.

I’ve been here a few times and seems to be pretty faithful. You order soon as you walk in and pay at the register. They give you a #, seat yourself and wait for your food. If you order coffee be sure to wait for it so you can add your cream and sugar at the counter behind you. The food is pretty good and even though it’s a small place we’ve always found a table either inside or outside with no problem. This is our go to spot if we are in the marina.

Very good little breakfast spot that offers a variety of items. It’s located in a little shopping plaza so you should be able to find parking in the plaza for free. If not, there is always metered parking available right outside. Tihs place gets packed on the weekends, so you may have to wait a little to grab a table. Here, you’ll order and then seat yourself. They have a good amount of tables. They have a pretty large menu and prices are roughly in the $ 10 range. They offer eggs, omelettes, pancakes, bagels, waffles, and cereal for breakfast. They also offer salads, sandwiches, burgers, smoothies. We went for breakfast — I had a lox bagel, nothing super impressive, but it was good. My husband ordered the omelette and it was delicious. Bottom line is, it’s reasonably priced and the food is solid.

Whenever I go back to LA, where I lived in the 90s, I am always struck by how much certain things have stayed the same. LA coffee culture seems stuck in the Friends era. I was surprised that this was a roastery. We may have had a couple of off visits, but the coffee tastes like regular LA coffee house coffee, as it has tasted for the past 20 years. Morning pastries are fine, but also not especially artisinal or different from the cold, oversized muffins and scones you can find in any LA coffee house.

I wanted it to be good. Week day morning breakfast: The service was quirky – as billed. The prices were in line with the Marina. The food was simply not good. The eggs were cooked as ordered, but greasy. The hash browns were limp and cool. The bacon was cold and burned beyond taste and recognition. The coffee was alright, but nothing to write home about. The location and view were great. The patrons were the best part. Many were past retirement age and seemed to know each other well.

This place is in the middle of marina del rey/venice. It’s perfectly charming and quirky. I’m surprised by the negative reviews– they mostly mention the price. Well folks, that’s the price of beach life. It’s just a fact. Joni’s deserves more credit. They deliver great homemade style good BYTHEBEACH. Next to/on multi million dollar property. The prices are not terrible– they are competitive. If you’re on a budget, just plan ahead and grab food before centinelia ave. However, if you would like to experience having your meal with the cool ocean breeze and warm California sun touching your skin– well then this is your place. My meal was about $ 17 for egg plate and iced latte, about average for LAIMO. I had the Marina Athletic Club plate– egg whites, fruit, and pancakes. The pancakes are delicious! They are flourless and taste great without butter or syrups. My latte was served first and food was served promptly afterward. Many menu options and modifications. In conclusion, awesomeness.

Went to Joni’s for brunch on a Sunday afternoon. We live across the street and always see people outside, figured why not try it. The only good part of the meal was the waffle and them giving my dog a treat. The strawberries were frozen and mushy, and the bananas where brown. My girlfriend ordered the omelet, sorry the WORST omelet I have ever seen. My dog would not even eat it. Cheese was not melted, onion overload, massive pepper slices, someone needs to learn how to cook. Would not go back again. Ooo yea and they do not clean all the pigeon poop outside where you sit.

I used to live across the street form Joni’s and never really went. Then about 2 months before I moved I couldn’t stop going in for coffee. I’ve never eaten there but people do in droves on the weekend. I suspect they have some fresh and more healthy options and attracts that beach body crowd. The coffee is made fresh, roasted in house and is single serving brewed. Yes, you wait for them to brew a cup just for you in about 30 seconds. No(free) refills. It is an amazingly fresh, deeply flavorful cup of jo. Relaxed atmospher, chillin read your Sunday paper place. I never knew what I was missing and then it(I) was gone. Was driving around thinking about where to get a good cup of coffeee last week and remembered Joni’s, glad I did. A nice trip down memory lane, no cream no sugar.

My bf’s parents used to come here years ago and wanted to see if the coffee is as good as they remembered. Fortunately, the answer is yes! There is plenty of parking out front, so we didn’t have to scout for street parking. I ordered the vanilla latte, which was delicious and made perfectly with foam on the top! My bf also enjoyed his brewed coffee. We didn’t have anything to eat, but I will definitely be back for more coffee and maybe even some breakfast.

This is where the retired folks come hang out. I swear everyone there was over 70. The food was overpriced and mediocre. The half oatmeal is more than enough. It was served cold and runny with way too much milk. Pancakes were gummy and flat. Eggs dry and cold. Ordering system is weird. You order from one person. Pay with another person. I do appreciate they had some healthy options. I opted for the South Beach pancakes and they were tasty. Bland if you’re not used to eating healthy. Lots of seating outside. The birds and dogs can be bothersome. If you’re looking for something fresh with a cool ambiance don’t come here. This is a basic diner no frills. Go to 26 Beach if you want something hip and innovative!

The outside has changed but Joni’s(which I think had a different name in the late 1980s) is as good as ever. I stopped by after dropping someone at LAX and driving home through the Marina(the 405 a parking lot northbound at that hour) for some coffee. Major nostalgia rush. I got a huevos rancheros to go and it was terrific. It was clearly full of locals and regulars, most over 50, which always makes me happy in an LA increasingly populated by hipsters. Lots of old memorabilia including a kitschy Elvis lamp and very old roasting contraption. The classical music makes this a nice spot to relax and read the paper(and in this crowd you might actually see someone reading the Sunday New York Times or Wall Street Journal). Good food. Good vibes.

Trendy place in the Marina. First, order at the counter inside, pay at another station, be sure to get your utensils located on another counter. You’re given a number and a server brings your food. They have indoor and outdoor eating areas. There’s metered street parking and a small parking lot. Now for the food. I wanted the corned beef hash but I found out it wasn’t homemade so I ordered the banana pancakes, instead. The sliced banana is mixed into the batter which I like. They serve two large size pancakes for $ 8.99 which was more than filling. The pancakes were cooked perfectly, not gummy(under cooked) or dry(overcooked). The banana had the perfect sweetness that I didn’t need syrup. The pancake batter itself tasted like a premix, but it was good not cakey.
