A’s Cutie Pop Shop & Bakery

A’s Cutie Pop Shop and Bakery is a great place to go for a sweet treat or to have a special cake made. I love going and taking my son for one of their giant cookies or for one of their decadent cupcakes. They have huge rice krispy treats, gourmet loaded brownies, and many other confections. They’re a little pricey but still yummy!

I really wanted to like this place. The service is amazing and everything looks great. The Marion mall is struggling and this is a bright spot among the tumbleweeds. So we were in town over the weekend and I decided to give them a try. We went with 6 cupcakes and one of the huge cookies so that we could really get a feel for the products.

The lone bright spots were the Oreo & Apple cupcakes and the delicious Snickerdoodle cookie. The major issues I had were with the texture of their chocolate cakes, the texture of their marshmallow topping, and the icing on the Reese’s & maple bacon cupcakes.
The chocolate cakes are the texture of a piece of bread. They don’t feel or taste like cake! Too sponge-​like. But my biggest issue was the maple bacon cupcake. If you read my review of Revolution Doughnuts in Atlanta, you’ll know that my absolute favorite donut is the maple bacon. I was so excited when I saw it on the menu. I took one bite and spit it out, and had to search for something else to eat to stop my stomach from turning. I don’t know what was wrong, but it tasted rancid.
Again, I wanted to like this place and I’ll absolutely be back to grab a cookie, and to try the brownies. But unless something major changes with the chocolate cake recipe and the maple bacon cupcake is completely reconsidered, I’m afraid they won’t weather the storm that has taken out many of the other shops in this mall.
