I’ve been here several times, but I don’t think I’ll go back. Not once have I ever gotten a smile or hello from the servers. They’re almost surly. I typically feel unwelcome. I think they have a regular clientele so I must be doing something wrong. I said I’ve been there several times so it must be the food, right? Well, I’ve only had breakfast there and it’s nothing to write home about. Typical greasy spoon stuff. I can’t comment on lunch or dinner items. Never tried them. So, surliness coupled with unremarkable food. Nope. I’m done with this place.

I had the eggs benedict for 3 days straight and was delicious. Although the eggs were actually poached, they were a little over cooked consistently.

Ordered the pancake sandwich(I think that’s what it’s called) and it was good! Pancakes tasted like pancakes, I got my bacon crispy and it turned out perfect to me, the eggs were eggy, and I got hashbrowns on the side and they definitely tasted like good ol hashbrowns! Service was also good everyone was friendly! Definitely will be returning especially since it’s close to home!

I ordered the small one-egg breakfast. It is only $ 4.95! Comes with country potatoes and a biscuit with gravy! Yum.

Now I never give a bad review especially knowing my followers and Elite status holds value but this place is shocking! We tried calling in a to go order and there was no answer. So we decided to order upon arrival. Bad idea! No one greeted my husband when he arrived. The lady behind the counter steadily made drink orders and ignored him. Once he made himself acknowledged, he asked if he can place a to go order. The lady went on to say, only waitress can take your order and they’re all busy. Unbelievable! What kind of professional establishment during business hours refuses service simply because they’re busy. So much for Sunday morning service with a smile!

Fairly basic place that used to be a Winks(I am told) «long ago»…good for breakfast, lunch seems to be mostly sandwiches, and though dinner is advertised on the sign outside I saw no evidence of dinner items. The service is friendly, they play 50’s music, prices and food are decent, though they could use a bit more decoration to make the place look more attractive. But overall it’s fine for an omelette and the country potatoes are pretty darn tasty.

Diner food. It looked like they have alot of regulars. Decent prices. We had omlettes. They were pretty good. I would have ordered eggs benedict like I always do, but when I sampled their hollandaise sauce(like I always do because it will make or break eggs benne), it seemed maybe canned? It wasnt horrible, just not worth the guilt I would have the rest of the day for consuming a billion calories before 10 am. We may return.

Fresh Start Café puts the grease in greasy spoon. They served a 3-star basic breakfast… but everything was so greasy, –1 star. Scrambled eggs were well cooked, hash browns not too crispy, okay sausage and bacon… but everything was swimming in grease. Biscuits and gravy were pretty bad, and the coffee was meh, but my cup was refilled often.

We gave this place 3 stars when it actually deserves 2.9! We’re in a quandary about this place. This location has always been a long time restaurant in Martinez. We were very happy that someone was re-opening it again. There are simply not too many sit-down choices at this end of town. But it falls short on expectations. That being said, we have eaten at this place over half a dozen times and found it to have just average food choices and while the food produced is good, it’s simply not great. Which is unfortunate and I am curious as to how some of my fellow Unilocalers gave it such a high review. Again that being said, if you order the basics, such as hamburgers, basic breakfast choices etc you may be okay and not disappointed. Flavoring leaves something to be desired. We are not high end diners, don’t get me wrong. We just want good food served to us. When it noticeably fall short, it’s simply disappointing to the dining experience. The staff was nice and they were attentive to our needs. The place seemed clean and tidy. Due to the proximity to our house I would eat here again due to lack of choices nearby but would stick to the basic choices on the menu. Perhaps if they re-evaluated their cooking processes I would up their review status. I

Stopped for lunch, encouraged by the«comfort food served here» sign. Lots of breakfast(basically ihoppy), a few sandwiches, and nothing remotely close to dinner(although again, the sign claimed it was served). Maybe a good idea if you have kids, but hopefully there’s a child’s menu, as at 10 bucks a pop, it’s a little pricey besides. I went so you don’t have to.

Great service, cute atmosphere, menu has good options. I got the country scramble and it was soooo good. I’ve gotten it other places but this is by far the best one. Their potatoes are different, but in a good way! They were incredibly delicious! It’s only 4⁄5 stars because we didn’t see/hear about the specials until after we ordered, and the prices were a tad pricier than your typical diner. But recommend? Yes!

Our waiter answered a question by saying he doesn’t work there? We finally got a real waitress and she was wonderful. The food was much better than the service, though. If you’re not in a rush it’s a good deal. The ambiance is fair for a breakfast place. Overall, is give it 3.5 stars, rounded up to 4.

My husband and I arrived and it was fairly busy and the waitress was running around in a frenzy doing her best. I get the impression its a mom and pop owned business so I wish them the best. My husband had breakfast including waffles which he said were really good. I ordered a turkey melt which was ok but that’s all. Their fries were really good though.

After reading the reviews I was truly hoping to love this place. It’s walking distance from home and I always much prefer the smaller homestyle café’s than the big breakfast chains. Unfortunately it wasn’t meant to be. My breakfast, Eggs Benedict, was well frankly… rather horrible. The eggs verged on being hard boiled and the Hollandaise Sauce made my stomach turn. To be fair I am used to non-GMO, cage free, organic ingredients so I was in the wrong town for those kinds of epicurean delights. The Hollandaise Sauce was so bad that I actually asked for an Eggs Benedict without the sauce which is just wrong all the way around. Stripped of the horrible sauce the meal was still bland and the eggs way overcooked. Proof is in the pictures. The other dish we tried was the Linguica Skillet. Wonderful to look at but boring to taste. Definitely a «you can’t judge a book by it’s cover meal». I’m rating it 2 stars because the service was decent but I still won’t be back.

Good food at a good price, with a friendly, attentive staff. Never too crowded like the major chains. Have been here 4 or 5 times and haven’t had anything I dislike. It’s not amazing food but it’s just as good as, if not better, than IHOP or the like.

Iv’e been to this place a couple of times and each of those times have been great. This place is only open from 6am to 2pm everyday. So it’s good for early breakfast or lunch. The place is a good size and generally clean. The staff are pretty nice except for this waitress who is an elderly lady, she was kind of mean and snappy. The parking is kind of small but I don’t think that is a problem because it doesn’t get super packed in here. Again nothing special but if you aren’t picky and want a quick, cheap(better than fast food) meal then this is the place to go. Oh and they also have free wi-fi which is good for those who don’t like to kill their data! lol

We were hungry and looking for diner style breakfast. Fresh Start was the first place we passed coming into Martinez, so we stopped. It is retro-comfortable with good breakfast options, reasonable portions, and 50’s music. Apple waffle, french toast, Greek omelet, Chef’s Choice omelet, and the veggie omelet, and we were all very happy. The hash browns were thin and crispy and yummy.(If you are looking for an organic, vegan, kale salad place… you probably better go somewhere else.) We will go back.
