I wouldn’t never be here again, the staff doesn’t know how to deal with customers, I was dissatisfied with my meal, and they start screaming behind me as I walk out of the door that I shouldn’t be dissatisfied because I didn’t pay enough money for my meal, for me is embarrassing how bad customer service is at this place, I’m use to the customer is always right, but not At this place, here in steak and shake Maryland heights they treat you like if they are making you a favor when they are serving you specially the color guy, when they are the one that need our business, I wouldn’t recommend this place, don’t go here, please go and spend your money somewhere else!

The worst steak and shake I’ve ever been to. The whole place is dirty even the staff. Our server looked like he hadn’t washed his shirt since he got it. My boyfriend ordered a bowl of chilli and watched our server dip his finger in it and swish it around. The two cooks looked like the could care less about there jobs and were texting and goofing off the whole time. We waited 40 minutes and never got our food even tho we were the 2^nd table in the whole place. We got up and left. Worst steak n shake experience ever. I will never be back again.

ordered 3 burgers in the drive thru. rec’d and paid for 5 burgers and 3 fries. yeah, I’m not sure how either.

I’ve been coming here since I was a kid (this specific steak n’ shake). My son wanted to come here for his birthday because he wanted a shake after his dinner. We get there February 16^th at 5:30pm and wait for three minutes to be seated. All the employees were doing something, whether it was work or not I don’t know, some would look at us and then look away. We were never seated and I had to tell my son on his birthday that we had to go somewhere else because they did not want to seat us. No one said anything to us from the time we arrived to the time we walked out.

I love Steak n Shake and the food at this location measures up, but the service is the worst. They have the WORST staff around. The hiring manager is a failure at hiring good staff. The staff is lazy, slow, rude, inconsiderate, and honestly just doesn’t care. They are slow not because of the cook time, which I expect to take longer than fast food, but because at times your food will sit around until they feel like bringing it to you. Foid holds up to the quality expected of Steak n Shake, but I can not stress enough how horrible the staff is. Also, they need a remodel because this place is disgusting and falling apart.

The typical S&S, with the typical menu offered, this place is sufficient for the little village in Maryland Heights. It gets busy here especially the drive through, but I wouldn’t expect any less from this establishment.

Most definitely the worst service I’ve ever had. Went there last Saturday night. The waitress who took our initial order was no where to be found. No refills, the shake didn’t arrive till after we finished our meal. Saw our order sit in the window for 5 min before some other waitress brought it over. They never brought the chili over, when I asked she looked at the window where I had watched it sit while I finished my meal. Then when she brought it over she basically threw it down on the table… I always tip 20% even if the service is lacking but I feel the worker is giving their best effort. I tipped 0.00 and almost felt like I shouldn’t pay for the food but did and just wanted to lesve asap. Though before leaving my wife needed to use the restroom and I had looked down and back up she was like let’s go. She said she wouldn’t let our pups use that nasty restroom. Never again.

Most disgustingly filthy place I have even been. Bathrooms were dirty. Glasses were dirty. Floors were visibly dirty. There were hairs on the table and one in our food. The waitress came only once to our table and that was to take plates away. She was rude and snippy. Save your money.

Sorry to say but this Steak-​N-​Shake location is sub par. It’s in a great location but in need of a serious facelift. Unattended tables, no one busing tables, and just has a dirty feel. The ambiance really set the mood for the dinner. There was a large table in their defense, but our waitresses wasn’t helping them, and I don’t think that excuses the wait for water and a soda for over 20 mins. Bad impression that never recovered.

Good Steak’n Shake, prolly the best service I’ve been to in the St Louis Area.
This is definitely my go to steak ’ n shake in the area.

Good food as always from Steak n Shake. but do not expect timely/​friendly service. Also, the restaurant is dirty. Management NEEDS to make changes.

Ok, I love Steak ‘n Shake as a chain but this one is the worst one I’ve been to. And I don’t expect a whole lot, because you do pay dirt cheap for the food, but the fact that it is the worst one I’ve been to still stands as fact.
The underlying problem lies with terrible management of this particular joint. Our original waitress was really slow, struggled to take down our order, and didn’t bring out the extras we requested (like ranch and my side of baked beans).
There was one good waitress there named Jammie who realized everything was falling behind and she was the only one struggling to makeup for everyone’s sluggishness.
When it came time to pay at the register, there was a line of people waiting and disappointed with the wait. We were overcharged for our shakes because it was happy hour after 2pm on weekdays. The waitress needed a manger override to fix it and she was trying to get the mangers attention and he just ignored her! Poor Jammie comes back and tells us how the manager is refusing to help her, so what she did was just give us a buy one get one on our two shakes which we were satisfied with. In her words «This is how I have to get things done around here.»
I will try to get in touch with a corporate office about this place, because management is running this into the ground. But Jammie, you go girl!

Don’t bother. Snotty wait staff and dirty. Food is not as food as other restaurants in the chain. Stay away.

Being the closest Steak ‘n Shake to us, we go here semi-​often. The food is the same quality as any other Steak ‘n Shake. The difference is the wait staff. A few years ago, they were fine, but nowadays they are slow and often make mistakes. Even when the place is nearly empty, most of them stand around talking to each other instead of actually waiting. My only real complaint is chain-​wide: the portions are always a bit small. Then again, their prices are dirt cheap, so you could always order more.

The Garlic Double was amazing! Truly above my expectations for what I’d consider fast food. The Oreo cookie mint shake (what little my daughter was willing to share with me) was pretty much the best shake I’ve ever had. Our service, despite previous reviews, was excellent and three different servers made sure all of our drinks were topped off and food was up to par. Not one complaint to be had!

I just don’t get the reviews that have been posted on this restaurant location. I just had a wonderful experience there.
We were greeted by a sweet young woman before we even completely finished walking through the door, and she gave us a great big smile and gestured for us to head over to the booth she had waiting for us.
She got us menus and took our drink order immediately, and returned with the drinks in under a minute.
Our server came over next, but we needed a few more minutes. It took her a little while to get back to us but it was fairly busy and she was ringing up customers and bussing tables as well.
We placed our orders and within minutes we were served. Now, let me say, there are lots of other burgers that are better than these. I had Fuddruckers last night and Umami is the best burger on the planet… But I digress — for $ 4 meal I couldn’t have asked for a better burger, and it was even topped with a fried egg! We were also helped out throughout the meal by another very nice young gentlemen who took the time to have a conversation with us on the way out and genuinely seemed to care.
It was a great experience, great food, and where else can you feed 3 people (a lot of food!!) for under $ 20? I generally spend more than that on lunch for just me!
I would give them 6 stars if I could. Don’t go in there expecting the best burger you’ve ever had, or white glove butler service, but if it’s an economical, fresh and good fast-​food burger you want, this is your place!
(And by the way, I don’t just blow smoke — I’ve posted many critical negative reviews but this place just doesn’t warrant that. We really enjoyed it!)

Below average service was caused by an ice storm which left them short of help. Steak and Shake burgers are still some of tastiest burgers. I enjoy how you can get them anyway you want with anything you want on them. On this trip I had chili mac deluxe because I just need that little extra to warm me up on a cold day.
I have been coming to this location for years. Steak N Shake has a consistent flavor and consistent average service. :)

We came here this afternoon and obeyed the «Please wait to be seated» sign. Several minutes after waiting a young woman who had the personality of a dial tone came and sat us. Seriously, if she possesses the ability to smile we wouldn’t know.
We waited. And waited. AND waited. I can only assume that if we hadn’t gotten up and left we would still be there waiting. If they were understaffed all it would have taken is someone to greet us and say they would be right with us. Not once in the 10 minutes we waited did I even see a server walk past out table.
I can’t comment on the food because nothing was served.
Get your shit together Steak n Shake.

Luckily for me there is another Steak and Shake almost the same distance from my house because this place has lost my business. Last time I gave them a try, I ended up in a long term relationship with my bathroom. I gave them the benefit of the doubt that it was just me and my screwy stomach, not food poisoning. It was a loooong time before I could think about S&S chili again though.
Tonight after an experiment in taking two dogs to Petco (yeah, not doing that again either) I decided that onion rings were in my future. I pulled up to S&S and promptly placed my order. There were exactly 4 cars ahead of me in line at that point and my receipt indicates that I ordered at 7:42. I left at 8:02 according to my car. Not cool, S&S. not cool. especially with two dogs and a bag of dog food juuuuust out of my reach — but not theirs!
The car ahead of me left in disgust 9 minutes into my saga. I pulled up to the window at 16 minutes in only to hear «we need onion rings!». 16 minutes ago I told them that I wanted onion rings and they’re just now deciding to cook them?! That was the only time I got an apology, «sorry it will be a few minutes for your onion rings». Yeah. I get why the line took so long now! Next time I will go to the slightly better organized S&S on Page.

For some reason Steak n Shake burgers tasted really delicious to me today. I went here for breakfast and lunch today… DON“T JUDGE!!! I had time to kill this morning before starting work so I decided to go in and order myself a cup of coffee. While there I witnessed them cooking up some yummy breakfast sammies… so I indulged in a little bitty tortilla with sausage egg and cheese… just a nice little way to start my day.
Lunchtime – I hit the drive-​thru and got myself two little slider burgers… very yummy…
The two staff that helped me today were super nice.
