Four of us went here for dinner since we had a Groupon. We have been here a few other times for carry out and dining in as well. Don’t remember from our last visit that there was a host dressed in a tuxedo and white gloves to greet us at the door. I thought that was a nice touch. She was super friendly. The cashier was nice as well. We also had a nice and attentive young lady wait on our table. She checked on us quite a bit and took our plates for us as needed. Looks like we went at a good time. The food was fresh and plentiful. The usual soul buffet food items were available. We all enjoyed the Mac and cheese, greens, black eyed peas, candied yams too. I stopped at the grill to try the jerk chicken, but was a bit disappointed as it was dry. Like another reviewer said, the cook specifically pointed out his tip jar. I didn’t care for that too much. The peach cobbler was not good at all. That broke my heart, because I love a really good peach cobbler when I get the chance.

I went to Dusties yesterday to claim my free birthday meal(yes, I said FREE). The hostess greeted me with a smile, and informed me that my meal would be free(after checking my I.D.), but I would have to dine in(not a problem). Since it was a Sunday, the restaurant was just about half full of patrons. The offerings on the buffet included fried and baked chicken, baked tilapia, fried fish nuggets, bar-b-qued pork ribs, mac & cheese, sweet potatoes, corn, ham hocks, greens, salad bar, and you could get jerk chicken, fried green tomatoes and hamburgers from the grill. Peach cobbler was the dessert of choice. Everything I had, which was not everything listed above, and save for the cornbread dressing which was too dry, was great. My table attendant was very attentive and staff was cordial. Dusties is still worth the trip, in my opinion.

Hello I visited Dusties last night ummm where should I began? Ok I use to go to the one they had on 147 street which their food was truly southern style with great taste. Last night was an awful experience, the cabbage was so over cooked like pureed food, the greens and black eye oeas were tasteless. I was looking forward to eating the ham hocks that are cooked to perfection with stickiness but what I hot was ham hocks that was cooked in a lot of water, not good. My friend went to try the fried green tomatoes which was cut way to thin and the cook tapped on his tip jar for her to leave him a tip. This was just way over the top because we payed already. Now you want me to tip him and the lady that is pumping me some soap and lotion which I’m fine with doing this myself. I don’t mind tipping the person who take my plate off the table but the other people wanting tips is just a turn off. I Burned clise to a half tank of gas to eat garbage food an I will not go back or recommend this place to anyone.

Well we tried dusties buffet today and I must say that I have mixed feelings about this restaurant. I’m from LA and used to my all time favorite Dulan’s soul food in LA but Dusties food was kind a not so good and then okay. I tried the collard greens with smoked turkey and there was NOSEASONINGS in the greens so it didn’t taste good at ALL! The yams, cabbage, and macaroni and cheese was okay, the cornbread dressing was dry and the fried chicken had no seasonings on it. The cornbread was okay not too sweet or buttery. When I tasted the food it really made me miss soul food in LA at Dulan’s and also Delicious restaurant on Crenshaw blvd. behind this experience today I’m not going back again to Dusties again. The price we paid was high for what food we choose. We paid $ 37.00 for three people plus $ 1.50 for three cups for the drinks. Our bill was $ 45.05 all together. I think I will continue my soul food search in Chicago by asking my cousin who ate some where on the south side of Chicago. Sorry Dusties but I’m not going back there again. Oh also I got the apple cobbler and a chocolate cake for dessert. The apple cobbler’s crust was good and the apples were good too. The chocolate cake wasn’t good either and I come from a family who makes cakes for birthdays and weddings or for any occasion. Keep searching for good soul food in Chicago! Meiko.

My girl had a taste for something hearty and filling so she suggested Dustie’s. The buffet was the ordinary selections of a soul food restaurant but the food was far from being what we expected. I did not see the glimpse in her eyes as if she enjoyed anything or the typical…“Babe this is good, you got to taste it!” Probably the worst dressing I’ve tasted in sometime which had a sour taste to it. I write this because I’m hate that I spent $ 50 for not getting my money worth. Never will I return…

The food lack flavor and seasoning. The service was less than stellar and even with a groupon, the food was quite pricey. I definitely won’t be back.

I wasn’t at all impressed with the food. I left there feeling terribly bloated after eating three pieces of fish and some bland greens. It was obvious that they used baking soda on the fish to make you feel fuller sooner. I will never go back; not even for the free birthday meal.

Bland! The food is simply bland, lacking any depth of flavor. Some salt or pepper is good. I agree with another review. The food was a bit over priced for carry out.

The food is good and they have all the classic soul food dishes. They are a bit pricey and they take too long to clear dishes(my pet peeve). But if you crave soul food this place will do.

This place needs a make over in the kitchen. But let’s just start with the purple make up girls at the front door. Bad service no direction of what’s going on with anything. The table set up was ok but the salt and pepper Shackers need a good wipe down from the finger prints from other people. Now I don’t have to much to say about the food. But please stop working out the can and the low budget way. I think that this place could be a much better place if you just stop trying to feed people from the south just any old thing. We not having that. We not asking you to make it just like granny use to make. But at lease give us a reason to come back. So work on getting some better cooks. And some better happy people when you walk in the door and you can and will get some much better reviews. Note… The guy that was the waiter for our area was very nice and he did all he could. He even got our TV to work.

First visit was amazing. Thus was12.30– 100p, Tues. Store Owner /manager was at front and seemed very appreciative that i chose his restaurant over Burger King. The ambience is very upscale for a buffet. There were extremely classy chandeliers, nice marble floors, and gold & cream colored curtains. I felt like i went to the hiltons meeting room. I was very comfortable and there were mixture of happy guests. There is legal machine gambling in a separate room but machines you can play in backof room But not distracting Since no noise. The buslady wasn’t a HOBO. The plates never sat long enough to attract flies. The music was good old school music. Thete are coat hangers on booth posts which is great when you Have alot of guests who want to sit together. The food is homemade. The cornbread is supersweet & fried chicken-bland & whiting but atleast it was done. Saulisbury steak and the collard greens are mmmmmmm, good. Dont get me started on apple cobblers, Baker’s ain’t got nothing on Dusties. Aah. Refreshing finally all you can eat without the slop. Keep in mind they do cost a little more but remember, «You get what you pay for!»

Must say I’m not at all impressed with this food… the dressing was horrible as well as the Mac n cheese that tasted like plastic… back in the day this used to be the ish! Not sure who they have cooking in the kitchen these days but ugh! Sorry to give such a bad review but it’s way too overpriced for the food not to be great!

This place is very reasonably priced, the service was good and has a good selection of soul food, but I didn’t like it much. My chicken was too salty. Same for macaroni and cheese. The best thing I had was the collard greens. Even the beverages weren’t right. I tried to get pink lemonade out of the pop machine, and water came out. Same thing happened when I tried to get orange crush. I had to settle on Mountain Dew. Anyways, other people may enjoy this food, but it wasn’t for me. Btw, my wife and mother in law both said the peach cobbler was great. I didn’t taste it because I don’t like peach cobbler.

Did a takeout… Over-priced! I’m only going in my b-day for the free meal from now on… cashier had major attitudes flowing… they need training on customer service. Food is not better than Sweetie Pies in St. Louis and not comparable IMO!

Great place to stop by for lunch if you’re in the area! The buffet isn’t vast but it does have a good variety of food that will definitely satisfy your hunger. My favorite dishes were the collard greens, smothered chicken, and candied yams. Everything was flavorful and felt like you were eating a home cooked meal! My co-worker said it tasted just like her aunt’s cooking back home so that definitely says something. For about $ 11 that’s a pretty good deal for lunch!

This was Mother’s Day to remember. After the over priced service was paid for, there were many more surprises in store. No ribs, because Kenny’s sells them, so they don’t have them. Few food choices, and not all that appealing. The décor was awful, a picture of a half naked Beyonce above my table, yea for me. Overall, I can see why it’s only one reminding.
