Friendly staff with timely service, the food is fresh and home made. Love the chicken tenders, they are thick, juicy with gravy yum, the portions are huge we usually share. I understand the building is historical but I could use some updates and needs some tlc. We will always return:)

This restaurant was just okay… It started off with me wanting to order a beer, but the tap was out. Then I wanted to order a bottled beer listed on the menu, but I was told that someone forgot to put them in the ice. I ordered the prime rib medium bc they ran out of medium rare. I received a medium well piece of meat. It was just okay… not award winning by my standards unfortunately.

My daughter & I were in Sequin, TX and it was dinner time. I looked through Unilocal to find some place other than fast food to eat. She wanted steak. I told her we could go here, but it would be a little drive, so off we went. Generally, I wouldn’t drive far for just a «café», really! There is a lot of history in this building, it originally was a Post Office in 1897, which eventually closed. Then more was added on and it became a General Store, then an IGA. It has been home to a few other businesses before becoming Blake’s Café in 1998. The parking lot in the back is gravel. The front of the restaurant has a long covered porch. The interior is full of old metal signs, lost of just rustic/vintage/eclectic mix of things. The tables have vinyl green plaid picnic table type of coverings on them. It is a very laid back atmosphere in here. The place did not have very many diners, but that just meant we didn’t have to wait for a table! I hope they are busy on the weekends! There is a fairly big bar in there. They serve you a complimentary and delicious warm loaf of bread with butter. We started off with a house salad that we killed in no time flat. We were hungry! Then we ordered the Ribeye Steak, large cut, with mashed potatoes and gravy. Everything was really good! We were both glad we came here to have dinner. We had a nice & friendly waiter, but we couldn’t quite understand him completely. He understood us, so that’s what mattered. If you’re willing to drive a bit to a town called McQueeney for some grub, then come on out!

First(and last) visit. Rustic. Limited menu. Not worth the drive. Our order of fried pickles was too salty to eat. S said his fried catfish was OK, but he would not order it again. I tried the chicken fried steak with white gravy, fried zucchini and mashed potatoes. Meat and zucchini were overlooked, and the batter tasted as if the oil in the fryer needed to be changed yesterday. All the reviews I read about this place were mostly positive, so I was very disappointed. Overall, a poor experience. We will not return.

Like Mom’s cooking if she was a chef. I had fried shrimp, fried zucchini and green beans. So. Good. We passed plates around and I tried the chicken fried steak and the grilled chicken breast. All delicious. Nothing tastes like it was frozen or pre-prepared. If it was, the cooks are geniuses. I loved the atmosphere. Such a great find!

my fam went there for mothers day, i had chicken fried steak. seemed like more breading then steak, saved by exceptional mashed potatoes and cream gravy, but smothered and covered it ain’t. mom had prime rib, loved it! for mothers day, go somewhere else.

The burger I had here was OK… nothing to write home about. The wait time was pretty long, don’t bother trying to eat here if you are on a timed lunch break. Dining area was OK, plenty of room for a crowd. I kind of want to go back to try another burger, I didn’t really have time to enjoy my last visit there because I went on my lunch break and it took a really long time to get our food; until then, Blake’s is just«Meh» for me.

Oh Blake’s café how I loved thee! Before I went vegan and gluten free many years back I used to eat here ALL the time. I always got the chicken fried chicken and mashed tators. and it was so good! Was perfect in every way. Also I loved the salad and always added egg with their ranch. Their ranch alone always made me happy. Plus they gave you a loaf of bread before your meal and it even came with real butter. Now is this place healthy? No. not at all. But if you want Texas-get me fat-food. then this is the place for you. It’s old school country food and always has enough old people in here that you know its good lol. They did get packed at night and so parking could be tricky. But my husband and I could eat here both w/teas for less than 20.00 bucks. Go here! eat here and if your not worried about calories. then enjoy :)

This is the best diner around! We always have excellent service. The draft beer is cheep. The patty melt, chicken fried steak, swiss mushroom burger, steaks, and fresh bread is always delicious. The kids portions are large and ample for bigger kiddos. This is an awesome place for family dinner, meeting friends, and quick meals.

Great meal at Blakes! Warm soft beer bread with butter. We had the fried shrimp plate. It was cooked just right. Baked potato was loaded and tasted great. Onion rings were good too. Not too hard. Not too soft. Oh and good ice tea! Server was really attentive and made sure we were happy. We were! Make sure to check them out!

I think the previous reviews pretty much have it right. The food was just average diner food; for comparison, it’s about equal to G G’s corner café in Marion. As you walk into this hundred year old building, there’s an eclectic mix of decorations, none of which shows an organized theme. There are old gas signs, skulls, and you name it, they got it. My waitress, sierra, was excellent, as well as the cook who brought my chicken fried steak in about 3 minutes after ordering it. The homemade bread was pretty good, and I like that every table gets some. I chose the chicken fried steak with okra and mashed potatoes. Also, instead of the white gravy, I chose brown gravy and sauteed onions. The brown gravy tasted almost canned; the chicken fried steak while good, had a little gristle in it and should have been tenderized more. The mashed potatoes were lumpy. The okra and that bread were the best part of my meal. So, the food gets a 3, and because of the friendly, excellent service, I’ll bump them up up to 4.

Blake’s is in an older building with an relaxed atmosphere. I have always had good food and good service at Blake’s. The portions are a good size and a good value for the price. The chicken fried steak barely fits on the plate and is tasty. Sherri’s salad has become one of my favorite things to order-love all the crispy bacon!

I went here for lunch one day because I’ve always seen a crowd there as I’ve driven by. WOW. I don’t know why people go there. When I first walked in I felt like I was in a flea market or a consignment shop. Ugh! It was dark and musty. Fake, dusty plants were hanging from the ceiling. The floor was filthy. BUT… I was hoping that the food was better than the décor. I ordered the daily special. It was fried cod and it came with a side of french fries and cole slaw. First of all, it was frozen fish, not fresh. It had WAAY too much batter on it.(Probably to cover up the nasty taste of the fish.) The fries were frozen, not fresh. The cole slaw was runny and had absolutely no taste whatsoever. I also ordered unsweet tea. BLAH! It was cloudy and it looked like that it had been made either the night before or the week before. I was truly disappointed. But what puzzled me the most was how they’re staying in business. Either the people that go there have never had REAL food before, or every customer there is a first-time customer. I don’t know. I know I will NEVER go back, unless by some miracle I see them on Restaurant Impossible and they get straightened out. I strongly DONOT recommend this place. It was dirty, dingy, musty, old, disgusting, and overpriced for the product that they’re putting out.

Traveling back from San Antonio, we were searching for a non-chain, non-bbq shack café for a quick lunch. Based on their positive reviews, we decided to stop at Blake’s in Seguin/McQueeney. Great decision. Blake’s is a cute little café off the main roads with plenty of character and delicious comfort food. We had chicken fried steak and catfish, both of which were hot and delicious. Service was fast and friendly and we totally enjoyed the ambience at Blake’s. We’ll definitely be back.

This is plain good food. Prime rib is offered on the week ends until such time they run out and that may be early. The menu is rather good with a wide variety of entrees. Prices are reasonable and service is normally good. No parking and I mean no parking out front. You will get a ticket of car towed. park around back or on the side. This is a country restaurant, so wear anything.
