Do they have their own cucumber farm in the back? Because God-damn! Every dish is served with a handful or more of cucumbers(what is the point of that? no one is eating cucumbers). I have never been to a sushi restaurant that serves cucumber. Sushi dishes should instead come with ginger and wasabi. There are no soy sauce dishes on the table, had to ask for some. The miso soups did not come with traditional spoons, everyone was instead sipping out of them(and they were dirty on the rims). The itself was awful, full of sauces and cream cheese(sushi is not supposed to have cream cheese) and more rice then actual fish. Overall it was expensive, had no taste and seriously hold off on the cucumbers please. Waiters were very nice.

I used to eat here once a week until I sat in the corner table next to the bar on my last visit. There was a medium sized cockroach on the black color bar wall. It was disgusting. I informed my waiter and he pretended to kill it. He obviously does not know this is part of a bigger issue. I lost my appetite. There needs to be a fumigation at this location. Also, train staff on what to do when issues like this happen. We saw the roach again before I left. Does the waiter think I’m dumb? Never returning again. Not even for take out.

Service was horrible. I waited over 20 Min for my check. My soup was cold before I even received a spoon. The fried rice was burnt. Only good thing was the tootsie roll. That was very good. The rest would make me not come back.

With four McAllen locations, Kumori Sushi is a nice spot for a lunch meeting or a family dinner. There’s plenty of seating and parking, service is prompt, they’re kid-friendly(high chairs offered)… They have a TON of rolls to choose from — like, 50+. Things to order: Spicy edamame Godzilla Roll: tempura shrimp, cream cheese, avocado, cucumber, spicy tuna on top with a special spicy mayo Bonga Bonga Roll: avocado, cucumber topped with seared salmon, spicy mayo, sweet soy, chopped macadamia nuts, scallions and sesame seeds Rainbow Supreme Roll: crab, cucumber, avocado, cream cheese, tuna, salmon, masago, and topped with spicy scallops Mixed Sunomono salad: cucumber salad with shrimp, crab and octopus served with furikake and sweet vinegar Unfortch, a majority of their rolls have cream cheese. I’m all for cream cheese, but not really with my sushi. It’s a filler. And the menu is too extensive. Less is more. Menu:

My goal is to try everything on the menu because what I’ve had so far is amazing. New style sashimi, fortune, kanki, paradise, bonanza, earth and Chester rolls are amazing. Don’t skip the spicy edamame and spicy calamari!

I’ve tried so many sushi places in the valley. I’ve moved to Houston and tried more sushi places and I still would go back to Kumori! Their rolls are good and they have the best spicy mayo and eel sauce. Try mixing the two sauces for the ultimate taste bud experience. For first timers who like fried rolls, the cosmo roll is the best! Also try bonga-bonga(it has macadamia nuts!) and kanki for those who like salmon. For appetizer, get the spicy calamari or the shrimp tempura!

10 years of being a kumori regular. Crappiest kumori out of all 3 in McAllen. Will not go back. I tried giving this kumori on Nolana a chance and I’ve even complained to them but nothing has changed. 1. Rolls are made so inconsistently. overstuffed with rice, no flavor, falling apart sometimes, tempura is not crunchy but soggy instead. 2 sunomono salads are so small and watery. 3. Eel sauce is super water. Go to the kumori on ridge for sure. Best one out of all 3 in McAllen. Nolana Manager is rude too. Never going back.

This location has HORRIBLE service! The last time we went to this location we waited over 45 minutes for an appetizer. GO to the one on Ridge Road or the one on North 10th.

Went for lunch and it took over an hour and fifteen minuets to get out. Sushi was warm and I had to ask for wasabi for my rolls. Water was never refilled the entire time I was there. The only thing that was brought quickly was the check. My server was not overwhelmed with tables, either. Disappointment! 2 stars for the atmosphere only.

We gave this restaurant a second chance last Friday night. We arrived around 7:30 and the place was busy. The friendly host told us that it would be a few minutes, and about 5 minutes later we were seated. Our server arrived at the table soon after us being seated. Instead of a «hi, my name is…» And as quick introduction, she took our drink order. She came back 5 minutes later without our drinks and we ordered our sushi and the spicy calamari appetizer. My husband’s drink arrived a few minutes later, then mine several minutes after that. Food took forever. I honestly think she forgot about our app because it was almost cold when she finally brought it to us. At this time I ordered another drink. Big mistake, since it didn’t arrive until AFTER we finished our dinner. Sushi was okay, but too heavy on the cream cheese and garnishing. Server also didn’t bring wasabi and ginger with the sushi(had to ask for it). During this whole time, a friendly looking older gentleman(who I’d assume was the manager) was walking around the restaurant. He never came to our table to ask how service or experience was. I think the restaurant would run smoother and guests would have better experiences if he did this. After this awful experience, I will never be back or recommend this place to anyone.

The restaurant has an extensive sushi menu, and it all sounds delicious. I ordered the Phoenix roll and it was quite tasty, but the fish was a little stringy on some pieces. It may be seat yourself at lunch? A sign at the front says to wait to be seated, but I stood there a while before anyone came over, and once I ordered it took around 25 minutes to get my one roll(it was busy, but not that busy). Overall I would come back, but only if I had a lot of time to kill, no more work lunches

I’ve tried numerous sushi placed in the Valley and the one I return to is Kumori. That said, it only deserves three stars at best. Pros: They have a huge menu. It’s kind of cute. Complimentary miso. The rolls are almost always really good. Try to Komani. Cons: 90% of the rolls have cream cheese and crab. This is cool for me(who secretly doesn’t like authentic sushi) but there isn’t a lot to offer for a true sushi lover. The service is miserably slow, which is a true disappointment considering both times I ate in, I was the only patron upon seating. I once placed an order to go and arrived at the restaurant only to find they forgot to make it. Your best bet is to order to go. The service is the biggest disappointment here.

Sushi rolls were poorly made, maybe its kumori’s policy to make rolls with an obscene amount of rice with little fish, and drench it in sauce? The rolls were rolled too loosely and caused my roll to unravel. Also, my husband and I ordered salmon and tuna sashimi. The color was completely off, even with the color being off I still tried it, and spit it right back out. It was disgusting. No wonder they barely put any fish in their rolls.

Wow! What can I say. Beat sunshine I’ve had in the valley this far! Service was good then only reason I’m giving them 4 stars instead of 5 is because the food didn’t get there in a timely manner. The miso soup was good but they didn’t come back for a refill(they give miso soup as complimentary) will definitely go again. Also, for being a sushi restaurant the temperature inside should be cool not warm.

«Don’t use your credit or debit cards here! My card was cloned and I was screwed with no access to my bank account for days. After speaking to GM I found he was a total jerk and didn’t care at all about a regular customer. I had their number on speed dial and now …»

I saw the Unilocal reviews for this place and I was visiting for business so I went. This place is great! It’s evidently a small chain of sushi places here in the McAllen area. This one was tucked in a plaza and was very nice on the inside. The miso soup was awesome. I had the calamari crunch roll and the fortune roll, both were great. The calamari crunch roll was fabulous. I would get it everytime. Definitely a place to try if you like sushi.

I liked it, it was my first time eating here. I don’t eat Sushi all that often so I was very satisfied. Prices were decent.

people are idiots if they give this place 5 stars. They obviously haven’t had REAL good sushi or have just eaten it in McAllen. The service is always subpar. We were the first diners here on a Saturday and it still took an hour to get our food. The roll and sashimi salad we ordered? There really is no need to drizzle it in «special sauce» that is saltier than soy sauce. Put the sauce on the side. It was hardly edible. I do give this place props though for the modern design as well as the cheap prices for a sushi place… but the sushi and service sucks.

Our waitress made some good suggestions. The prices are cheap(compared to Austin). Earth roll… too many flavors that just ended up being bland Spicy Tuna roll… blah Rainbow Supreme roll… too much going on Fiji roll… better than the other ones Everything had tons of cream cheese in it. The soup was yummy though but not good enough to bring me back.

Not impressed. Sushi with a trendy atmosphere. Always crowded tables too close to each other. I have seen rolls that r common in other sushi restaurants. Almost everyone who eats sushi speaks of Kumori so i came and I was just not on the same boat.
