Pepper’s never disappoints whether it is for lunch, dinner, live music. Every so often the restaurant changes the menu, but I enjoy trying the new items. One item right now on the menu is the Pecan Chicken, which is grilled chicken covered in pecans. Thursday thru Saturday you can enjoy live music beginning around 9:30– 10:00PM.

I was looking for a good soup and salad. Instead, I received a terrible excuse for a wedge salad. It was doused in dressing despite having asked to have the dressing on the side, failed to have the walnuts, and the grilled chicken was chewy and inedible. Now their only saving grace is the martinis were delicious. So if you decide to have a few drinks to numb your taste buds then and only then would I consider eating here.

Nice on the inside. Great wait staff and food was great had the pepper pita. My buddy the Diablo tilapia and he stated it was great. My other buddy had the Rojo burger and loved it.

At midnight, on a Friday night, when you can pick your place at the bar, the pair who tended bar at Pepper’s failed miserably. They were out of the beer they carried on draft. Their selection of mixers lost to a selection found at a RGV Quinceñera and they offered no solutions. My friend ordered a tequila with sprite. They couldn’t even get that right. We had to send the drink back. Thank God for the live music– the saving grace of our night. At a place with so much history in McAllen’s nightlife, it’s a shame, even on a slow night, Pepper’s can’t get it together. Based on our bland experience, they should change their name to Salt, because there is absolutely no zest here.

Very nice people, clean restaurant. Been there with friends twice and the pizza was so undercooked, the cheese was not melted, did not have time to re-order. The buffalo wings, bit into them, pink inside. I know they are better than this, try them again soon.

I am disappointed. A year ago, I came to Pepper’s and it was great. Great service, good food. What Happened? Service absolutely SUCKS!!! Came in Friday night, March 20, and sat for 10 minutes before anyone even acknowledged our presence. I watched two waitresses working the upper section serve only two tables. The rest of the time they stood by the bar talking and doing nothing. While this was going on I observed several customers leave. And the two male bartenders working last night(March 20th) were just as bad. I have been in customer service for a long time and in my opinion all the employees I mentioned would have been fired! Band is good but please turn the bass down. Way too loud compared to the other instruments. And maybe mop up the piss all over the floor in the Men’s room a few times throughout the night. And, the divider between the urinals has been broke for an ETERNITY. FIXIT! Go to Santa Fe, The service is better and the people are nicer.

Online pictures were EXTREMELY deceiving as far as how nice the place is. Food quality was blah and it was overpriced. Probably won’t be going back :/

I have to go here for some lunch meetings and I am consistantly disappointed. Service is bad and slow. Food is always just edible.

I hadn’t been back to Pepper’s since they remodeled a couple of years ago, so I was startled by how much they classed up the joint. Long gone is the worn down wooden bar, replaced by granite countertops and chic light fixtures. I was bummed, cause I went to Pepper’s in search of the fried zucchini they used to serve. Their menu has been totally rebooted(and the prices upgraded), so I ended up with a veggie pita wrap. It was good, not great, but to be fair I went in with a craving for fried and ended up with healthy so that may have affected my judgment. The main thing I need to say, and there’s just no classy way of saying it, is that the restaurant(or at least the bar area) smelled. It smelled like sour, sweaty, need to take a shower, balls. I will not go into why I may or may not be familiar with such a smell, but it was raunchy. I have no idea what could have been causing it, but it was definitely present throughout my meal. Yuck.

The atmosphere is great, I truly enjoy this place. The food is fresh not frozen. But it is almost always slow here. Prices are good I don’t understand why people are not here, they are across the street at Applebee’s paying the same price for hungry man frozen dinners.

Be prepared to wait 30min between your bread, soup, and salad. Come on people the soup is pre made! There’s nothing grilled on the salad! The service was good and the soups were fantastic. They have some lunch specials, but the long wait deters me from coming back.

I remember when it was just Pepper’s, without the Uptown. It was a nice little sports bar with $ 2 burgers on Mondays and Tuesdays. Those were good burgers too. Fast forward to what is now Peppers @ Uptown. It still has a sports bar feel to it, but its kind of like what Applebee’s wishes it looked like. The menu ranges from $ 9 entrees to $ 50 a la carte prime steaks, which is cool in a way because it shows diversity. Its a clean establishment with good table bread, and we were very satisfied with our lunch specials. We had salmon picatta($ 10) and Monterrey chicken($ 9). We also split a cup of tortilla soup($ 4). The presentation on each dish was very nice and the flavors were clean.

I was expecting a quality meal with great service, as this restaurant has been marketed as a rather nice dining establishment. What I experienced, however, was far from that. The service was terrible, from the moment we entered. One server had to be reminded to take my friend’s drink order before almost walking away. Our actual waiter had no idea what was in the minestrone soup, and didn’t offer to find out. He did have to go read the special from the board because he didn’t know that, either. My friend’s Caesar salad tasted like it was dressed with water and my coke had to be refilled at the bar because it was flat. And we had soup and salad during lunch hours, with a whopping bill of $ 37! I was terribly disappointed and will discourage any of my friends from subjecting themselves to such poor customer service and terrible food, and then paying through the nose for it!

This was the worst restaurant I’ve been to down here in a long while! The menu was bland — but it’s not like I even got to experience it. The waiter didn’t even bother to speak to us even though we were sitting there for at least thirty minutes! The manager brought our drinks and our appetizer(which was also sub-par!). Finally we got tired and left to Applebee’s across the street and they didn’t even have the decency to apologize! Displicable.

I come here almost every time I visit my family. I know a guy that’s a manager, so it’s always nice to see him and talk to him a bit. He’s no longer a manager here, though. That’s what our waitron told us today. They also only have Shiner and Miller Lite on draft now… they used to have Newcastle(switched to Fat Tire temporarily) and some other random crappy AB beer. Here’s the thing that bumped them down to three stars, though. $ 1.50 pints were advertised, but when I asked about it, it only applied to the Miller Lite… not the Shiner. Pretty damn annoying, if you ask me. Fortunately, though, unlike other bars I’ve been to recently, a pilsner(23oz) of Shiner was only $ 5.25. Still a tad expensive, but it’s not like paying $ 4.50 for a bottle(%$*# those guys!). We got a half order of nachos, which was a little undersized, if you ask me. They were okay, can’t complain too much… I was stuffed from mom’s food from earlier. Very simply made… just chips, cheese, tomatoes, and onions(we got jalapenos on the side). The burgers are usually pretty good, they even offer a Rolex burger. It’s a regular burger(served when available) with a solid gold Rolex around it for a mere $ 10,000. :) The service we received was decent, he was attentive without stalking our table. I’m now very used to the smoking ban in Austin, so when a couple of guys sat at the table next to us and lit up, I was more than slightly annoyed. I commented on it to my mom and I think they put it out almost right away, although I was trying to be discreet. I thought that there was a separate smoking section here… but maybe not anymore. Perhaps this place has gone slightly downhill since my friend isn’t the manager anymore.
