It was pretty good, however, it took a long time to get our food. We started off with spicy calamari which had a strange but good taste to it. It was pretty much fried calamari drizzled with Valentina and served with Valentina for dipping. It was kinda addicting in the way you can’t just eat one. I got the Reynosa roll which was great but the roll was cut unevenly. Out waitress was great, she was so willing to help us and she suggested a great dessert! I would come to this kumori again!

The food is great as take out. The inside is pretty dirty. The plates, tables, and chairs are worn-down. Which makes it unpleasant to dine in. It is pretty dark in there. They would benefit from turning on the lights ever so often to clean up the restaurant. It feels unsanitary. It can only make me imagine why the kitchen looks like. Something to think about.

This place is so good! I love that you get a free bowl of miso with your meal, and the price is not bad at all. The Jalapeño firecracker is a must, it’s so flavorful and delicious. The Komasa roll is my friend’s favorite, and I would recommend it for anyone who prefers rolls without raw fish. It’s very tasty. The Picasso roll is what I got, and it has yellowtail which is one of my favorite fish to eat for sushi. It was very good as well, and came with some cucumber salad. Our waiter was very friendly too.

I really like this restaurant. The service and food is great. The service is quick and their open kitchen is clean without the clutter. I always make it a habit to check out their counter and look at their fish(presentation). The main purpose is to serve their customers without contaminating the food and so far I am giving them my two thumbs up. I like to walk across getting my car washed. Kumoris on 10th street. They are most definitely worth the walk over.

My goal is to try everything on the menu because what I’ve had so far is amazing. New style sashimi, fortune, kanki, paradise, bonanza, earth and Chester rolls are amazing. Don’t skip the spicy edamame and spicy calamari! And yes – there’s a wait, people. It’s made fresh to order. Quality takes time. It’s not a buffet. Relax. Enjoy a drink(they are very inexpensive!) and enjoy a nice meal.

This place used to have deliciously trashy Mexican«sushi» but it’s really gone downhill recently. They can’t seem to keep servers for more than a week, so service is a joke – I got up to serve myself my own spicy mayo on our last visit. They have always bulked up their rolls with rice, so I’ve made a habit of asking for«light rice.» It used to work, but as you can see from the pictures below, they don’t really listen anymore. The iced tea is awful, you can never get refills, and everything from the menus to the chair seats to the bathrooms is… sticky. Save yourself from a bad meal and go to Tokyo Sushi instead.

Not sure why anyone would come back to this restaurant. It was very crowded but I’m not sure why. Service was horrible. Ordered a tea and then sat with an empty glass with ice in it. Got water refill. Thirty minutes and haven’t tried the food so I can’t comment on it right now. The problem is this is a sushi restaurant that appears to be run by people that should be serving greasy Mexican food. I’m sure there are far better places for sushi in town but I didn’t choose this location. Food was good. Manager was nice. Ghetto staff.

Sushi rolls were poorly made, maybe its kumori’s policy to make rolls with an obscene amount of rice with little fish, and drench it in sauce? The rolls were rolled too loosely and caused my roll to unravel.

They have some interesting rolls here. I went there on Saturday night with a neighbor and we had a great time. Unfortunately my server cloned my credit card. Two hours later the bank was calling me to report suspicious purchases at Best Buy. I tried to discuss with the manager, but he refused to speak. In summary, great salads, soup, and sushi rolls, as for the servers cloning cards, well next time I’ll pay in cash… lesson learned, part of living in the valley I guess. Which I’m happy to say I won’t be a resident for long… I’ve been parolled and am looking forward to not living in a cat litter box of a town.

The service is better at this location than the one on Nolana! The sushi is good mainly go for the variety! Always ask for no cream cheese though def makes the sushi more fresh/light! The ocean roll has to be my favorite!

Waiter totally messed up my wife’s order last night. Also tried to make her pay extra for ponzu sauce. He then tried to make her feel guilty by telling her that he will take it out of his paycheck. Last time coming here after 10 years of good service. Bye!!!

Yeah, yeah, yeah Kumori isn’t the fanciest or most creative sushi restaurant you’ve ever been to but the miso soup is hot, sushi is cold & food is consistently good. Start off by going to this location rather than the one on Nolana, the service is always much better and the place isn’t as packed. I’d suggest getting yourself some of the fresh squeezed lemonade to cool off from the South Texas sun. A few minutes after being seated, your miso soup will arrive. Don’t be a wimp, pick it up with your hands and bare the heat as you gulp it down, seaweed, scallions & all. Don’t let the large menu intimidate you. Start off with an appetizer like their signature Kumori rice over an average fried rice. This bowl of deliciousness is fried rice, vegetables, chicken, beef, shrimp, mushrooms, bean sprouts and a touch of garlic. For the more conservative sushi lovers, they’ve got your California and Philadelphia roll and they even have teppenyaki or yakisoba for the non-sushi eaters. If you really enjoy trying new rolls, I’d suggest an extravagant roll like the Maui Wowie roll(soft-shell crab, avocado, cream cheese, topped w/sashimi grade tuna, spicy mayo, sweet soy, scallions & sesame seeds) or the Ocean roll(shrimp, salmon, cucumber, avocado, squid salad, topped w/sashimi grade salmon, whitefish & new style sauce). BEWARE: most rolls come with cream cheese(it’s a valley thing I think) so if you aren’t used to that or don’t want to try it, make sure to tell them to remove it. I really enjoy Kumori and although it’s not the best sushi I’ve ever had, the restaurant(this location in particular) is one of my go-to places for sushi or Japanese fried rice in the valley.

Having had lived in Japan for several years, I’m slightly partial to the way sushi should be prepared and served. I’m not a fan of all the rolls Kumori serves with tampico and imitation crab. Tampico paste is about as Japanese as the American flag, and it looks like throw-up and I don’t want it anywhere near me! That said, I know Kumori is more of a Western take on sushi, so I’ll cut them some slack and review it for what it is. I ordered the lunch special with 3 pieces of nigiri sushi and 1 philadelphia roll. The nigiri and the roll was just average. I tried dipping my roll in the eel sauce, which gave the roll quite an interesting flavor. The service was decent, but not excellent. The value for your money at lunch is about average. I’ll return to Kumori because I’m interested in trying more of their unique rolls, minus the tampico of course.

Miso soup is good and hot. The cucumber salad with squid is my favorite, a must have. My only issue is that almost all the rolls have cream cheese and/or imitation crab meat. Also, the sashimi I ordered wasn’t as fresh tasting as I would have liked. If you aren’t a sushi critic or Japanese, you will probably enjoy it.
