Love their tea, so good. Décor is classy and service is alright, but I didn’t care much for the food on the buffet.

Sadly — just went today for lunch and the sign in the door stated«Lost the Lease.» Not sure if they’ve relocated. Their website doesn’t seem to be working, either.

Good but I feel it could be even better if the restaurant was run with optimal management. The owner needs to either run the kitchen or invest in a chef as good as he is. Because the quality if food really Depends on who is working the kitchen. The service is attentive, and some people say that the owner may come off as rude but I wouldn’t hold it against him. He can seem stern, but he does have a sense of humor.

I love this place! I cannot get enough of their«butter chicken» and their vegetable somosas! The butter chicken sauce is just delicious! I have never tried anything like it! The staff is always super friendly! The restaurant is always clean. Prices are great.

Inadequately staffed for a busy Saturday night. Poor customer service. People do not get seated and served on a first come first serve basis. The only saving grace is the food. The ambience is not bad. This restaurant would probably improve service if there were some competition from another Indian restaurant in this area.

It’s still true. It’s a little hit or miss. But it’s never as low as a three-star. That was unfair. When it’s a hit, it’s a five-star restaurant. The truth is, if I didn’t have its best days to compare them with, I’d probably think its so-so days were five-star as well. Probably 4 ½ is the ideal rating, but I can’t figure out how to give it the extra ½ star. It is rather upscale without being uncomfortably fancy. They are usually playing Indian movie clips on the TV.(I wish they’d turn the volume up just a little.) The owner isn’t rude. I thought he was for a long time, too. I think he’s just not that confident about his English. I have noticed that the food is better when he’s in the kitchen.

Solid lunch buffet at a good price. They bring the naan strait from the kitchen, so it is fresh and hot albeit not in large enough amounts if you wish to pig out. An additional surprise, the buffet desert was delicious too. Service-wise, I agree with other reviewers that an older man, perhaps an owner, is a bit rude. Otherwise, everyone is very nice and helpful.

Well I read some reviews saying that the gentleman is kinda grumpy but honestly If the food is really good I can over look it, however he wasn’t. Food was really yummy I had the chicken vindaloo and my wife had the lamb vindaloo and both were delicious. Rice was perfect and the nan bread was fantastic. We just moved here from El Paso, Texas so I pleasantly surprised to find this establishment. We’ll definetly comeback for more.

Had the lunch buffet. Liked the sauce but the chicken tikka masala chicken was not cooked long enough. It was good but could be better. The Naan was awesome. Very fluffy and fresh when brought to you. Basically the only meal to eat all the day as I am still full from lunch!

We came to Taste of India for dinner, and it was an OK experience. We ordered a Roti and vegetable samosa for appetizers and they were good. The sauce the samosa came with was not spectacular. I felt like it could of been a little more sophisticated. For entrees we ordered lamb vindaloo and chicken tikka Masala. The lamb was delicious. The meat was tender and the spices were on point. The chicken was kind of dry and i am not going to order it next time. I give this place 3 stars because the service was terrible. The waiter kept on forgetting what we ordered and we had to remind him a whole bunch of times. Also he never came around to refill our water. The service was super slow and they seriously need to hire more servers.

I’ve been to Taste of India at least 3 times and have always enjoyed their food and service. It’s probably my current favorite Indian restaurant. The gentleman(I assume he’s the owner) was a little abrasive at first, but he started to warm up to us the more we came to visit. I think it’s funny how the cooks are obviously NOT Indian, but that doesn’t demean the quality of the food one bit. It always comes out hot and fresh and unbelievably tasty. Some of my fave dishes are of course chicken tikka masala and mango chicken. Their naan is always plentiful and so soft and fluffy, plus their gulab jamun is among some of the tastiest I have ever had. If you want something different for lunch or dinner, I would definitely recommend Taste of India. Their buffet is a great way to try a little bit of everything until you find your favorites. Don’t forget to down all of that delectable food with a Kingfisher beer!

I’ve only been here a few times, but I am very impressed each time. The waiters have always been attentive and friendly. One of my favorite dishes is the Chicken Tikka Masala. The sauce is excellent and flavorful. I also really like the rice and naan. They’re delicious! The atmosphere is nice and pleasant. They have a couple TV’s on with traditional Indian music videos on, but the volume is low or not on at all so the restaurant can be on the quiet side if it’s not very busy. Their prices are a little on the pricy side. Most dishes cost about $ 9-$ 15, but this seems reasonable considering other restaurants charge this much for dinner. Your best value is the lunch buffet offered until 3 or 4 pm for $ 10. It includes a good selection of dishes, but I am just going to mention the ones I tried. Chicken Tikka Masala, Basmati rice, Papadum(a crunchy lentil wafer), and some Vegetarian dishes as well such as Channa Masala(chickpeas in masala spice), Palak Panir(Spinach with cheese) and Alu Ghobi(cauliflower and potatoes) It also has salad and a few desserts as well. I tried the Kheer which is a sweet rice pudding that was a nice treat. I definitely recommend this place and will keep coming back for more!

Been coming to Taste of India regularly for the past few years and I am never disappointed. The family that runs this place is always pleasant and friendly. I always order the vegetable samosas and I love how they remind me of savory empanadas. The chicken tikka masala is always cooked just right with the right amount of heat and spice. My favorite dish is the chicken mango made with their homemade mango chutney. It is sweet, spicy and has all the exotic spices one expects out of great Indian food. The nan is always fresh. If you’ve never tried Indian food, overcome your fears and broaden your taste buds. Go try some of the best food in the Valley.

I came here for the buffet. Overall, it tasted great and I’d give it four stars for simply existing in The Valley. It truly is a rarity. Still, having had a fair share of Indian food at other places, I’m unable to rate it higher. I wasn’t really convinced with the dishes that were out. I’ll more than likely go back, but I’ll probably test out their menu selection instead.

Taste of India features an amazing array of Northern Indian food, especially for the McAllen/RGV area, this place rocks!!! The sauces they provide with the appetizers are pretty tasty. I’m not a huge fan of the crunchy, garlicy appetizer they give, but everyone else at the table loved it so I know it’s just my tastebuds that didn’t agree with it. My all-time fave dishes include the succulent, delicious MANGOCHICKEN(my favorite) along with the chicken tikka masala, curry chicken, and butter chicken!!! Their rice always comes out cooked to perfection. The raita definitely helps to soothe the spice, and gulab jamun is the best way to end such a fabulous dinner! I have never had the chance to enjoy their lunch buffet, but I would definitely do it in a heartbeat if given the chance. Try a King Fisher Indian beer with your meal, you will love the cold, refreshing taste. The staff is suuuupperr friendly, always flexible and accomodating and always willing to make suggestions and bring out extra plates for everyone at the whole table to share and enjoy their wonderful food! I love the fact that this is a very hospitable Indian family who pretty much runs the whole joint, so they are very attentive to any discrepancies or problems you may have while dining there. You will find lovely Indian shows playing on their TV any time of the year, and don’t forget to pick up some mango chutney on your way out :) I’ve tried at least a dozen different Indian restaurants, including several in San Antonio and the one at the Hotel in Harlingen, but I must say that this is by far the BEST Indian food you will find south of Austin!

This is either the only Indian place in McAllen or one of two places. They have a lunch buffet with the standard options such as Saag Paneer and Chicken Tiki Masala, chickpeas in curry and a couple of other vegetarian options. The best thing is they cook the naan to order rather than it sitting on the buffet. You have the option to order off the menu. Dinner is menu only.

Quirky choice for Sunday brunch, but delicious! Reasonably priced and well varied, including not-too-buttery butter chicken, juicy and lean tandoori, and some of the best paneer I’ve ever had. My only qualm is that it feels like the owner troves the 200 square foot joint with an iron rod! He makes comments about how much you are serving yourself and is not happy if you ask for anything to supplement the buffet. Drink refills are also few and far between. The owner’s wife cooks all the food and his sons wait tables – truly family run. Strange Indian dance competitions brightly play on all 7(!) TV screens throughout your meal, but I feel that it kind of adds to the authenticity. Overall its charming and a must-try in the Valley.

Indian food? In McAllen? Now this I gotta try! Thankfully Sabrina S and Cory blazed the trail before me. I drug my parents here as a new food adventure and we were really happy with the result! It’s a little pricier than Indian spots in Austin but since it’s probably the only viable option around. We had samosas(hot fried and crispy), chicken tikka masala and some lamb korma. My parents don’t like spice so we asked them to make it white people spicy and they complied with a grin. Everything was hot, delicious, well spiced and served in these gorgeous copper pots. We washed all the goodness down with some frosty beers. We’ll be back for some of that legendary tandoori!

Great Indian food. And not just because this is the only Indian food place in McAllen; Taste of India would hold-up in any city with multiple Indian places. The tandoori here is phenomenal. I’ve never been a fan of tandoori chicken since it’s not the most exciting chicken preparation out there, especially in the land of carne asada that is the Valley. But the tandoori here is great. The spices added here make the dish. Extremely flavorful. And the tikka masala is to die for. Fresh, bursting with flavor, and the perfect amount of creaminess to satiate the American palate. I love to accompany my meals here with the mango lassi. And even though naan is not included in the meals, it is very good and worth the extra three dollars. A big plus for Taste of India: the Indian programming that always plays here makes for very interesting dinner conversation. The service here is inconsistent but not a problem. I’ve had really great service as well as shoddy service too. Every time I’ve eaten here it’s pretty much just an older couple taking care of customers. There’s been some times when they are extremely friendly and others when they’ve been kind of weird. I recall a couple of times receiving attitude for not eating everything on my plate during the buffet hours. If I’ve already agreed to have my plate taken from me, there’s not really a need to ask if I’m not going to eat the samosa left on my plate. However, these lapses in service have not prevented me from returning. The Valley is really lucky to have this place. This place seems to have a steady stream of customers but I still think it’s a shame that this place is not more popular, considering the super buffets in McAllen seems to lure people in droves.
