It tries to be a dive bar you can smoke in. It succeeds. If you want that, it is a fun place. If you don’t want a smokey dive bar then this place isn’t for you.

This is a real BAR! Cheap drinks, smoking allowed, and good music.(Stones, Allmans etc) Definitely a local place but the regulars are friendly and there is even a karaōke room next door if you need to clear your lungs. Think of Paddy’s Pub of «Always sunny in Philadelphia»

Understated bar, cheap beer and an inattentive bar maid. Greasy Chinese food next to a place where you can smoke and drink. What more could you ask for?

Well what can I say. The Pub does not over burden you with glitz. Simple place with moderately cold beers. Not a destination bar but a simple watering hole reminiscent of the bar in a bowling alley in Iowa. Cracked tv adds to the charm

The perfect place for a drink. I love the friendly people, warm atmosphere and to blow your mind, it serves Chinese food from next door. Met Robert(bartender) today and some other people and had a ball. Old tiny pub… Perfect.

Geras. If you don’t smoke — don’t come. If you do — load up on detergent when you come home

I have had another amazing time here! This place is awesome. If you like to have a good time and hang out with real people, you should come here. Again, I have to say that the bartender ROCKS!

I came in here for a quick drink or two; mclean can be a slightly expensive area for drinks and I didn’t have a lot of money on me. Naturally, my first question to the bartender was asking if they had any specials; she rudely says«well, we’re the cheapest bar in mclean!!» And all the patrons laughed along with her. I should have gotten up and left right there, but I didnt. The bartender was extremely unprofessional, even for a «dive» bar. She was on the other side of the counter eating or smoking for the most part and I couldn’t be 100% sure but she seemed like she was drinking too. I had 2 beers and promptly left, still gave her a tip but I really shouldn’t have.

Tucked away in a nondescript-looking strip mall in McLean lies(lurks?) the Pub, a hidden fixture of a town far too impressed with itself to publicize a place like this. Get ‘yer craft brews elsewhere — the fanciest they go is Guinness is a can, but that’s OK; like a previous reviewer mentioned, with the clientele present on any given weekend you don’t need TVs. Not that you can particularly watch them, as they haven’t been squeegeed in a while and look like they’re growing some kind of culture in agar. Sometimes you just need to descend into a cacophony of smoke and discord; the Pub serves this end well. It helps to know the lyrics to American Pie, just in case an impromptu after-midnight karaōke session breaks out. You’ve been warned.

Tucked away behind The Medicine Chest in McLean, this stereotypical dive bar is not as stereotypical as you may think. Sure, it reeks of smoke(and so will you when you leave), and the booths/chair covers all have rips and tares. Sure, there’s a dart board by the door(be careful walking in, that’s all I’m saying) and the locals give you looks when you walk in. And sure, the service is craptastic… but the food looks(and smells) good. And it’s not bar food, its Chinese food. Because this not so stereotypical, stereotypical dive bar is attached to a Chinese restaurant. And keeping w/their ‘breaking the stereotype while keeping it very much alive’ style, their TVs boast an equal amount of «Sportsman» sports and CNN. About the only other reason I can give you to go here(besides the delicious smelling food that I’m pretty sure is the only thing that masks the smoke), is their liquor selection. Their beer selection is limited, but their liquor… and some of those bottles are huge(that’s what she said)! If you love this place, to each his own. It was just not for me

Say hi to David the owner who hangs out with you a regularly. Expect a smokey old school atmosphere with a Chinese restaurant connected to it. No frills, decent prices and ok dart boards.

Here’s a thought… if you don’t smoke, don’t go to a bar that allows smoking!(Oh the non-smokers, how delicate and important you are.)

The penultimate hole in the wall in rustic McLean if there was ever such a thing. Food? Not a factor. Smoking indoors is the primary benefit and if you can hang with the«townies» you’re good to go. Don’t wear anything you want to wear again without dry cleaning. The owner is a sweetheart and that’s 2 out of 3.

Saying the pub is «Smoky» is the understatement of the year. I had a couple drinks over 1 – 2 hours, drove 1.5 miles home, and still two days later my car(let alone my clothes) reeked of smoke. I don’t think there was a single person in the pub that wasn’t chain smoking. Be seriously ready for it. It’s just as present and offensive as the perfume odors when you walk into Abercrombie. It’s a shame that it’s practically unberable for a non-smoker, really, because it’s the only drinking place in McLean that isn’t stuffed with 40−50yo divorces or rich men showing off. Lots and lots of regulars, and drunks, all of which are incredibly entertaining. From the drunk who comes to me so that I buy him a drink because the bartender cut him off, to a creepy mustache guy, to the very important website designer businessman trying hand over cards to everybody… no need for TVs. There are TVs though, if that’s your thing. There are also eggrolls from the(seriously terrible) Chinese restaurant downstairs, a cheap photo-hunt machine, darts, and comfortable booths and stools. In sum: if you smoke and live near McLean, don’t hesitate in trying The Pub out. If you don’t smoke, please hesitate.

Oh holy salvation. A bar in McLean that is just divey enough to make me forget that I am in McLean, VA. I am no longer a smoker, but I do still remember a time when I really loved chill’n with a drink and a smoke without having to walk outside. This place manages to let you do this(you will find out how once you visit for the first time). PLUS… this is a very American dive bar that serves chinese food :) Implied in this review is that if you can’t stand smoke, you will probably hate this place.

Smoky dive bar with mega touch. All I want in a bar. Actually, I could do without the smoke. The Pub is awesome, but it leaves you covered in a smoky film of grossness that only a good shower can fix — don’t bring/wear something in the pub you don’t want to wash. Like a coat. It will reek! But aside from that, this place is great, the drinks are plentiful, the prices are great, and no one is dancing. There’s a jukebox and darts, and a megatouch machine, and the fries and chips/salsa are yummy. I love this place.
