Love Basil’s restaurant. The food is excellent and the portions are large. There are a lot of options and they are very accommodating to what people like.

After hearing rave reviews about Basil, we decided to give it a try. There are so many 4 and 5 star reviews on Unilocal as well and I am really surprised, maybe Medfield isn’t a foodie town or discerning in their tastes, but the pasta dinners we ordered were unacceptable. The menu was impressive with lots of options and a long list of specials(not sure this is a positive or a negative). The service was mediocre at best. We all ordered traditional pasta dishes, being an Italian restaurant, it is a good way to check a new restaurant out. None of us got even close to finishing our dinners, and none of us wanted to take home any leftovers. All three dishes had way overcooked pasta, and very dull flavors. The cheese on the chicken parm wasn’t all the way melted. I can’t buy the fact that the marinara could every be made from scratch — very acidic, almost straight from the can. The meatballs were unseasoned, overcooked and fatty. It is a pricey menu, and given our first experience, highly doubt I would go back. If you are looking for legit Italian food, try Assisi in Wrentham! That’s the real Italian deal!

EXCELLENT food! This is a dining experience with wonderful staff. It is a little on the high side for what I usually pay for a meal out, it is worth every penny and I’m now saving mine for the next trip :)

Great place! Came here on a Saturday night with my mom, husband and 1 year old. Service was flawless and food was just as good. They give you a delicious basket of a few types of bread, there were some Rosemary rolls that were to die for! I got the linguini and meatballs which was full of flavor and had fresh Parmesan on top. Also ordered at the table was the chicken Marsala and chicken Picatta, there were no complaints. Portions were huge so we all took half home for another meal. Overall: Delicious food in a great atmosphere.

Been coming for years. Just keeps getting better. Pub can be a little noisy but that’s expected. Great for a special occasion.

Went looking for a quiet meal, it could not have been better. The restaurant is located in a quiet neighborhood. The staff and the ambiance were fantastic. The menu has a great selection. We will definitely be going back to try other things on the menu.

I’ve eaten here several times and the food is fantastic. I think it’s probably a little over priced but the menu is pretty unique for the area and the food makes up for the over priced drinks. The service is good unless you are eating at a table in the bar area. I like eating in the bar area so this is normally where I end up and I’ve had the same waitress three times. She might be the worst server I have ever had and every time I go she surprises me with something new. The most recent time I had a pasta dish and couldn’t finish it so I got it wrapped up. Instead of putting the food in a take out container like everyone else in the world she threw all the pasta in a paper bag and it leaked all over my car and everywhere else. I’m not sure if she’s exceptionally stupid or just doesn’t care. So I would say either sit at the bar or get take out.

I have dined here twice recently and things definitely have improved, so much so that I can’t wait to return. I’ve only sat at the bar, so can’t comment on the dining room. The waitress last night was very friendly, professional, and competent. My Absolute Citron Martini was perfectly made and filled to the brim. For my starter I had the crab cakes, which were pretty standard fare but delicious nevertheless. For my main I chose the Seafood Fra Diavolo. A delicious combination of clams, scallops and shrimp served in a light spicy red sauce with pasta. I did not have dessert but last time had the Tollhouse cookie pie a la mode. Excellent and not too sweet. Great bar scene, but words out, so if you have your heart set on sitting at the bar get there around 5. Especially on Thursday for some reason.

Good Italian food, large portions. Piccatta had extra capers I requested. Asked for a meat sauce side and received a full dinner plate of pasta with a sausage for $ 5. Family liked their penne with onions, peppers and sausage and the pasta with marinara.

I have consistently had very fine dining experiences at Basil. Fresh ingredients and both familiar and creative recipes keep returning there interesting. I’ve found the specials to be ‘special’ but beware the specials may sell out. One of our favorites is the butternut squash & caramelized onion soup. Outstanding!

I am the last person to write a review online, but after tonights experience i feel it is only fair to save somebody else’s time and money. Tonight my girlfriend and i decided to try out Basils after hearing mixed reviews on its service and food. Once we arrived(7:20PM) it was immediately clear we were an obvious inconvenience to the idling hostess. Once we were seated, it took over 25 minutes for our server to even acknowledge we were there. Another ten minutes passed and we finally received two glasses of water and bread, another 15 minutes passed and our server finally decided to ask if we would like some drinks. At which time we decided to kill two birds with one stone and ordered our meals. It took ten minutes for ONE bud light bottle to arrive. Surprisingly our meals arrived shortly after. In all fairness, the food was 8 out of 10. We ordered the spinach salad and linguine with meatballs. Granted the food was thrown in front of us, it was very good. I understand that at times it is difficult for a hostess or server to keep everyone happy, but after the blatant disrespect in which was portrayed to my girlfriend and myself tonight, i feel it is only fair to save somebody else their time and money. Complete waste of my time and money, EXTREMELY disappointed.

I had no idea this place existed until a few days ago. Met friends here Saturday night. They were seated immediately when they arrived, we got there a few minutes later and found them easily. We ordered cocktails, then salads. The drinks were great, as were the salads, nice and fresh. Our waitress was wonderful with a great sense of humor. I ordered the chicken piccata. The portions were giant, the chicken was well cooked and sauce was delectable. Like others I agree that the pasta was a touch over cooked, luckily I don’t mind. We’ll definitely come back for special occasion.

I didn’t think Basil could get any better but they have done it. They have improved their already excellent service, they are changing up the specials and nobody knows that the customer comes first more so than Tommy and Karen. We were there last weekend and both my better half and I had an absolutely awesome lazy mans lobster special. Loaded with fantastic lobster and perfectly prepared. Yum!!! A couple weeks ago they offered a swordfish special topped with a very nice lobster salad and it was out of this world. I really enjoy trying the different specials but you will never go wrong with the menu items either I just prefer to change it up once in a while. Finally when there be sure to try a very refreshing«Moscow Mule»! Simply the best!!!

Great Restaurant. Seafood/Italian. Very impressed and I don’t impress easily. I had the lobster/shrimp ravioli. Lil woman had the chicken Parmesan. For starters we had the calamari with the jalapeño sauce. It was excellent. My daughter had the butternut squash. It was sweet but good. Son in law the shrimp lobster ravioli. The waiter was named Bryan he was excellent.

I’ve finally been motivated enough to give this place a review. I’ve been here 4 times, and I’ve had four different experiences each time I’ve been here. It’s so hit or miss that I don’t really understand it, honestly. The place gets a healthy business, and is within walking distance(actually at the very end of my street). Ok so with the disclaimer over lets get down to business. Basil is really the only true Italian food in town, and fills that roll admirably. The first two times I came back in 2013, and early in 2014 I was greeted with substandard service and overcooked pasta. Then again it could be me, I have always been told to pull pasta at al dente and let it continue to cook on the dish/plate while absorbing in the sauce. The ravioli isn’t all that good when soggy and floppy. To top it all off the service was substandard, long waits, repeated requests, etc. The last two times I’ve been here, I passed on the typical Italian/American pasta, and moved into seafood and the quality has improved dramatically. I am a huge fan of Diavlo, and Basil’s version did not disappoint. Chocked full of seafood and spicy to boot. Most recently(two weeks ago) I ordered the seafood bouillabaisse, a French dish. Excellent job, and the spicy risotto was an rather good touch to the plate. It’s not served the Julia Child method but rather more of a paella, with the risotto sitting in the broth(it’s also the way I ate it). Additionally, the service has improved to the point where it’s not at all noticeable anymore.(a step in the right direction). I am giving it 3 stars for now, but if improvements continue, I’ll consider an upgrade. Suggestions: Pair down the menu significantly, you have over three pages of entries and it took the poor waiter 5 minutes to go over the 6 specials for the night. By my count that particular night you had 40 entrees to pick from. You can increase overall quality of the dishes by reducing the overhead needed for all of these.

This is my second favorite place to go! I can’t get enough of their Butternut Squash Ravioli. I used to love the stuffed mushroom appetizer, but recently they changed the recipe and not a fan. They also gave oil with their bread and they no longer seem to do that either. I won’t reduce my star rating for Basil’s due to this but I hope maybe they may read this and go back. Change isn’t always better… ha! Nice place, cozy atmosphere and I can’t wait to go again.

Basil is a cozy restaurant in an otherwise residential neighborhood. The dining room is comfortable with a fireplace, but the bar/lounge area is even more enticing with a wall-length fish tank and a mixture of high-tops and booths. The food is good with a nice mixture of Italian-themed dishes. I wasn’t a huge fan of their Caprese interpretation with grape tomatoes and small mozzarella balls in a creamy Italian dressing. My penne arabiatta was slightly spicy with a nice mixture of vegetables; I would have loved it if the pasta wasn’t overcooked. The hosts and servers all seemed friendly and knowledgeable, however I couldn’t help but feel that we were inconveniencing our waiter a bit. He had a bit of a blunt and aloof quality to him. That’s not to say he was incompetent. Water glasses were refilled and dishes cleared before you could even think to ask. For the ‘burbs, this isn’t a bad place for some Italian without venturing to the North End for the really good stuff.
