We went there yesterday because we heard good review. We are from Sichuan and I think the food was good. I have to say the service was horrible. Despite this, we really have no complaints because we are used to it.
However, in the end, the guy rudely asks for more tip. He does not want us to leave if we don’t give him 15%. I told him in a nice way the service did not deserve 15% (we gave 10%) but then he started to curse at us. He was so loud that everyone in the restaurant could hear him. I have lived in U. S for more than 10 years and this is the first time a server shamefully asks us for more tips. Will definitely not return.

I went Thursday night and enjoyed my dinner. My only problem was the speed with which they served the food. I would have been in and out in less than 15 minutes! I want to take my time and not rush! The dandan noodles were tasty but a bit mushy for my taste. I liked the less spicy version. It was perfect. The jumbo shrimp in garlic sauce were not jumbo and a bit over cooked. They were also cold from having sat on the table for at least five minutes while I was eating the noodles but I would consider them again. The sauce was very good. Next time just wait until I am done with the appetizer before I order the entrée. I got beef chow foon and double cooked beef with leeks for Friday and both were excellent. Oh, if you are meeting someone who has never been there before, let them know you can’t see the building number as you drive by because it is so tiny. And the name, in English, is in tiny letters in the window near the door. (compared to the Chinese version above the Windows). And be prepared for what at times to be constant vibrations from the subway.

Awesome sichuan food! Everything is spicy, delicious and the owners/​servers barely speak english (a good sign when I’m eating Chinese food). We’ve tried many of the dishes here and everything has been spot on… spicy numbing madness!
They also have beer :)

I have been eating here for about 5 years and it is probably the most AUTHENTIC SICHUAN cuisine in the region. Do not come here looking for American Chinese food like Egg Rolls or General Gao’s (Dim Sum café has good General Gao’s, Chow n’ Joy has better Peking Raviolis). Come here for their Sichuan specialties.

2) Sliced beef, omasum & tendon (夫妻肺片) — the English name sounds scary but this is very delicious! This is an extremely famous/​popular appetizer from the Sichuan region. It contains slices of beef, tripe, and beef tendon and usually comes with peanuts and scallion. More info:

3) Cat Fish Fillet in Mixed Sichuian Hot Pot Sauce (水煮鱼片) — Looks spicier than it is! Really delicious and great with rice.
4) Eggplant with Garlic Sauce (鱼香茄子)
5) Honorable Mention: Kungpao chicken with roasted peanuts — this is sweeter and more vinegary than the American Chinese variant, but is great for people who don’t like things too spicy.
Also, I have ordered from here ~20 times in the past 2 years (yay Foodler) and have never had a problem with my order or delivery time.

Had the food delivered. Tried the country style fried rice was was very good. Also tried something that caught my eye, the pork intestine soup schezuan special, ordered hot and it was simply amazing! Spicy, full of textures and broth and it made me so happy to have found this dish and place. Order also came quickly!

Hands down, the best and most authentic Chinese/​Sichuan restaurant in Metro Boston. We’ll definitely come back.

Not sure what everyone’s problem with this place is. It has amazing authentic Chinese food and it’s at the top of my list for spicy Sichuan food in the Boston area. They have lots of specials that you won’t be able to find anywhere else. To list a few of my favorites: wontons with chili sauce and vinegar, Sichuan style cold noodles, any fish dish, chili chicken, beef with napa and chilies are all absolutely amazing. Pork rib noodle soup and noodle soup with minced pork on the lunch menu are both outstanding.
Delivery? I don’t think they should offer it at all. You don’t get delivery from Chinatown, do you? No, you just go there. Same here, this food tastes so much better when it’s fresh.
Don’t trust Unilocal on this one, just go there and judge for yourself!

Outstanding food, my wife and I are regulars here. They create authentic Chinese & Sichuan dishes. Being «chili heads» we enjoy the heat and the kitchen is more than happy to kick it up a notch or two upon request.
They do offer a multitude of dishes and there is something for everyone and every taste. There is a small selection of beer and wine as well as deserts. The atmosphere if very casual and very friendly.

We had an odd experience. Ordered via Unilocal24 (i LOVE this app) and got a confirmation the food would be ready in 25min. I was particularly excited to try the walnut shrimp. I mean, who doesn’t love creamy shrimp and walnuts??? When we went to pick up the order, it wasn’t ready because the person at the front was waiting for us to get there because they didn’t have walnuts. In this day and age, he could have called. We said that and he understood. He made us another shrimp dish which was nothing like what we had originally ordered and we had to wait an additional 15min. We did get a Heineken instead, but it would have made sense for him to call us and say «hey, no walnuts today» so we could figure it out.
There are a lot of places to eat in Medford Square and surrounding areas, I just don’t see myself coming back here.

Disgusting objects they have labelled as food.
We ordered sweet and sour chicken as take-​out and it tasted like a piece of softened plastic inside a disgusting orange pocket with the consistency of leather. Needless to say after the first bite it all went in the trash. That does not qualify as food. No one deserves to be punished with anything like it, let alone PAY for such objects. We are normally not very picky when it comes to food, but that was hands down the worst experience to date. It’s in a convenient location but we are absolutely not stepping foot in that place again.

Excellent, genuine Sichuan food. The gong bao ji ding 宫保鸡丁 is awesome.

Here is a live update of ordering from Chilli Garden. We’ve never ordered from here before, just moved to Medford, and we’re looking for a good Asian take out place.
1÷1÷16 5:19pm: ordered online. Peeved a little that there’s a $ 3 delivery fee.
6pm: text message from grub hub says food will be here between 6:05 and 6:15pm. Great! We’re starving.
6:35 pm: food still not here, no updates no far. Getting more peeved!
6:52pm: I’m getting angry. We’re calling the restaurant to figure out what’s going on. It’s «on its way». I want to cancel the order, but I guess it’s enroute… So here we are.
7:09pm: got a call saying food is here. Are you kidding me??? Almost 2 hrs from when we ordered. This better be the best food I’ve tasted EVER. And it better be hot! But somehow I think I’m going to be disappointed.
7:19pm: finally here. Driver doesn’t speak English well, said he had the wrong address (we live at 68, he had 78) even though it is clearly printed on our receipt and grub hub account.
7:25pm: eating! Hooray! The food is actually very good. Got the shredded pork in garlic sauce, general tso’s chicken, and a side of chicken fingers. Everything wasn’t piping hot but warm enough to pass. Chicken fingers are tiny! Tons of mini little ones, very confusing. So small that most are fried to a crisp. Some didn’t have chicken in them at all. Thank god the rest of the food was great. Good spice level, nothing too overwhelming but definitely there. This amount of food was perfect for two people and we even have enough for lunch tomorrow.
We’d love to order from here again but delivery is TERRIBLE. What a shame. Thank god the food was actually good or otherwise this would be an epically awful review.

I have yet to come back here but the fact that this restaurant reached out to me says a lot about the fact that they value their customers. That’s hard to come by these days… seems nobody cares about the customers anymore. When I see a place who does, they most definitely deserve another chance.
When I get a chance, I’ll be back & thank you for reaching out to me! That means more to me then one bad meal!

We got delivery tonight. We were told it would be 15 minutes. The restaurant is very close. Thirty minutes later, we call to check on the food & «it’s out for delivery». A hour later we call again & «he’s almost there. We got busy after you called»…so if they got busy, how about a phone call to us to keep us informed.
Furthermore, I ordered a mild dish & they brought it with hot peppers all over it, super spicy. Major heartburn going on right now.
The egg rolls were loaded with bread and barely anything on the inside.
The steamed chicken was amazing! One good dish! The white fried rice was pretty good too.
It’s too bad this was our second try & it went worse then the first time! Unfortunately we won’t be back but wish them all the best.

Poor delivery speed but good food: It took one and half hr to deliver — almost made me starved to death. But the food made up for that. Very authentic Kung pao chicken and chili wonton (though only a small serve).

My husband (whose family is Chinese, but not Sichuanese, and therefore he hasn’t learned to make these dishes at home) and I have been eating here about once a week for the past two years. Though we’ve had some other good dishes, we can’t stay away from the ma po tofu and the house special chicken with dry pepper, which are excellent. We have them crank these two dishes up to 11 on the spicy meter, with both sichuan peppercorns and red pepper pods. The ma po is especially full of delicious numbing-​hot goodness.
I also took a well-​traveled friend from California here to eat, and she was super-​surprised at the authenticity of the food — living in San Francisco can make you snobby about Chinese food, you know. The restaurant is always full of Chinese people, which once again attests to the authenticity of these amazing dishes, if our taste buds could not do so.
The food here is addictive, and the staff is super-​sweet. The portions are enormous for the price, and we typically can make 4 – 5 meals out of a two-​entrée order. It’s REALLY hard to stay away from here. Hey Chilli Garden — if we like spicy, is there something else we ought to try?

My parents have been up in MA and we currently don’t have access to a kitchen so we’ve been doing the Chinese takeout tour of the greater Boston area. Chili Garden is at the top of my dad’s list. He friggen loves this place – we come here 3 times a week. Sooo because of that I’m kind of sick of it but it’s pretty good Chinese for the area. They do a mean dan dan noodle, which I haven’t liked at previous places that I’ve had it, but it’s so good here. Have had a variety of Szechuan dishes, veggies, noodles, and Happy Family. The Szechuan fish they make is delicious! My mom can’t handle spicy so they make it less spicy and it’s still really flavorful.
The waiters and owner are really nice. We had a dish that was too salty but didn’t return it and he insisted that they would be happy to remake anything if we weren’t satisfied. Slightly pricey for Chinese food, but nothing atypical of this area. I’d say I would be back but I know I will be and have been 4 – 5 times already…

Delivery took a long time around 8pm.
My order was for the ‘typical’ Americanized Chinese food.
Beef and broccoli, general tso’s chicken, egg rolls, hot and sour soup.
Egg rolls were some of the worst I’ve had. Very dense dough, hardly any filling. Was like biting into a stale bread stick, with a little stringy cabbage inside. Threw one of them away…
General Tso’s: chicken was cut a bit too large for my liking. Pieces were generally too large to be had in one bite. Sauce was boring. Overly sweet, with only a modicum of heat, despite being ordered hot.
Beef with Broccoli: unoffensive.
Soup: Probably the best of everything. Nice mix of veggies and tofu. Flavor was good.
Might try again at some point, but definitely not in my standard rotation.

Excellent, authentic and probably the best Pad Thai I’ve had in New England. Traditionally, this dish has scallions, which are not in the dish. If you’re a fan — ask for them to be included.

Sorry guys, I just scraped $ 50 worth of take-​out into my garbage disposal. Sweet and Sour Chicken was a gelatinous disaster. Orange Flavor beef was red and too tough to chew, Peking Ravioli were edible, Szechuan dumplings were ok, luckily the LoMein was edible or we would have gone hungry. This was my first try, never again for me…

This review is for delivery service only. The delivery girl called said she couldn’t come in the building she had eight orders in the car and didn’t want them stolen. I said OK it will take a minute to come down. She called again as I got on the elevator told her I was on my way. I get to the front door of the building and she left the food on the floor for anyone to take!
So I guess its ok to leave the food out and possibly get stolen but not ok to leave the other deliveries in a locked car and make the delivery inside the building. Lazy delivery girl!
This was our first and last time ordering from them.
