Metropolis Diner

Frequently during busy times, the staff seems genuinely frazzled and running around aimlessly. We have had our orders wrong and things forgotten. And waiting for the food is longer than necessary. That being said, the food is always very good and we have never had any complaints. Although the staff seems over busy, they are always friendly.

I’ll go here for my usual diner quest. I’ll usually stick with ordering simple things like the French onion soup or pancakes. I love love love their French onion soup. They also have a nice lunch menu where if you order certain entrée you will get either super salad and dessert which is nice for the price. But again, I wouldn’t pick an extravagant entrée, I’d pick something simple because some of the food I’ve tried wasn’t that special. I’ve never had a bad waiter or waitress there and they were all friendly. The owner or manager upfront is always a hit or miss; either you get greeted or ignored while he’s talking on the phone or looking around. Kind of makes it seem awkward. I definitely prefer this diner over California diner which is in Patchogue.

Sunday, late afternoon, we enter this establishment and request a table. We are a party of 3. We are told we would have to wait for a table, but if we took a booth we could be seated immediately. I said, what do you mean, there are a bunch of empty tables. He says we hold those for parties of 4 or more. Really! 3 pm on a Sunday and no one else waiting to be seated. Another employee or owner or whatever tells him to seat us at the round table. We should have just left there and then rather than expose ourselves to the horrible food. My dh ordered the fried flounder filet sandwich. It appeared to have been fried, refried, and possibly friend a third time. The onion rings were dripping of oil! I ordered a large breakfast of french toast, egg, bacon. The bacon was burnt to actually black! The egg, which I ordered over well and not broken, was a fried egg… yoke broken and not what I ordered. In a nutshell the food was of below standards, for sure. We both had to pop some antacids … dh was belching the greasy food all night. Our son was not impressed with his meal either.
The place needs a complete renovation … everything looks old, stained, and dusty.
The one good thing I must say was that our waitress was extremely pleasant and willing to make right whatever she could.

When I was a kid we were here all the time, the brothers (owners) were really good to us and the food was so great, my go to as a kid was obviously their chicken fingers and potato skins, always asked for a bowl of blue cheese or honey mustard, and they obliged!
Growing older I discovered their awesome steak sandwich… But over the years quality has gone down, and price has gone up, if I need soup, they are local and okay, I don’t go much because… Well, 1. It’s just a diner, and 2. It’s a pricey diner.

Always a great go to spot for family get togethers. Whether after a elementary school concert or after a trip to the movies this place always delivers. Get anything standard as for diners: Greek salad, grilled cheese, chicken parm, cheeseburgers, pancakes or spanakopita. I’ve seen fellow diners complain about the prime rib… Really? You’re at a diner what are you expecting!
SERVICE is always above par! Friendly and accommodating and respectful and considerate of small children.

Got take out from this place tonight. Got the French dip and cheese fries. Food was good and service was quick. The low rating is due to finding earwigs under my sandwich midway through the meal. I called to let the person know, he apologized and offered to make me a new order. I told him it was fine because I didn’t want to drive back there, but just wanted to let him know incase there were more in the kitchen, and he began to give me an attitude.
Will not be going back to this place!

I come here weekly to eat. The food is always fresh and the diner is clean, comfortable, & always busy. I love the grilled chicken brown rice, & steamed veggies, on the healthy choice menu. The Thanksgiving wrap is over the top. All the salads are very popular. Check out the specials on the chalk board for fresh, mouth watering dishes. The service is always super fast & friendly. The waitresses go above and beyond for you. Never had a bad experience. Keep up the good work metropolis.

I will not return. Fish was bland. 2 kids meals… no dessert. Peas looked paltry. Red potatoes were overcooked. One was charred black. Service was acceptable. If this is best in the area im going to a different area next time.

I went in to Metropolis Diner with three other people around 11 am on a weekday. It looks and feels like a regular diner. The hostess was very attentive and we decided to do take out. We were then directed to the take-​out area. We grabbed a seat and looked over the menu. The prices are fair. Cinnamon Raisin Challah French Toast immediately caught my eye! Yum I knew I had to try it. I got distracted by another table arguing with the waitress who then got who I assumed to be the Manager. The manager went over but it didn’t seem like he solved the problem. I began to get nervous! We received our take out order in about 15 minutes and got to the house in about 5 minutes. My food was delicious but two of the other people’s order was messed up or missing food.
Check your take out carefully before leaving. You don’t want to be disappointed…

Not the most friendly of service, but the food is decent all around. It’s my go-​to for a local diner. Décor is typical of what most LI diners look like. You can also call your order in and have it as take out which is a nice feature, but don’t expect to find a menu online.
Guys, get friendly will you? Especially the owner. He’s always got this weird attitude. Last time I went in to pick up a phone order he greeted me with: «on phone I could barely hear you.» So I reply: «I’m sorry, my cell service must have been bad.» and he just went back to what he was doing. Okkk… guess that means my food will be ready soon???

While most area diners seem to be going down hill, this place remains level and consistent.
Friendly waitstaff, good food, great coffee.
Everything you want in a diner plus «eggs Jose» — a delicious plate of layered breakfast potatoes, toast, chili, cheese and eggs that sounds terrible but is surprisingly good and difficult to finish. I am always bringing some home for the next day.
Good specials. Great desserts.

Went here for breakfast while staying near by. Coffee was huge mugs and plentiful. Big omelettes. Fast service. True diner experience.

Food is always fresh and delicious. The service is quiet friendly and the manager is super awesome! I have one waitress whom I favor. Josephine is by far the best waitress in this establishment!

Good diner with a very large selection. Help is friendly and prompt. Only problem is that the booths are a little tight to the tables.

Been coming here every week lately. Love the chicken orzo soup. Prices are very reasonable. Free soda refills which is a big plus for us. Feeling under the weather yesterday and was sadden to hear it wasn’t on the menu. Mentioned it to the manager who told the owner. They said they pull make it for me the next day. Manager promised to call or text me that it they made it and sure enough they did! Great service with great people working there!

Not bad, not great, slightly below average diner. Clean, the generic chrome and teal diner motif, bathrooms are immaculate, the staff are friendly at times, and the foods alright if you order safe (Breakfast, burgers, pies, and shakes).

We were the only table in the place and were ignored for about 15 minutes, before they took our drink orders… Then another 6 – 10 minutes before we saw the drinks. Food wasn’t much better than the service. Should have stuck with my initial instinct and walked out after 20 minutes without drinks.

The owner or manager does something rude every time I go in. Tonight was the last time. They kept pushing us around to hurry and checkout for a take out order when it was them we were waiting on a ticket for. When they finished the manager/​owner told is to hurry and leave before I could even put my change in my
Pocketbook. Seriously? My patronage was in his way? We frequent this place because we can walk to it — nice for a walk and then to sit, but after repeatedly being treated poorly when they KNOW we are regulars is just stupid on our part. Food is average — take out will be same price and half the size of dine in portions. Some waiters are decent. Management is consistently rude. Always seem bothered by staff and customers alike. Ugh.

In my opinion it is not worthy of a one star review. I went on a Saturday morning to this place with my girlfriend, who insisted we give it a chance and see if it could satisfy our taste buds that morning. But little did we know we were walking into pure misery! We waited about an half hour to be seated by some jerk off who seemed angry at the entire world! We were then greeted by our ungodly waitress, who was rude and inept. From here things just went from bad to worse quickly. My meal was horrific, pancakes drowned in grease, foul smelling bacon, and my home fries colder than the North Pole. My girlfriends meal was not any better, she ordered French toast that looked like it should of been condemned and a nice disk like sausage that could of been used as a frisbee! At this point I asked the waitress for the check and told her not to worry about wrapping the food up because it wasn’t any good and off we went to a local deli nearby to eat

I’m going to have to lower my Metropolis Diner star rating because of the experience I had tonight.
Discovered lipstick on my water glass after taking a sip… which sickened me from the start, and I really don’t think there was a recovery from there.
Where we were sitting was close to the kitchen, and I guess they keep their bus carts outside of the kitchen (why?!) and every time a dish went in, it was slammed. How disrespectful to your patrons.
Service was slow, very slow. You have three tables, just come say, ‘I’ll be right with you’, and drop off bread, it’s not that difficult.
Food was mediocre. I had a quesadilla and my usual french onion soup. I was with my family, and they all had simple diner items.
When we went to pay at the front, the owner not only did not ask me how my meal was, but didn’t say anything at all.
I think that next time we spend seventy dollars on dinner, we won’t be doing it at this diner.
