With fields of corn and oak savannah all around, the ride to this winery is spectacular regardless of how you approach. Small tasting room with outdoor seating as well. Nice wines, especially if your palate appreciates a sweeter offering.(i tend toward dryer, but still enjoyed several…) Overall a very pleasant experience. I’ll definitely go back…

Sometimes you really don’t have to travel that far to enjoy the taste of good wine. Just south of Melrose, MN(pop. 3500) you’ll find Whispering Oaks Winery. On a recent visit I have to say I was more than«impressed» with the entire setup. The wine tasting room is intimate and inviting. This is a family owned business and the rows of grapes along the vineyard will make you feel like you are anywhere other than rural Minnesota. The winery is only open Saturday and Sundays through the end of October. Plan a trip and owners Chris and Terri will be happy to have you sample one of their unique blends. Their motto«good quality fruit equals good quality wine».

If you are up north around the St. Cloud area, make sure you make that extra half hour trip over to the Whispering Oaks winery located in the middle of Melrose, MN. I was just as impressed as Rachel W., as the inside wine tasting area transported me to a quaint, European family owned bar. We were able to sample three of the six wines offered, and everything was delicious! My favorites were the Frontenac Gris and the Marquette. They have over 6,000 bottles of the six varieties, but once they run out, you will need to wait until its grape season again, and they can make more bottles of wine. One of my favorite things about this winery, is that the owners Chris and Terri Ellering, make their wines entirely in-house and they are the only ones tending & pruning the vines. Aka no outside workers, other than family! Talk about dedication and a wonderful family. Stop by for a glass of wine, or to buy a few crates, June-October Saturdays and Sundays 1 – 5 p.m. Also, if you’re busy on the weekends, they even state on their website that you can call to schedule a time for yourself!
