I don’t have much to say about this place other than I really don’t like it. I tried Blue Coast about one year ago and I don’t remember much about my order other than throwing most of it in the trash. I decided to give it another chance this evening and only ordered a steak burrito. Less than half way through it was trash also. People, this is not good food.

This is pretty much the exact same restaurant as Chipotle– just a different company. You ask for the specific ingredients you want in your taco/burrito. The food is pretty decent — they have some good salsas. They also have outdoor seating, which is nice in the summertime. If you’re a student or have business on campus, this is a good place to run to for a lunch break between classes and/or office hours. This is a fairly average Chipotle-style burrito joint. Not great good, but not bad. I’m usually satisfied after eating here.

The salsa is crack. It’s crack, I tell you! Excellent, with some additional, weird spices that rock and roll your palate. It’s a clean place, fresh and spicy smelling with a good array of Mexican items on the menu like tacos and, obviously, burritos, and there’s a special sign advertising their fish taco. It’s all delicious and fresh, and you can pick your wrap, whether you prefer flour or corn tortillas and various salsas. Bring a pint of rice home — it’s a yummy side.

I’ve been to Blue Coast Burrito more than a dozen times, perhaps more. They have a very good location right next to the University of Memphis, and so the food is indicative of the audience to which they cater. That’s not to say it’s terrible, only that it is not a must try affair. I have had several items on their menu, and I can say that I have only been extremely disappointed by one item, the fish tacos. I’ve only had baja syle fish tacos which are essentially beer-battered fried white fish pulled and served on a corn tortilla with cabbage, cilantro, guacamole, and baja sauce(a mixture of mayonnaise and salsa… I think?). What they serve at Blue Coast is simply a prepared fried fish from the grocery store, reheated in the microwave, and served whole on a piece of tortilla. The worst part is they don’t even try to hide the fact they are using a grocery store fried fish. They literally pull the fried fish from the freezer and microwave it right in front of you. Oh well, it’s a college food place so again you have to expect it. I have found that their burrito quality varies wildly from good to cold and unimpressive. The burritos are similar to what you might find at Qdoba or Chipotle. I typically order everything on my burrito, and the tortilla never fails to rip in the middle of preparation causing the line to hold up. Whether this is the fault of their tortillas or their burrito«artists» I cannot say. A burrito is filling and more than enough for a typical diner, and the price is fair for the amount of food(college). I recommend Blue Coast for anyone with a bit of cash hungry for something a little different and higher quality than Taco Bell. It’s not a bad place, but certainly not a quality meal. Be sure to try their tropical iced tea, it is good.

I love Mexican food, and I was very excited to try out Blue Coast Burrito. Maybe that’s why I felt so let down when I tasted my fish taco to find it simply ok. I’d heard from some friends that the food was great and the pricing reasonable. That’s enough to draw me in right there. Given that there’s a Blue Coast within walking distance from my house, I thought maybe I’d found a much better alternative than the Taco Bell across the street. My fish taco was really not that great. Perhaps it was just a bad day but the tortilla was soggy and the fish not so tasty. I won’t say it was bad, but I’ve had better. I must say that I was quite impressed though with the selection of sauces during my dinner visit. There was a little sauce bar with mild, hot, medium, white, baja, and I can’t remember what else because I stopped at baja– yum. I will admit that I have been to several business luncheons where they served Blue Coast, and the food was markedly better. The catering side does an excellent job, and I would definitely order from them for group meetings.

I love fish tacos, and there aren’t that many places in town to get them, sadly. But I heard that Blue Coast had them on the menu and that they were pretty good. So I met a friend of mine there yesterday to try them out. I hate to say it, but I was very disappointed. They tasted like a big fish stick between two soggy corn tortillas. The fish was greasy and not of good quality. And they were very messy. Whatever sauce they put on there made the whole thing a little slippery and hard to manage without making a mess. Definitely not what I had expected. Now let me say something positive. The one thing I actually did like, was the guacamole tacos. My friend ordered one and shared it with me. The guac was fresh and not too mushy, and you could add your own toppings like chopped cucumbers and cilantro. It was quite good. Another minor complaint is that they had some kind of condensation problem with overhead pipes that were dripping onto several of the tables. Hopefully that is just a temporary problem and will be fixed soon.

Blue Coast Burrito is the closest thing I have been able to find to Rubio’s. Rubio’s is a phenomenal taco establishment in Arizona(and most of the West Coast) that offers the BEST fish tacos on the planet. I was so excited to see that fish tacos were on the menu, and that they seemed to offer the same toppings and textures as my favorite. They were lightly battered and served in your choice of flour or corn tortilla with cabbage, some type of sauce, pico and cheese. They were a very close second to the Rubio’s version that lives in my head. There’s something special about a lightly battered piece of fish with the taste of a corn tortilla and cabbage. If you haven’t tried one, I highly recommend them. My husband got a steak burrito, which was really good too. You get to choose the toppings(think Subway for Mexican food) and they are all really fresh. They make their own tortilla chips on site and offer a pretty extensive salsa bar– pineapple is one of 7 choices I counted. They also have this fruit flavored tea that is out of this world. At first sip, it tastes just like juice and then the tea flavor hits you and makes you go «OHhhhh! I get it!» Blue Coast is very clean and the staff is friendly and accommodating. I also enjoy how colorful the décor is here. It makes me feel like I should own a surf board and live on a beach– which is never a bad thing. What speaks volumes for this place is the fact that we ate there for the first time over 2 weeks ago and there hasn’t been a day since that I haven’t suggested it as a dinner option to my husband. I think he may be ready to divorce me.

The food is fresh and the place is clean. It is a university place near U of M, and honestly, how good it is depends on the crew working. Think of this as a local version of Mo’s Southwest Grill. Most of the time it is good fresh food cheap.

Good place for a fresh Mexican fix. A college place, but clean, with fast and helpful service. I usually grab the taco plate with steak or fish(lightly breaded; little bit of a wait) while the wife enjoys the big salads. The guacamole and/or the queso are also nice adds, mostly because they make their own fresh chips. Real tasty and excellent kid bribery. Nothing on the menu you haven’t had before, but we always have a good experience here.

like moe’s southwestern grill, swanky’s taco shop, and fuego mexican grill, blue coast burrito is a build your own taco/burrito chain. i have not been to the others yet. however, i can tell if you are looking for a baja fish taco that this is the place. the fish looks like mrs. paul’s battered triangle fish but surprisingly doesn’t taste like it. the fish is crisy and light. i would recommend getting the fish taco with flour tortillas inside of corn tortillas. the corn tortillas overpower the taste of the fish. another thing that i would recommend is their cheese and chips. the cheese container looks small but it is really enough cheese. they also have wonderful fruit tea. it’s refreshing and different. next to the drink machine is a salsa bar. they have verde(green) salsa and pineapple salsa that are not usually options at other mexican places and are very tasty. at blue coast burrito, you can eat cheap and get good semi– nutitrious mexican food. also, they have a nice patio area where you can people watch. also, the people who work there are usually helpful and friendly.
