Jack Magoo’s is a sports bar in midtown on Broad Avenue. Broad is home to several art galleries and restaurants. They have a full bar with beer on tap. Their pours are nice and strong. I usually have a whiskey and water. The drink prices are inexpensive. Their food is fairly typical bar food. Everything I have had has been delicious. On this visit, G ordered tater tots. Another friend ordered hot wings. They have karaōke on Saturdays. They often have live music, too. There are also pool tables. The bar is two stories and there is an outside patio. This is an awesome bar. Good drinks. Good food. Good place to hang with friends. I have always had a great time here.

Ah, good olé Jack Magoo’s…this is probably one of the best discoveries I’ve made since moving to Memphis. Why is that? Because the bartenders there are actively engaged with the people who come into their establishment, and they have some pretty awesome prices on their food and drinks. I would come here to watch NFL and NCAAF games, and they would have Game Day specials as well such as $ 2 basic beers and 50 cent wings. They also have a decent beer selection which is nice. All in all, the food here is quite good for the price being paid, and it’s always a good time here at Jack Magoo’s. The only reasons that I dock them a star is that sometimes they are understaffed, and therefore are unable to provide a prompt speed of service despite the present workers’ best efforts, and that there is little ventilation and a lot of smokers(if you’re sensitive to cigarette smoke, steer clear of upstairs). Otherwise, I would definitely recommend this place to everyone and cannot wait to go again.

Jack Magoos is a fun place with an interesting variety of customers. On one hand its a sports bar but then on the other they occasionally host drag shows. Ive been for both purposes and somehow these crowds peacefully co-exists. They also have music at night on the weekends, pretty good. Lately I’ve been going to watch football. This is a good place to watch a game, plenty of tv and you can usually see at 4 from your seat so possibly keep up with multiple games if that’s your thing. They’re really good about turning TVs to the games as requested. For bar food I think the food is very good, way better than your average bar meal. Favorites are spinach dip, chicken tenders, cheese balls, bacon wrapped shrimp and the brownies. $ 2 beer and $ 0.50 wings on game days. My only complaint is the smoke, I wish they wouldn’t allow it during the day. The owners are very nice as are the people who work there. Some game days it’s practically empty and others super crowded, this makes it difficult for them to staff so sometimes service might be a bit slow if the crowd is large.

I enjoyed Jack Magoo’s. For a sports fan its perfect for watching multiple games within a contained space. Patio is HUGE. Ordered a Blue Moon on draft — can’t go wrong there. Had naked regular and mild wings with celery and blue cheese. Honestly, the wings were hot and I believe fresh but they had an ‘old’ taste. I’ll give them another try on my next visit, I guess. Wings were $.60 each on Monday night. I like the fact it wasn’t super smoky too — but that may have been because few were smoking and/or there weren’t a lot of people there when I visited, Anyhoo, it’s a bar I’d recommend.

I like Magoo’s as a neighborhood bar. It has it’s quirks, and a five-star bar/five-star restaurant it is not. However, Magoo’s is in a really cool building(an old two-story locksmith shop). They have pool tables and a ton of televisions inside. It’s a great place to watch games, as it doesn’t get too crowded and there’s almost always a drink special going on. The patio is also very nice, and the place has so much potential. The crowd is diverse and interesting. The servers are friendly, but Magoo’s has a small kitchen that can get swamped if the restaurant is busy. I would recommend getting whatever specials they are running, as they are often dirt-cheap(for example, sometimes they have PBR pitchers for 5 dollars). As far as food goes, the nachos are very, very good. The burger is good when they have 5 dollar burger and fries, but I don’t know that I would pay full price for it. The wings are also very good and they have a good variety of sauces.

Ordinarily I love the place but they’ve already ran out of glasses for drinks, more focused on the patio than the indoor paying customers and they only have one steak left for the steak double combo.

Wow!!! Normally Jacks is great, but today horrible!!! 1. Sat at bar 15 min before bartender would stop his personal conversation to take my drink order! 2. After taking order was out of the chicken kabobs, was out of steaks and out of spinach! 3. Ran out of cups, served mixed drinks in small plastic cups but charged for the the large glass one. Staff was more worried about people on patio than customers inside!!!

Pretty fun place but I don’t like all the cigarette smoke. OK food. Not great but acceptable for bar food. Our waitress tonight was super nice and did a great job at keeping us in drinks. I’ve been upstairs a few times for full blown blow outs and had a good time and good service. If the food was better than average and got rid of the smoking I would give this place 4 stars. With that said, they have lots of HD TVs hanging everywhere and it’s usually a good crowd and a good place to watch a game or a band upstairs.

This is a great place to catch a game or hang out at a bar. The food I would say decent. The chicken sliders on sweet buns with hot sauce were good and very hot. The chicken was very crispy and the buns were toasted and crunchy. tasted like a hawaiian roll… and hawaiian rolls by the way are awesome! The overall downfall of this place for me is the cigarette smoke it can be bad at times. On the good side the service has always been great we were here during a packed house and our waitress checked on us all the time… even when our table was in the back corner. We have been once before and sat at the bar again the service was great.

Pretty building on a cool street. The interior is cozy without being cramped. Plenty of TVs showing sports. I had chicken tenders and a bucket of beer. Food was good — the tenders seemed hand-breaded, fries was fine — and the beer was reasonably priced. What really impressed me was the diversity of the crowd. I was there early evening on a Friday and the crowd was everything from rednecks to drag queens. Well, OK, maybe only one drag queen. There was also live music on the enclosed, and presumably heated patio, but I didn’t check it out.

Overall, I really like this place. They have a great menu, stocked bar, tv’s they’ll set to whatever game you ask for, pool tables, and two stories of sports bar goodness. However, the set up of this bar is terribly thought out. The building is long and narrow, and the bar is right in the middle on both floors, leaving room behind pulled out, occupied chairs at the bar for only one person to walk past. Terrible on a busy Friday night when you’ve got upwards of 20 people all going different directions on that one lane road. The staff are incredibly nice and helpful. Considering the crowd they work with, I find this to be an ever surprising thing to see. They run a laid back joint, and you can see that they’re encouraged to be the same. My biggest complaint is their live music. I like going to places that have live music… I love supporting local artists. HOWEVER, when the music very literally interrupts my conversations, it’s not the best way to get good feedback. I was kind of disappointed that every time I have been to Jack Magoo’s, the live band’s speakers are set to ‘stun’ and seriously cause me to text the person I’m with because talking is no longer a viable option. I like the look and feel of this bar. Not a fan of the setup or the live music. Huge fan of their menu ;)

We came here to watch the play-offs. They have hd tvs all over the venue. We ordered beers, wings, and onion rings. The wings had a good flavor and the rings were homemade. My boyfriend thought that their portion size was small for the onion rings. He asked the bartender who confirmed that there was a kitchen error and gave us some more. There was a sizable crowd at halftime. They also have purse hooks. We would definitely come back.

As newbies in Memphis, my husband and I have been in search of that«perfect» sports bar. I believe we may have found it in Jack Magoo’s. Upon entering, we were greeted by a very friendly bartender, Eric, ready to help us get to know the place. The amazing spread of TVs proves that this earns the title of a true«sports bar». They offer both options of cable and DirecTV so they can find almost any game you would like to watch. We decided to start with their wings based upon a nice variety of sauces. Decision not regretted! The wings were cooked just right: The right crispy with the right amount of sauce. We went for the smoky chipotle and sweet chili… YUM! Post wings, we chose the Bleu Magoo’s(little burgers with blue cheese) and Chicken Tenders. The Bleu Magoo’s ROCKED! Carmelized onions, pungent blue cheese, on a buttery soft roll. Eric suggested adding bacon which made them even better. The chicken tenders could use a little help. We weren’t super impressed. They were very basic, lacking in seasoning, and overcooked. But really, that’s our only complaint! Overall, Jack Magoo’s was fantastic. We are so excited to find such a great place close to home. We were told they are turning the parking lot next door into a patio. Cannot wait for that! Already planning our next trip back and hoping we have found our new sports bar home!

I’ve been hearing from others about this place for a few weeks now and this weekend I had the opportunity to check it out for myself. Jack Magoo’s is a brand new sports bar in the Broad Ave arts district. From the outside it’s easy to spot the green and black sign that announced its location among the other business on Broad. Yes, it stands out a bit, but not in an obnoxious way. Driving down Broad, you can’t miss this place. The inside is open and inviting with two bars; one downstairs and one upstairs. They also have a few pool tables upstairs as well. Even though we arrived pretty early(3:30 on a Friday afternoon) we were not the only customers. We sat at the bar and ordered a few drinks. The bartender brought us a menu and I started thinking that snack would be a great idea. We ordered the bacon wrapped shrimp and let me tell you, they were pretty darn good! They were so good in fact that we had decided to order some more. We called a few friends and asked them to meet us. No one in our group and ever been to Jack Magoo’s but everyone was impressed. I will be back to Jack Magoo’s in the very near future. Good drinks, good atmosphere, good food… what more do you need?
