I stopped by La Baguette the other day to try their petit fours(they’re decent) and the worker there– after standing around talking with some other workers for a few minutes before acknowledging new customers coming to the counter– informed me that one of the previous owners died and the other one left, so the bakery items were not as good as they used to be. I appreciate her honesty, but this is not the way you do business.(Although as I’ve said before, not surprising in Memphis.) Then I asked if they had iced coffee, and she was like«Well… I guess I could make it but it probably wouldn’t be very good…» And I was like, umm… never mind. Lol. However, at least she was friendly. She heard me mention the chicken salad and offered me a free sample, which was nice of her. It was pretty good. Nothing to write home about. The atmosphere is clean, cute, and quiet. Also tried a chocolate éclair and it was okay. They had a lot of other bakery items available. It sort of reminded me of the chain restaurant La Madeleine– like you find in places like the Galleria in Dallas– but with poorer service and food. Cute place to bring a casual first date or set up a quick meeting in that part of town if you’re looking for something different. Prices not bad.

I was very disappointed with La Baguette. I went on a Sunday afternoon with the idea of getting quiche and a pastry or two. I did get quiche — which was not good at all — but passed on the stale and crusty-looking pastries. Most of the racks were empty, and I waited to order twice for a total of about 15 minutes while two employees argued over what happened to the tip money from a tip jar. I can’t imagine I’ll ever go back. Look to Tart in midtown for a much better version of what this is supposed to be.

This is an adorable little french themed pastry shop. It is located adjacent to/within a very european themed little mall(Chickasaw Oaks) which I enjoyed walking around in after eating. So their pastries are delicious. You cannot go wrong with anything you order. I also tried their breakfast. Had a croissant with egg cheese. It comes with an orange and a little muffin. This not he place to eat if you’re looking for a filling southern brunch. The portions here are small and are meant to be a light breakfast. That said, I’m a fan of the place. The ladies that work there are so sweet which made the experience even better.

This is a review of the king cake at La Baguette. I’m a New Orleans native who was searching for a good substitute. I took to the internet and found a ton of reviews saying that La Baguette has a very authentic New Orleans style king cake(even some from other«New Orleans natives»). The verdict? Tasty, but not very close. Upon initial inspection, we found a solid rectangular cake in a metal tin. It became referred to as the king cake casserole in our household. But what do looks matter? It’s the taste that counts right? We cut a piece and immediate noticed two interesting bits. First, it was flaky and layered like a croissant — nothing like the texture of a New Orleans king cake(which is closer to a cinnamon roll — somewhere between bread and cake). Second, we noticed a thick layer of cream cheese. While cream cheese is one of the many filling options in the real deal, it’s definitely not the standard. My wife hates the stuff, and ended up peeling off the bottom layers of her pieces and chucking them in the trash. I happen to like cream cheese and thought it was rather tasty. Overall, it didn’t live up to what it was billed as, but if you enjoy cream cheese, I’d still give it a try.

I’ve been getting the spicy tomato soup when I’ve had dental work or wasn’t feeling well for as long as I can remember. This is definitely my go-to soup, it’s spicy but not hot with gooey cheese on the bottom and the slices of baguette make it even better! I haven’t explored the menu much in my life but I do have some go-to items beside the tomato soup. Their chicken salad is so damn delicious especially if you get it on a croissant(the same goes for the egg and olive). Finally I’ve grown up eating their chocolate croissants, my first one in elementary school is still a vivid memory(thanks Collin!!). I can’t really speak for the rest of the case/menu but this place is only a shadow of it’s former self so I can understand why there might not be the best reviews, but as for me I still love it and you gotta love a place that is frequented by 80 year old ladies!!! I just picked up some potato soup today(haven’t tried it yet but I’ll edit this post to reflect my impression later) along with my spicy tomato and a chocolate chip cookie. The girl at the counter told me that the squash soup is also very popular and surprisingly I’ve never heard of it so I’ll have to try that later.

Nice little place. Definitely different from everything else in Memphis. The bakery reminds me of European bakeries, which are virtually non-existent around this region. While pricey, the few pastries I tried were good, and the bread looked very appealing. Worth checking out.

So the desert was super rich but good. Sesting id unique but the fake tree by the table was annoying me while I ate. Service was really great but we ordered a turkey and cheese on a croissant bread and we got egg on it. They were nice though. I would go there again but take the food to go.

I’ll preface this by saying when I visited here with my niece several years ago, our experience over lunch was much better than it was this weekend. It’s a cute little bakery, but their Saturday hours are too short, and the customer service needs improvement. We waited a long time to place our order, and the staff was a bit rude to us. We had planned to sit down and enjoy our macaroons in the shop, but we felt so rushed by the staff that we just got it to go and left. The macaroons had been sitting for a while and weren’t as fresh as we had hoped for. We just got two, a blueberry and a lemon. The lemon tasted better to me than the blueberry did. Maybe we just caught them on a bad day? I would possibly try them again just to see if we caught them on an off day, but if I have another bad visit, I won’t return.

A simple local bakery. Barely anything French about it. Very diluted coffee. I’d still go back if I’m in town and visit the very nice library across the parking lot.

Stopped by for an afternoon snack with my family who was visiting from out of town. We each had different treats in mind. My vote goes out to any bakery that offers snicker doodles, as they are my favorite. We all loved our cookies and it’s a quaint little place located in a shopping spot with some unique stores.

This Memphis institution is great for a quiet lunch. During the week, La Baguette is a popular stop for local retirees, but the food quality for price is great. The perfect lunch is their chicken salad on croissant with a spicy tomato soup and sweet tea. La Baguette uses cream cheese instead of mayo in their chicken salad, so it is incredibly rich and tasty. They top off the sandwich with toasted almonds, which gives a great little crunch. The spicy tomato soup is not very spicy, but has a little more kick of black pepper than your standard Campbells, and it also comes with a slice of melted Gouda cheese at the bottom. Mmmm… Service is great– friendly and prompt. Prices very reasonable. Save room for their great French pasteries. The best is the chocolate Napoleon.

I have been coming here for years(as a little girl) and as much as I love it… it doesn’t compensate for the extremely rude staffs they have. Most of these people look like they don’t want to be here and it makes coming here a bit unfavorable in your liking. Esp those who work during lunch hours.

La Baguette provides fresh pastries and strong coffee, indulging my random desire to pretend I’m French. I only stop in for pastries but heard the lunch is definitely worth a trip and will stop in one day for a sandwich and update. In the mean time, I can recommend grabbing a chocolate croissant, an almond croissant, or any croissant. I promise you won’t be disappointed!

I always come here for authentic french pastry. Definitely try their poppy seed Danish — so soft and fluffy on the inside. And if you are looking for a good cake for a friend or families birthday, I highly recommend their strawberry chantilly cake ^

Is it considered a biased review if I’m still eating one of their yummy pastries as I write this? Mmm. I just love this little spot. It’s become my go-to brunch, whether I’m eating there or just picking something up. They don’t have some fancy brunch menu with all the bells and whistles, but it’s a quiet, cozy place devoid of all the midtown or downtown brunch hype. Their breakfast sandwiches on croissants are to die for – best croissants I’ve ever eaten. Their petit fours are creamy and adorable – a perfect little sweet snack for someone who isn’t crazy about sweets, like me. If you have a bigger sweet tooth, they do have strawberry and cream cheese filled croissants, cinnamon rolls, and lots of other larger confections that look incredible. I’ve been pretty impressed with their lunch options, too. I’m not usually a chicken salad lover but the rave reviews from others made me try it, and I certainly didn’t regret it.(Yes, it was on a croissant too. I’d probably enjoy dirt on one of those, but I swear it was good!) The soups have been hit or miss though. My husband had a corn chowder that tasty, but my french onion soup was a little disappointing. I was pretty surprised at that – wouldn’t a French bakery have a great french onion soup? But the onions could have been caramelized better and it was, sadly, missing that all-important melted cheese. There was a little melted cheese over the baguette slice, but I was looking for the melted-over-the-top, can barely-get-your-spoon-in, huge-strings-of-cheese-that-get-all-over-your-face kinda thing. Maybe they don’t do it because their bowls are plastic, but I wish they had some oven-proof bowls just for this dish. If you eat there, you have to sit in the little corridor. Even if it’s cold out, it’s temperature controlled in there and you’ll feel like you’re eating outside even on the rainiest of days. It just puts me in a great mood.

This place has been around for forever, and I have great memories here! I love their almond poppyseed pastries. The customer service is not the best though.

BESTBREADINMEMPHIS. I have been missing the soft on the inside, flaky and crisp on the outside, with just the right amount of salt– bread that can basically be found anywhere in France, Germany and Austria. La Baguette has somehow managed to bring that home here to Memphis. Their lunch specials are pretty decent, I don’t remember the exact prices but I would say comparable to Panera Bread. I had the oft-raved about chicken salad sandwich with the spicy tomato soup, both were amazing. The bread and chicken salad will keep me coming back here, plus the inside is kinda quaint and charming with the street-style atmosphere(you feel like you are outdoors at a café in Paris or Vienna or something, even though you are inside which is a nice reprieve from gray or stormy weather.) Service was also great, very, very quick and with a smile. This won’t be necessarily a regular in my lineup, but a place I do hope to return to.

My son wanted to go to a bread bakery similar to the one in his favorite movie«Kiki’s delivery service» and their counter display was pretty similar. A bit pricey for the quality of goods served there Pretty average macarons & petit fours. The store itself is adorable inside, we may return but wouldn’t go out of my way for this one.

Yummy chicken salad with croissant but pasta salad not so good(so disappointed) Had macaroons and they were soft but not much flavor. I do have to agree with Erica that they are way over priced. $ 9.30 for a sandwich and small pasta salad… The sandwich by itself was 6.50, but it could be due to the location. IDE expect that at a resturant but not a small bakery. Meh

I go for the danishes. This review is for the DANISHES only. Yes, LB has lunch offerings, but they are forgettable at best. The breakfast danishes are where they truly shine. The assortment varies daily. Just stop in and try something. I like the raisin danish and the cheese danish. If you take these to work, you will be adored and lauded for your fine taste. I speak from experience here folks. Also, they make a chocolate cake with raspberry filling(not a lot of filling, just enough) that is really a standout. Generally, I hate cake– but not this one. Danishes + Chocolate Raspberry Cake = Happiness. I cannot vouch for anything else here.

This is just an easy go-to spot. It’s yummy, quick, and charming. Their forte is the bakery but I also enjoy their lunches, whether I’m eating there or picking it up to-go. My favorite is the tomato soup on a cold day with a fresh baguette! And any sandwich on a croissant is divine. There are two counters — one for the bakery and the other for the restaurant. If you are ordering lunch, at least check out the pastries. They’re so good! You might also want to check out the section for day old bread on sale. Its better and cheaper than you will find in the grocery store!
