Crispy, fresh fried chicken that wasn’t heavy or greasy. The biscuits are small portions but fluffier than they appeared. Coleslaw was cold and crisp but nothing special. We took it as carry out so reviewing the fries isn’t really fair because they never hold up when you take them further than an in-house table.

Jack Pirtle’s was some of the best fried chicken I have ever had. It was KFC beat by a mile. I especially enjoyed the tasty chicken gravy which was an accompaniment to the chicken, french fries and rolls. The happy hour price between 2 – 6 is a great bargain for a meal, sweet tea and apple pie. I’m normally not much of a fan of fast food but for a great southern take on a quick meal this does the trick. Well worth checking out if you are in Memphis.

No matter which Jack Pirtles I go to, the food is always great. Especially the chicken tenders. I’ve ate fried chicken tenders from what seems like every place that serves them. Not many places can match these chicken tenders. Do yourself a favor and try this place.

Forget KFC, try the greasiest, nastiest, best chicken in the ‘hood. A certain indie rock band swears by it, and often makes a spectacle of throwing it out at the audience. They offer the usual fried sides. Take out only.
