A nice little neighborhood convenience store with a large selection of items. Yes its a little pricey but its convenience store that is family run in downtown Memphis its not a Walmart. I think its a great little store for what it is.

Check the pricing. 2 bottles of water and 116oz sprite and the guy rung us up for $ 8.67. Watched him hit some buttons on the register, look at my wife, then press a couple more. BEWARETHETOURISTRIPOFF

We stopped here on New Year’s Eve because it was just too cold to stand on Beale Street for four hours. We had hoped to go to the Peabody deli for some hot chocolate but of course it was closed. This seemed to be our only other option and what luck! They had a hot chocolate machine. Boy it was strange, first a liquid came out, I thought it was milk but my mom seems to think it was water, and then the chocolate syrup. We opted for the small size which was a little over $ 2 but the cup wasn’t even completely full? Not that it mattered much, it wasn’t very good, but I chugged it down so I could go back out and brace the cold. I will say that the guy working there were very nice. Once we were finished we asked where the trash can was and he took the cups for us to throw away. I’ll say over all it was a warmer spot to be than out on the street!

Watch out for some of their rip off pricing! $ 4.99 for a 33oz bottle of water that is normally around $ 1 at Target! Did they just up their prices recently or something? I don’t remember it being this when I came here a while back. $ 13 for 2 bottles of water and a pack of gum is ridiculous to me.

While Second Street Shoppers doesn’t make smoothies(it sells them in bottles), it offers decent food for a convenience store. The one item that stands out is the chicken tenders, which are some of the best that I’ve found outside of a restaurant. They can be ordered either as a three-piece or six-piece, depending on your appetite. Given the size of the huge pieces, the three-piece is good enough for me. Although not quite as good as its neighbor Kooky Canuck(but better than the Flying Saucer), Second Street Shoppers’ tenders consist of chicken breast strips that are lightly breaded and seasoned with spices akin to fried chicken served at places like The Four Way. Most importantly, the chicken tenders are, well, tender. The tenderness is perfect, for the chewy meat seemingly melts in my mouth. Compared to other nearby places, the chicken tenders at Second Street Shoppers can hold its own. So far, I haven’t had anything else(other than potato skins that are better than T.G.I. Friday’s) that Second Street Shoppers serves like sandwiches and pizza slices. But even if the rest of the convenience store’s food offerings aren’t as good the chicken tenders, its prices are low enough for poor guys like me to afford. For example, three chicken tenders cost $ 3.54. If you add to it a small bag of chips and a soda, entire meal will cost less than six dollars. Granted, one can’t expect too much, but it works out well for those on a budget. However, I won’t use cost as the sole criteria for determining were to eat. But on days when I’m short on cash, Second Street is not a bad option. And if chicken tenders are on the menu, I know that I’m about to have a good day. To read the full review, go to

This place is pretty standard in the way of convenience stores. It is located on 2nd Street downtown, right across and kiddie corner from the Peabody. Aside from Walgreen’s on Main, it is the closest store you can walk to from the Peabody to pick up convenience store items. I like this place because I have gotten to know the little family that owns it. They are funny and friendly, and always knocking you off your feet with some random convo. I’m shocked at the things they remember from previous visits. I usually stop there once a day while I am at work to pick up a Vitamin Water and a Skor bar or perhaps partake in one of their deli creations or fried food goodies. If you find yourself in a pinch to pick up a souvenir you can do so at Second Street. They have a bunch of Memphis t-shirts, key chains, magnets and Elvis memorabilia– for much less than their Beale Street competitors I might add. Word to the wise– they have caller I.D. Which really makes no difference– aside from the fact that one of the gals I work with happened to call and see if they carried pregnancy tests(which they do should you find yourself in the immediate need to take one!) When she got there and walked in, he recognized her from our working establishment and immediately announced to the whole of the store«Hey! Hey YOU! You looking for pregnancy test?! You call right? Here they are right here.» I have never seen her turn such a bright shade of red in my life. Alright. SO the«friend» I speak of may or may not have been me. Just sayin’. ;)
