Old Gold

My (now) husband and I strolled into this jewelry store about 2 years ago when we were engaged because we needed to start shopping around for his wedding band. As luck would have it, he found a unique ring almost immediately after we entered the store. He tried it on and loved it. We received great customer service and the entire process was very seamless.
Just a couple weeks ago we were back in Mendocino and popped in the store to say hello. We inquired about the cost to engrave the ring and they did it complimentary since we purchased the ring there. It made our day. The owners truly are wonderful people.

The most beautiful wedding ring selection ever I’ve seen… nobody will have anything like yours if you get it at Old Gold in Mendo. The most creative/​seasoned artisons have a place in this store. The jewelry is museum quality and certainly on the level of workmanship and beauty that you would want to hand them down. I would love to have any piece in the store !!
If you are disappointed with the «reception» you are receiving… then complain. I am thinking that they would step up their game if they sense you will be acquiring a gem of theirs (meaning any special piece of their FINE selection). I have sensed the cold shoulder as well that’s why this revies is minus one star, but will go anyway to admire and study what I see… cause your not going to lay your eyes on such jewelry anywhere else that I know of. Just let them know you are there to appreciate and can’t resist looking at the goods and that it is one of your favourite stops in Mendo… what a treat !

They re-​sized a gold signet ring and buffed scratches off of a 35 year old wedding ring. The work on the signet was seamless and the gold wedding band looked like new.
Whenever my wife and I go to old gold we are treated professionally and courteously.

The owners have always been very nice, and very helpful. They educated us on settings, gold, diamonds etc. This was the reason we purchased our wedding rings at old gold. Beautiful store, and great employees.

I just came back from a lovely weekend in Mendocino with some girlfriends. Everyone and everything there was absolutely charming and delightful with the exception of this jewelry store.
While walking through the village we came upon Old Gold, the jewelry they had in their window display was gorgeous and I was excited to see more. Since they weren’t open yet I was eager to come back the next day and take a look in detail.
Next day, we came back to look at the same pair of earrings. As we enter the older lady pretty much ignored us. There was a man in the glass office in the back, he ignored us as well. We walked around looking at the beautiful selection of jewelry waiting for someone to engage us.
Finally, she asked if we needed any help and I immediately asked her to show me the pair of earrings in the display. She took them out but didn’t offer to tell me anything about the earrings. So I asked her the carat size of the stones, what the clarity of the stone was. Her response was, she didn’t know but that it could be SI1 or better. I commented that they were lovely, which was an invitation for her to tell me more. Nothing. Lastly, I asked the price. And that was it. I said thank you and we left. We all felt uncomfortable because it was clear that our our presence was not welcomed.
It’s always surprising how much retailers have an active hand in creating their own negative brand and in store experience.
I regret that I took the extra time to return to this store just to see their product.

I went to Mendocino with my boyfriend at the time (now fiancée) and we walked by Old Gold Jewelry and I had to pop in. The jewelry in the window was so unique and beautiful. We were not shopping for engagement rings but ended up finding our future one anyway. Maria was so helpful and friendly, not pushy in anyway. Old Gold is more of an art gallery in my opinion. If you want a truly unique piece of jewelry of the highest quality, then Old Gold is worth the drive!

Did a little look see on the last day of the trip. Although, I didn’t buy anything… I felt it important to mention it here. The shop is bigger than what it looks like from the outside. They have such beautiful things here. The jewelry is of the sort that could be passed on generation to generation. Heirloom quality.
I didn’t price anything… was afraid to in fact. One day though… one fine day I will come back to the Old Gold, and buy myself a wonderful little present.
