Just visited Panache. We visit the shop every year on our annual trip to Mendocino. It houses a wonderful collection of traditional and contemporary art – paintings, glasswork, sculpture, etc. Lyn, who works there, is always a delight. She remembers us each time we enter, even though we only visit once a year. We have bought many pieces over the years from this shop. We have never been disappointed.

The gallery has moved a couple of times(they were in rentals) and the owner, Lyn Hozel, now owns the 2 story house where the shop is. They have another store which is predominately jewelry about a block or 2 behind the larger Main Street store. I remember the older store over 15 yrs ago. It had alot more wooden artwork. This store has more vases, paintings, some jewelry. You have to climb a long flight of stairs to see the other artwork upstairs. The owner is very friendly. A larger selection of artwork can be found at the Highlight Gallery.

A gallery housing fabulous paintings, glasswork, woodwork, furniture, jewelry, jewelry boxes, and more. It’s a great place to browse and relax and appreciate fine works on a lazy day coastside. If I had to choose I’d say I preferred Highlight Gallery to Panache; the stuff Highlight showcases is far more contemporary, eclectic, and elegantly clean. Panache seems to favor a mix of artwork that is much more traditional, homey, and rustic — honestly a lot of stuff seemed dated. At Highlight there were at least a dozen things I wanted to purchase and take home, whereas at Panache I didn’t really feel any pangs of desire. I enjoyed browsing and relaxing in both galleries, however.
