There are large numbers of Chinese restaurants in any U.S. urban area and it’s hard to rank them. Even Menomonee Falls has a number of them. Harvey Moy’s, however, has a long-standing good reputation and the preparations are typically of good quality. Whether you eat in the elegant dining room or take a carry-out as we did this time(Chicken fried rice and Pork Egg Fu Yung), we always expect to enjoy our choices. Over the years, we have returned to Moy’s again and again, and we encourage friends to consider it as their local Chinese restaurant of choice.

We were vacationing and stopped here after a long drive. It’s a little different from the Chinese American restaurants we are used to. Food was good and plentiful. The one different thing — we didn’t get white rice with our meal. We ordered one of those family meals for 2 and there was fried rice. Honestly, I didn’t miss the rice. My only other minor quibble is with the crab rangoon — too much wonton for my taste, but otherwise it was great. Things we didn’t like: 1) kind of dark — a little more light would be nice; 2) confusion in who was supposed to be our waitress — once that was figured out, she was speedy; 3) a mess from previous diners at other tables sat there for almost the whole meal. Maybe they were short staffed? Not sure, but it was kind of unappetizing. To be fair, we showed up an hour before closing.

Powerhouse places who live on their past glory while putting out take-out level Chinese are sad things to watch.

We stopped in for dinner out of convenience. Our waitress was nice but trying way too hard to connect with us. She was loud even though the place was empty, and made(what I’m sure she thought were friendly and funny) awkward comments about how much we were eating and how my friend should finish everything on her plate, since my other friend was finishing hers. I wasn’t too hungry so I ordered the appetizer platter. It was basically a plate of a few different fried things and some meet. The meat was actually really good and cooked to perfection. The rest of it was a bit greasy, and the«chicken delight» was filled with cartilage and inedible. I was honestly surprised there wasn’t a bone inside after i attempted to take a bite. The spring rolls were pretty good though, so I had enough to not leave hungry at least…

We went there for lunch and everyone went with the buffet. The buffet offerings are very limited compared to others. Everyone raved about the egg rolls but that was the extent of what we liked. Nothing was outright bad but except for the egg rolls, nothing was worth coming back for. What really disappointed me was the donuts. I expected the usual slightly crunchy exterior with a soft fluffy interior, but what I got was essentially a sugar-coated dense biscuit. It didn’t taste bad but the textures were off.

Ya they need to get there act together. I used to love this place but it has changed in the last year ish and that is a shame cause i don’t see any need to go back after last sundays let down. It was for my birthday and they substituted peanuts for cashews and crappy canned or frozen mushrooms and pea pods for fresh ones. The other 4 people in the group had the same experience. What happened? It really sucks that they have done this because 2 years ago I would have given them 5+ stars and was one of my favorite places… don’t even get me started on how the eggrolls have changed .so sad really!

We ordered some take-out General Tso’s, orange chicken and some fried rice and were pretty disappointed in everything except the fried rice(which is pretty hard to mess up anyways). The food was mushy and did not seem fresh at all. Definitely will not be returning.

I’ve had lots of people tell me Harvey’s is the greatest place in town, others tell me it’s utter crap. The truth lies somewhere on the middle. First off, the service was fantastic. The waitress was attentive but not overbearing. The getting and handshake was a bit unexpected, but a nice touch. The food was quite good too. I had the Harvey Moy’s Chow Fun, and the meat and vegetables were nice and fresh. The sauce could stand a bit more flavour, bit it was buy no means unappetizing. Is it the best Chinese in the Milwaukee area? No. I’d give that to either William Ho’s or Golden Gate in Waukesha. However, it’s still a good option for sit down Chinese in the Falls.

My Chinese Nightmare Service: good server. Waited too long to be seated. Food: ordered potstickers for appetizer, which were heavily fried and couldn’t been further from the real thing. They heavily fry the meats to cover their small portions. Ordered almond crusted duck for main course.. heavily breaded and fried and once again there was barely any DUCK.. The rest of the plate was slop… syrup and chili flakes… made me feel sick the next day. Ambiance: standard out of date Chinese restaurant with creepy«authentic» music and décor. Overall: Don’t go!!! Overpriced and disgusting. If you want crap Chinese get takeaway from somewhere else.

I had high hopes, but our food was just nasty. We complained about the dishes, and the response was«Really? OK.». We paid $ 50 for a meal that was well below acceptable. There is no way we will go back and no way we’d ever recommend this place to anyone.

Over 10 years ago, I bragged about Harvey Moy’s. Now, ugh! My last meal there was Beef and Broccoli. While the portions were generous, it looked kind of greasy. After eating a small amount, and experiencing a heavy, greasy after-taste, I wished the portions had been a lot smaller because it was only going in a garbage bag, not a doggie bag. I remembered the décor as being brighter and cleaner in the past, so I felt disappointed with the dim ambiance. The manager did come out to greet us. He was very polite, but not as warm and friendly as you’d expect from an owner who’d been in the Falls for as long as he has. As this was truly my «last» visit to Harvey Moy’s, my next Asian food venture will be Main Moon in Sussex or the Great Wall in Brookfield.

My family and i have eaten at Harvey Moy’s for over 12 years and have NEVER had a bad meal here. Harvey and Linda and the staff are always wonderful. When I lived in Mequon I drove 30 minutes to Harvey’s and 30 minutes back to bring takeout to my family almost every Sunday and it was and is FANTASTIC! I now live in Scottsdale, AZ and there are NO great Chinese Restaurants. My first stop when I come back to Milwaukee is ALWAYS Harvey’s! I don’t know what all the negative comments are, but I’m telling you as someone who’s traveled around the world and lived in many cities it’s always, always great coming back to Milwaukee and having great, fantastic, marvelous Chinese Food! Come to Harvey Moy’s for the BESTCHINESEFOODINMILWAUKEE!!!

Don’t. Just don’t. The food used to be okay 10 years ago, but something changed somewhere out there in a Cantonese-style galaxy far, far away, and this place slipped over to the dark and questionable side. I used to live close to Harvey Moy’s, so close that my apartment’s designated parking lot was right next to their back door. I kid you not, I once heard gun shots behind their restaurant. Now, since I can not confirm nor deny the tastiness of those alleged gun shots, I end that statement there. I’ve known more than one employee who was treated poorly by the owners, and one who had a tip taken away from her.(Granted, she allowed this to happen, but what kind of restaurant owner would even try to take away one of his servers’ tips? HUH?!) I’ve eaten there and I’ve gotten sick. My friends have eaten there and they have gotten sick. I’VEKNOWNMOREPEOPLEWHOHAVEEATENTHEREANDGOTTENSICKTHANPEOPLEWHOHAVEN’T. There are plenty of other comparable Chinese restaurants in the area. You’re on Unilocal,so just go find one. Just DON’T eat at Harvey Moy’s.

Ok this get’s at least two stars because of the friendly staff. The place is old, dark and a bit dodgy. The food doesn’t taste like it was freshly made.

Harvey Moy’s has the best chinese food I’ve tasted in the Milwaukee area. It is much more flavorful than other chinese restaurants and for me, when judging asian restaurants, it’s all about the meat… and if any of you eat a lot of chinese food, you know what I mean. At Harvey Moy’s the meat is high quality and has a normal texture, flavor and cut… you will not be questioning what you are eating. I personally am not a huge chop suey fan, but their chicken chop suey is seasoned so well and their chicken fried rice is the best, again, mainly because it tastes, looks and eats like ‘real’ chicken and it’s big pieces, not square cubes. Harvey always comes around to greet customers and the staff is always friendly and fast.

On my continuing quest for the best Chinese buffet in the Milwaukee area we stopped on a Saturday right as the buffet opened for lunch. Dark, cool, walls covered with celebrity autographs the place is awesome. We were seated right by the buffet and basically were the only ones there for most of our meal. Soup: Egg Drop Soup. Flat out great. I had three little bowls = couldn’t get enough. They also have a hot-and-sour but its not my thing. I tried: Beef and Mushrooms, Sweet and Sour Chicken, Sesame Chicken and something called Charred Beef and Broccoli. B&M was pretty good. Sauce was not terribly flavorful — but I don’t like mushrooms so I think that tainted the sauce. S&S Chick. Good — great big pieces. The S&S Sauce was extremely light and sweet. Sesame Chicken. Not usually my thing, but very tasty. Charred beef: eh. A little too charred. They also had giant egg rolls on the buffet but I don’t partake so I can’t comment. I would go back BUT the lack of a really great beef dish AND no Crab Rangoon on the buffet are negatives for me on my buffet quest. The quest continues… One does not simply walk into any Chinese food buffet…

The Moy family has been in the restaurant business around the Milwaukee area for decades and it is apparent at Harvey’s in the menu and in the meals. This is the finest Chinese food in the area!

Dear Harvey, You will notice that I now am rating your restaurant 2 stars(down from 4 then 3 stars). When you use canned mushrooms(instead of fresh) and peanuts(instead of almonds) in the Chicken Almond Ding like you did to me the other night customers notice. Stop being cheap and use fresh ingredients and stop substituting other ingredients.
