Last night, my daughter and I ordered take out from Seven Star’s food and I must say, ITWASHORRIBLE! I could have just took my $ 40,00 for two entrée, walnut shrimp and chicken with broccoli and brown rice and given the money away or thrown my money in the trash. The walnut shrimp was overly dipped in batter which caused caked fried shrimp and the sauce was macerated in mayo the lid barely fit with all the content inside. The Chicken with broccoli overly salty. Never will we go there– what an absolute mess of a meal. We ended up throwing both entrees in the trash.

I don’t usually post reviews, but this place deserves a little help. I decided to try this place and ordered take out tonight. First, the place is clean and pleasant inside. I didn’t sit at a table but I did give the dining room a good once over. Second, the staff is friendly and helpful. The order was ready on time and everything was as expected. Third, the food was quite good. I ordered Sesame Chicken(a classic). There were no grisly pieces and the coating was done very well. I enjoyed it. The dish does not come with rice, so I was a little surprised when I didn’t get any and had to order it upon pickup. That said, they give you a lot of food. I’m going to get two meals out of this order, so that’s a pretty good deal. I know that not everyone will be able to do that, but I’m a pretty big eater. It’s a good value, in my opinion. I also tried the Egg Flower soup, which was also very good. So, if you want good Chinese food, that is, of the San Francisco(American) variety, this is a good place. If you want to compare it to high-end Asian cuisine or to Chinatown, you’re not being very fair. I will be going back again.

They should be called 2 stars. Cashew chicken was not even cashew chicken, had peanuts, too wet and so many fillers aka celery and carrots. Told waiter and she put raw cashews on top of the cooked chicken. Bamboo shoot pork too had so many fillers and not enough meat or bamboo Hand shaven noodles was good and tender, the beef was ok. Overall, if i had a choice, I would never got there again. Only if i was desperate for Sichuan food i would.

The food was really not that good. And it’s a bit pricey to pay six seven bucks for a tiny dish of appetizer(it’s really a tiny dish). Some dishes on the menu were ok, like noodles. But there’s nothing special about the food here. I was surprised that the owners were living in Beijing for so long but their food taste like Americans cook it.

To the haters and complainers — just don’t eat here, but your bashing is unwarranted and wrong. I’m with John R — what do you expect? This place is fine, more than adequate, for what it is. It’s in a strip mall on MI and has lunch specials for under 10 bucks — what do you expect?(Okay, I’m not delusional, it’s more like 3 – 4 star and not 5 but I’m trying to balance out the unfair 1 star ratings.) I know Chinese food — I’ve lived in China and have dined in some of the few Michelin-starred Chinese restaurants in the world — obviously there is a spectrum and this place is more than adequate for its niche. Do you go to McDonalds expecting a Daniel Boulud(or even Dick’s) burger? No. If you want something more«authentic» drive to Chinatown. If you want upscale, go to Wild Ginger or even O’Asian. If you want xiao loong bao, go to Din Tai Fung. And if you’re mad that Unilocal’s posting about this place’s schedule is wrong, that is Unilocal’s fault — not the restaurant’s. But stop complaining about this decent place that is the only Chinese place on the Island. And it delivers!(And the homemade noodles are actually well-above decent.) If this place is really closing and such closure is at all related to the unfair reviews on here, shame on you haters for helping bring down a family-owned, local business and one of the already limited dining options on the island. I’m mad at you for taking away one of my choices. Please stay, Seven Star.

I’m not sure what people expect, but some of the reviews seem unfair. This is not the place to go if you want trendy food or to impress your foodie friends. It’s a great place if you want good Chinese food in family run restaurant. I’ve dined here on many occasions and never been disappointed with food or warmth of the servers. The price is reasonable for what you get and for islanders, it’s very convenient.

We ordered hot and sour soup, potstickers, sesame chicken and beef with broccoli and requested no MSG. The sesame chicken tasted like it was covered entirely with soy sauce and nothing else and the beef with broccoli was bland. Even the rice didn’t taste fresh. We paid over $ 50 for two entrees, soup and one appetizer and should have just gone through the McDonald’s drive-thru next door for a better meal.

Dirty and outdated! Bland food! The other Chinese place on the Island(Han’s, I miss you!!!) has gone out of business so I decided to try Seven Star. I ordered pick up. When I arrived to pick up my food I was shocked at how dirty and outdated this place is. The carpet used to be pink but is now almost black in the traffic areas between the tables. I tried wanton soup, crispy fried chow mein and sweet and sour pork. The soup tasted like dirty dishwater and I could not eat it. The chow mein was edible but no real flavor to it. The sweet and sour sauce was so heavy on vinegar I couldn’t eat it and just had to eat the pork. The pork was ok. Everything here is just off. Also the staff was unfriendly. I really miss Han’s Garden… sniffle

Unilocal says it’s open for business but their website says they are closed on Mondays. Tried calling twice to see if they were open and kept getting the answering machine. I’m bummed, even though the reviews are medicore I was looking forward to some Sweet and Sour chicken and Almond Fried Chicken combo meal. I am at a job position where I can not leave and nothing close by sounded good and needed something delivered.

What happened??? I would give this zero stars if I could. We moved to the Island 5 years ago and this was our go to place for Chinese food. We used to love the garlic chicken and the BBQ Pork fried rice. We started to patronize Hans Kitchen which has since gone out of business. We revisited 7 Star last week and what a disappointment. The garlic chicken should be called zucchini flavored with garlic. There was a very small amount of chicken in the dish and huge chunks of zucchini. The dish was barely edible I understand that there has been an ownership change over the last 5 years but if this is the best that you can do, you shouldn’t be in the restaurant business. Save your money and find another restaurant when you are in the mood for Chinese.

Super delicious food we went right after watching the Blue Angels on the I-90 bridge. Only complaints… Small plates & expensive prices. It is Mercer Island though so what can you expect?

It moved here from New York and thought I’d give it a try. Very expensive. Not great flavor. Had to order rice with my entrée whereas I’m used to that being included in the price. Stars given for convenient location and large portion of meat for meal.

I never thought you could create Chinese food as bland and boring as this place, but I guess you can! Their prices are unjustified.

The fact that this place has more than one star boggles my mind. Had to wait there for like 5 – 10 minutes before another customer screamed for someone help when someone finally came out from the back room, Where I won’t even go into detail about what happened next. But anyway… The Food was cold, the soup was almost like salt water, the potstickers where soggy soggy soggy and the sweet and sour chicken — How is it even possible to mess up sweet and sour chicken?! Maybe the food would have been slightly better but it felt like I was sitting out for a long time. I’m fat I love food how do you not even satisfy me I’m so easy! Haha. I’m very disappointed because my partner always tells me he doesn’t want to go here because he doesn’t like the food. And I understand why…

My wife and I ordered two simple dishes — Shrimp with Steamed Vegetables and Chicken in Szechuan Garlic Sauce. Both were poor at best. The steamed vegetables was basically big slices of cabbage with one or two pieces of broccoli and baby corn thrown in. The chicken dish was primarily water chestnuts. Seriously, the dish should’ve been called Water Chestnuts in Szechuan Garlic Sauce With a Bit of Chicken Sprinkled In. The flavor was alright, but overall, I was extremely underwhelmed. Especially for the price.

I have been coming to this restaurant for 3 – 4 years now and I used to love the Beijing Dumplings. Anyways, I hadn’t been here in a while and just returned and they changed the recipe for the dumplings and it’s horrible!!! They used to be primarily pork, now they are primarily green stuff(maybe spinach?) with little bits of pork mixed in. Since I didn’t like my dumplings, my friend offered me some of his cashew chicken, but sadly it was not good either. Then we tried to use an entertainment book coupon. The coupon was buy one, get one free. The only restrictions written on the coupon were the expiration date and that it could not exceed $ 12. But when we got there they put all kinds of restrictions and said we couldn’t order certain meals. They basically told us that if we wanted to use the coupon, we’d need to change our orders! I really feel like those restrictions should have been printed on the coupon or that they should have honored what the coupon said. So basically I drove all the way from North Seattle to Mercer Island to get some of my favorite dumplings, which ended up tasting awful and got hassled about the coupon. Completely unimpressed! On a positive note, they have a huge parking lot and they deliver.

Seven Star is your typical Americanized Chinese food. There seems to be only two of these spots on Mercer Island. The other one was not good at all, so I wasn’t expecting much of this place. I was pleasantly surprised. It’s not gourmet food by any means but it’s decent. The pan fried dumplings(guo tie) were standard and decent, but a bit expensive — 4 pieces for $ 6.25… The hot and sour soup was not bad, tons of black pepper so the soup was really spicy! The Szechuan garlic chicken was okay. There was a lot of baby corn on the dish, which I liked. The dish was not that spicy. The entrée prices here seem rather high though. Most of the entrees I saw were at minimum $ 10, with a lot of dishes around $ 14. This price seems really steep for Americanized Chinese food. I think rice was extra though, which is stupid because rice is practically free in bulk… The server was really nice and friendly. He does speak Mandarin Chinese.
