Great food great service! What a delightful experience!!! We asked for suggestions and everything we ordered was excellent!!! Beef ribs for those that don’t eat pork had a dry rub that was delicious! The brisket and jalapeño sausage were wonderful too!!! Everything is handmade at the restaurant. I will definitely stop here again anytime I’m driving through Dallas! :)

Beautiful building. Had a late lunch with the wife on Sunday. Very quiet while there, only 1 other table. Meat lacked much smoke flavor. Sides were pretty well as well. Our server did not know anything about the menu and seemed more interested in sharing her time chatting with others employees. U would live to see this place succeed but it’s going to need some help.

Not good. Came here with a Groupon, aka kiss of death… and yep. I think they are on the road to out of business. For starters, it’s a Sunday at lunch time and I might have actually seen a tumbleweed. Virtually empty, more employees than customers. I ordered 2 lbs of meat, beef ribs and chopped brisket. When I got home, turns out they are beef back ribs instead of the short ribs I was hoping for. If done right no problem, but these were chewy, no bark, and not tasty. The brisket, sliced lean instead of chopped fatty. Dry ugly nasty tasting brisket man. Pass! I didn’t eat either meats past the taste. Veggies looked good, but didn’t try them Deserts I chose banana pudding and brownie. Brownie kind of dry, reminds me of box mix. Ok I guess, but I’m not a brownie person. The pudding had no visible or even taste of real bananas. It actually is at least 50% vanilla wafers easily and the rest pudding mix. This was all after i got home because I had planned to share this meal with family. Before I left, I decided to eat a sandwich at a table. Ordered a 2 meat with pork ribs and sausage. The sausage is actually ok, though I saw nor tasted no jalapeño in it as the sausage title suggests. The pork ribs were moist and tender, but the rub was mushy on the surface… no bark… no nice smoke flavor. Bun was good though. This location is always changing owners. it just sucks. It’s a death trap for whomever tries to set up a good spot. Sorry BBQ Tavern fans, but I regret coming here. Should have saved my calories for much better elsewhere.

Wow. This place is really strange. First, the setup is extremely awkward. Is it a bar or a cafeteria? It’s both! You go through a cafeteria style line for your food. Then when you’re seated you can make a separate trip to the bar and order a drink. The staff here is also strange. The manager seemed very concerned about his staff being on top of things(seriously, just leave us alone for a second, we promise we are fine) but while we were ordering in line he held all of them up while making our food so he could ask them some random question.

My family and I are new to the area and decided to try this spot. There’s 6 of us and all of us walked away happy with our meal. The service was great and nice place to hang out.

This place needs to go on the bar rescue show, I had such high hopes when I found this place but they were closed when I found it and the building looked pretty new so I figured they hadn’t opened for business yet. Turns out they’re just closed Tuesday’s and Wednesday’s so I came in on Thursday and the place was still empty… I went in anyway and ordered the brisket, it was probably good at one point but I’m assuming since they didn’t have any customers it sat under the heat lamp for a while and dried out. The interior has a pretty cool theme with an old western/sports bar theme going on. The décor makes you want to like the place but the dead atmosphere and food make it kind of hard.

Wanted to try those place out and was excited too see it was supposedly open until 2am. Well I call to place my order only to be told that had closed 55 mins earlier??? Then why are you answering the freaking phone? Definitely need to update your hours… Probably won’t ever try eating here again.

Great BBQ Chop Sandwich, love the bbq tacos for $ 1.50 they are good, they have an all you can eat BBQ for $ 15.00 on Sunday Brunch. They play Cowboys most of the time unless they have the saxophone guy going with the karaōke music in the background. Bathrooms need some love, plenty of parking and shopping is close too.

I am giving this place a 5 star based on their staff. Very nice, helpful and attentive. We got there a bit late on Friday night, about 8:30pm. The location was a bit hard to find, but they do have large signage on the building so that helps. The interior was very clean, we liked that a lot. It was very quiet when we got there, a bit surprising since most BBQ places are full at that time. Must be the newness of the business. Food was very good, but what I noticed was the A/C was a bit on the colder side, and that tend to cool down the food a lot quicker. The wait staff kept bringing us refills on the yummy yeast bread, so that sealed the deal for us. Come give this place a try and help out your local small business.

I would give this place a minimum three stars simply because the Groupon I used entitled me to 2lbs of meat, 2 pints of veggies, and 2 desserts. That means you can feed a family of four for $ 30. Trust me, it is worth the $ 30 shot. I give this place four stars because all the food we purchased was good. To wit, we ordered BBQ beef ribs, which were the best part of the meal and, excepting Big Al’s, are among the best beef ribs in Dallas. They are good. They are also smaller for beef ribs, but I have no major problems with the size. We also had the beef brisket. Brisket is the reason most people go to BBQ joints, and if that is your reason for coming, I would give them a try. Another reviewer summed up the experience best: they are not great, but they are also not bad. I would say the brisket was 3⁄5; the flavor is there but the brisket itself is lean and kind of – but not terribly — dry. The french fries and macaroni and cheese were dynamite! The fries taste like McDonald’s fries, and the Mac and cheese taste like a hearty Velveeta(I mean that in a good way!). They have the best sides of any BBQ I have ever visited. I salute them for it. We has peach cobbler for dessert. It was good. Solidly good. 4⁄5. The place was dead and it was dinner time, and I am a little befuddles as to why. The food is good, they have great coupon deals, and the staff is friendly. My guess is that the business suffers from a very poor location. It is hidden away in a huge strip mall with Ross clothing and Petsmart. If they were, say, on Gus Thommason or Towne East, they would do more business. Also, in all honesty, I would not spend $ 50 — the regular price for the meal without the Groupon — because, though the food was good, it was not THAT good. I will certainly give this place another look. I would advise you try this place, especially if you have a coupon deal. Oh, and the cornbread muffins are the bomb and they wrapped to go food very well. If I could give this place 4.5 stars, I would. I just cannot give it 5 with the brisket and the normal price point.

I don’t give out 5 starts easily, but this Q rocks. I have no idea why I’ve never eaten here before, but apparently I’m not the only one who needs to gives this place a try. I ordered my family’s meal with a wonderful groupon deal on Saturday(to go). As I pulled up, I became concerned because the joint was dead. Feeling adventurous, and let’s face it I already paid for it, I walked into BBQ heaven and took home my treasure. The sliced brisket was exactly the right balance of moist but not greasy. The sauce was the best I’ve ever had, it’s balance of sweet and tangy was just right and it had a bold flavor along with a depth that’s hard to explain. I cook and I’m hard to please but I tip my hat to the dude that cooked my meal. The sides were cool, banana pudding needed some help, but dang that brisket was AWESOME…

I came for lunch during a weekday armed with my LivingSocial voucher. I pulled into the parking lot to find it empty. Hmm… could the tavern be closed? I walked up to the front door and lo and behold, the door was open. I walk into the dark tavern, not a single person in sight. I notice a cafeteria style ordering area and still no one. I glimpsed into the kitchen and you guessed it, no one in sight. Finally I walk towards the end of the tavern to find two mythical creatures on their phones. Ah, the workers of thee BBQ Tavern! Ok onto the food. I ordered their beef sandwich lunch($ 5.99) that comes with two sides. The food may look questionable as it appeared to be untouched but don’t be fooled, it was flavorful and delicious. Their sweet tea is sweet. This helped balance out the perfectly salted meat sandwich. The sides were good but nothing to brag about. Service was in line with southern hospitality. I would definitely come back again.

Lets be real… Is this the best BBQ in the world? No… but it is DAMNGOOD! We ate at BBQ Tavern Saturday and the food was great. We got to try all the cuts of meat and the BBQ sauce was on point.(It’s True BBQ, just look for the smoke rings in the meat). I made the drive from Grand Prairie to use a Living Social coupon. I will be back even if i dont have a coupon, so the people in Mesquite need to step up and check this spot out because the food is good and service was very friendly also. I will be back when I’m on that side of town,(Pork Ribs A+, Beef A-, Sausage B+, Chicken B+, BBQ Sauce A, Beef Ribs B)

Went to the FREE car show Sunday at the BBQTAVERN. My husband and the kids really enjoyed checking out the cars And of course our fav the specialty BRISKETQUESO. yum!!! A MUSTHAVE! Surprisingly a couple was there renewing their wedding Vows. We assumed maybe they met there :-? Anyhow, it was a lot of fun, a lot of people, and a lot of cars. It made for a fun spontaneous Sunday. FYI the food is good, but taste a little of everything to find your own«fav»! The Brisket QUESO and the Chopped beef or chicken sandwich is mine!

I went here yesterday(11÷30÷13) and desperately wanted to love it because several of my co-workers have been telling me to try it for the longest and I’ve procrastinated for months but I finally tried it and… it sucked. Now, I’ll never ban a eatery because of one bad day but this was pretty bad beef. The sausage was average to good. The sides, nothing I couldn’t have done myself — not worth bragging about. If there was a Rudy’s in Mesquite I would never consider going to Bbq Tavern.

Saturday I went to BBQ Tavern(open minded as usual) in Mesquite Tx, and I have to tell you folks; I was impressed. The ribs were exceptionally good, and I agree with Daniel H’s review about the owner(and would like to know where Daniel H. has found better ribs) Tim who was very nice. Although, Tim did jokingly threaten to cut me off from future ribs for putting bar-b-que sauce on the ribs. Heh the bar-b-que sauce is really really good, so, why not? Not only the ribs are good here, the rest of the menu is as well. The atmosphere was playful and the staff was excellent and friendly!

I went here on a Friday night and sadly it was very empty which was good for us because the service was amazing, and the BBQ was acceptionally good.

BBQ Tavern is a great place to hangout. It’s not the best BBQ I’ve ever had, but it’s better than any chain BBQ restaurant for sure and it’s actually pretty good for the most part. The best part about it is that it’s Tavern, so they serve alcohol and they’re open late. I got the chance to meet the owner, who personally took great care of us. He’s a very nice man who is obviously very involved in his business. You can genuinely tell that he cares about his customers and employees. One thing I really like about BBQ Tavern is that it’s open as late as midnight on weekdays, and I believe 1 or 2am on the weekend. But what makes them stand apart is that if they are open, the kitchen is open. IDK about you but I can’t stand going to a «Bar & Grill» or «restaurant» that closes the kitchen at 9 or 10pm and keeps the bar open all night with no food selection or at minimum unappetizing appetizers. Being that this was my first visit, I really wanted to try a bit of everything. So my roommate and I decided to order the super sampler platter and share it. But then catfish caught my eye so we ordered a big catfish basket as well. The catfish was a little fishy, and a little dry. But it’s a BBQ restaurant, so what did I really expect? The slices beef was really good, but nothing special. It was just good old fashioned sliced beef. Now there were several variations of sausage, which all looked great, but I got the basic sausage link and it was very flavorful with just a hint of spicy. The pulled pork was VERY good… it seems the more I try pulled pork at restaurants lately the more disappointed I am but BBQ Tavern knows what they’re doing with the stuff. The ribs were above average, lots of meat and very tender with just the right amount of sauce. The side items were about average. The french fries were good, the hushpuppies(came with catfish) weren’t that great, but the tartar sauce was good. There was a decent selection of veggies, and they got the job done. I’ll definitely be back, but I recommend it not just for the food, but the whole package. There is better BBQ out there, but it closes at 9 and doesn’t have a liquor license.
