This is very average Chinese food. Do NOT be fooled — just because they are supposedly operated by the people from Hot Wok on Veterans Blvd, the food is NOT the same at all. Tricky parking. You can eat in or take out. You have to grab your own condiments from the counter to put in your to-go bag. I don’t plan on going back.

New Chef, and I think new mngt too. Love the food now. I religiously get the veggie fried rice and ask them to make it spicy. It’s so darn yummy. Highly recommend this place if you want a quick bite of chinese to go, but need veggie or spicier options than panda express.

I fight this losing battle every time I spend an extended period of time away from home(New York). I drive around looking for Chinese restaurants in hopes of finding that one awesome take-out joint wherever I am. I don’t know why I do it, because I rarely am successful. Although, when I’m away from home for a while, even the most mediocre Chinese food will hold me over. What can I say? Part of being Chinese — Taiwanese if we want to get technical — means that I can be pretty ghetto sometimes, so give me a bowl of white rice some meat and veggies in a gooey brown or clear sauce and I’ll at least satisfy the need for oriental starch and protein. Throw some good hot sauce over that and I’ll be even happier. China Hut is one of the newer take out joints around Metairie, and it’s really not any better or worse than the couple I’ve tried already. Surprisingly what I ordered — Bean Curd Szechuan Style — was bland, which in my opinion is forgivable. I’d prefer that to the alternate and more common ‘extremely salty I can feel the MSG dry out the moisture in my body’. All in all, I would order from here again because I need occasional Chinese food to survive, not because it is so delicious I can’t stop eating it. Hardly. The prices are DIRTCHEAP — their lunch specials are all under $ 6.00, but it doesn’t come with soup or an egg roll. Each sold separately.
