OMG the sushi is so fresh and delicious here. I got some rolls to go while I’m in town, and was surprised the rolls are big and cheap! Such a good deal, I will be back!

Favorite sushi in the area! Always fresh, always delicious. There are so many special rolls to choose from. Great staff and service. I’m never disappointed when I come here.

Quite pleased with this find on Unilocal for an early dinner. Sits right off Causeway south in a little strip center and looks a bit sketchy from outside but don’t let that deter you at all. Inside the ambience and vibe are pretty standard but clean and inviting enough. Menu is pretty varied and they have pages of rolls to order. My only complaint is trying to match the ones with descriptions to the ones with prices as that is quite a chore. Tempura appetizer for $ 6.50 was huge and being some I had to box up half. Breading a bit heavier than some places but hot and fresh. They also have a board with some off menu specials and I spied a Kimchee Squid Steak and ordered it. Nice dish for $ 7.95. One roll, Uptown Roll and Barq’s, club soda and small hot sake. All was very good. They do have Mochi and I ordered but they were out this time. Another reason for a return visit. Service was Asian restaurant friendly and functional. If you like rolls then roll on in and explore the menu.

Sushi is great. Best hibachi that you will find in the Metairie area. Service is always great. Parking definitely sucks on a busy night but it’s not a deal breaker. My family and I go all the time.

The nigiri sushi wasn’t good. The textures of the various fish were just off. The miso soup tasted dilute. I’ve had better Japanese food in a city of 25,000 people so it’s inexplicable how New Orleans is so bleh. The chicken katsu salvaged the day. Two tasty pieces in one order. Expensive for what you get though. Service was friendly. Menu is a confusing list of way too many rolls.

When dining for sushi in Metairie, our go to place is Shogun. It was good Friday and shogun was closed the entire weekend so we tried Uchi. To a nice surprise, sushi chef Benny was working, who we knew from a previous place years ago. We ordered a sashimi plate and Benny made a special roll for us that isn’t on the menu. The food was fresh and tasted great. The restaurant on the other hand could use a remodel make over. We returned 2 weeks later and had the baked seafood advocating, another Benny special creation that’s not on the menu, and octopus and yellow tail sashimi. Again, everything was amazing and super fresh. The sushi chefs are very attentive and want to make sure everyone is happy.

My favorite sushi restaurant because of the generous fish portions, fresh taste, and reasonable prices. The owner is personable and remembers my boyfriend and I everytime. Uchi is a little brighter than other sushi restaurants and there aren’t any booths, but the atmosphere here is very family oriented and the food is really so so GOOD!!! I recommend to everyone.

This is more a review about poor service. I went here for lunch and ordered the bento box(comes with soup and a choice of sushi) — the waitress rushed away before even asking what kind of soup or sushi I’d like. On the way to another table I asked her to make sure I got crunchy rolls. When our food came, I was brought clear soup, I prefer miso… thats fine. But then when I got my bento box, the sushi was incorrect. Long story short, make sure the server listens to you when you order. The food was otherwise good.

I’ve been a frequent patron of this restaurant since long ago when it used to be Little Tokyo. Most of the chefs from the original Little Tokyo remain and I’ve noticed this in the cooking. The prices have continued to rise over the years but they are still competitive. The sushi rolls are good — they have a decent selection and the rice is soft with the filling pleasing. I’m a big fan of the Chicken Katsu, which is deep fried chicken strips with a sweet sauce served with salad and soup. The bento boxes are also excellent and are your traditional combination box meal. The restaurant is a large open space, traditionally decorated. They also have hibachi as well. I haven’t found a five star Japanese restaurant in New Orleans yet, but message me if you have suggestions or check out my page to see if I’ve found one!

This has become my new go-to Sushi place in New Orleans/Metairie. When you walk in, find your own seat/table. We made the mistake of waiting at the door for a hostess(there isn’t one). We enjoyed sitting at the sushi bar. We tried the Ahi Tuna Tower, Metairie Roll, LSU Roll, and the Spicy Salmon roll. My favorite was the LSU roll. Has everything I love about sushi — fresh, flavorful fish, a bit of crunch, great crab, and it was pretty :). Service was fast. We have tried take-out as well and it was ready in less than 15 minutes on a Saturday night. So glad this restaurant is in my neighborhood! Also to note — parking may be an issue on a busy night. We had to parallel park in the adjacent neighborhood on a busy Friday night.

Having been a regular at the old Little Tokyo, I hadn’t gotten around to trying Uchi. I was very pleasantly surprised. They renovated the interior opening it up giving it a much more inviting and upscale feel. At the far left are hibachi tables that were busy all night. The sushi bar is in the same place as it was in the old restaurant. The menu has quite a few new items. We tried the asparagus salad, and noodle salad which were really good, and the gyozas which tasted like the frozen ones you can get anywhere. I had the sushi and tempura dinner. The tempura was done well, but I was disappointed in the sushi and the roll. The roll had far more rice than filling and the sushi fish was sliced very thin over large balls of rice. The prices for individual pairs of sushi were $ 5 and up. In terms of sushi Saki Don is a much better option at 20% less cost with much larger pieces of fish and less rice. However, I will definitely go back to Uchi for some of the appetizers and for the upbeat lively atmosphere.

I do love this little sushi/hibachi restaurant! Johnny, the owner, has branched out and make a spectacular restaurant all his own. I’m just sorry it took me so long to get here! The quality of the fish itself and the sushi chefs is on par. I’ve actually followed one of the sushi chefs to Uchi, and that’s how I wound up trying it for the first time. They offer many different types of sushi rolls here. You will find the standard rolls available everywhere, and some new and unique ones. I’ve tried a few so far and have not yet been disappointed. I have yet to try the hibachi, but I’m really looking forward to it. I’ve also recommend this restaurant to a handful of people and I will continue to do so hoping they will enjoy the food as much as I have. I’m going to stop writing now so I can go get some sushi!

This is the place to go for sushi in Metairie. The fish is fresh, the rolls are creative and well put together, the sides are(mostly) great, the prices reasonable, and the service is friendly. The only«complaint» I have is that the service can sometimes be a bit slow, but sitting at the sushi bar resolves that problem. Definitely felt like I found a «hidden gem» the first time I came here, and many of my friends have thanked me for sharing the secret with them!

We have been here several times now for Hibachi. Each time has been great. The food is great. Each time we have had a different Chef. Each time, they have been good. We probably bug the crew because we are only two and happen to arrive when no one else is doing hibachi, but they treat us well anyway.

I am blown away at this place, and surely not in a good way. Server approached table, took order, repeated it back to me and walk away. I ordered a crunchy roll with no asparagus and my friend ordered the Metairie roll without avocado. When we received our food, both had the veggies we specifically asked to be removed. The server looks at both of us and said, «I told him no veggies! Can you take it out? It’s very easy to remove.» And she set the plates down and walked away. I could not believe it. I will not be returning.

Simply put: in the plethora of sushi restaurants around, this is a perfectly fine one. I would not leave my neighborhood just to come here, but if in the area and craving sushi, this is an option to satisfy that craving. Service was fast, portions agreeable, and the sushi was very fresh. Owner had clear rapport with regulars. Specials are posted on wall, and staff is friendly and willing to describe the different options Nabeyaki was good, and the spicy tuna rainbow roll wasn’t bad either. Ordered the tuna tower special– a base of seasoned sushi rice stacked with crab, avocado and a tuna poke salad on top. very satisfying

I want to start of by saying if I could eat here at least once a week I’ll be a happy girl. This place never disappoint and the sushi are always fresh. I’ve never been let-down no matter what time or day I come here. The people here are great and welcoming. They always joke and make people laugh also express interest in each customer making them feel like family. They offer hibachi here too, but I never got the chance to try out that side of the restaurant; I’m too busy stuffing my face with sushi. I would probably give the hibachi area a try in the future if I’m not craving sushi, but don’t count on it. Give this place a shot if you’re ever in the area.
