As most people who know me know, I have a weakness for the Dominican Republic. It’s… true. I’m getting better but for a while, not so good. As Coko whined in her nasally soprano, «I don’t know what it is that you’ve done to me. But it’s caused me to act in such a crazy way. Whatever it is that you do when you do what you’re doing. It’s a feeling that I don’t understand. ‘Cause my heart starts beating triple time with thoughts of [loving] you on my mind…» As any sane person knows, when SWV can encapsulate your feelings on a matter, you’re in trouble. Big trouble. What’s the deal with this preamble? I needed to take a break from jaunting down to the DR every few months because I was getting in deep. But what to do when the cause and cure is [redacted]? You find a similar outlet. My buddy and I, literally, stumbled upon Paradis one dark, rainy Friday in Wynwood. It had recently opened, there was no sign but there were some [redacted] that provided an incentive for walking in. I’d been looking for a place like this. From the moment I walked in, I felt like I was in SD. The music was tight. The people were doing their thing. And, the Presidentes were ice cold. I don’t know when/how a bar from my sorta homeland(I’m every ethnicity) made it to Wynwood, but it’s about time. There’s a food menu I need to try — especially the sancocho(given my penchant for late nights and rough mornings) but I can’t seem to get past the eye candy, cold beer, cool vibe, and devilish impulses the place brings out in me. I have never seen much of a crowd here but I’m hoping that’s because I’m there at off times. It would be a shame to lose this slice of SD/NYC in Miami’s(former) East Harlem.

Wonderful little spot at the edge of Wynwood with great simple homemade meals and nice art work on the walls and ceiling, too! This is a true mom & pop and is typically cash only so come prepared to eat well!

Had a chicken sandwich; there were no menus and i wanted something quick to go. They sauted the chicken and onions fresh, and included a weird(but delicious) sauce on the side. $ 7.50. Totally friendly and welcoming place. All in all pretty awesome. Will be returning.
