I’ve actually been to this location a ton over the years. The older staff is usually super nice. The younger girls however need to learn from their elders. No GF rolls. Very limited options for GF only sashimi, nigiri or edamame. They just included GF soy sauce to menu.(Doesn’t help if everything else has it in it HELLO) Overall I think the he menu needs to be revamped for all the establishments to include more raw roll options and GF rice/noodle options. If you are ordering during a heat game/be prepared to wait or if you are calling in takeout– be prepared to wait on hold.

Just ordered in from here. Do not like it as much as the other sushi places around me, but it is the only one who delivers to my area.

Loved the sushi. my sister and mom went for a girls night. all the rolls we ordered were great and innovative. I’m giving this 2 stars because of the service. The only excuse for it would be if it was her first day. It wasn’t that busy… tuesday night. We watched as our food sat at the counter for at least 15 mins waiting to be served. Then we asked for eel and spicy mayo sauce. The waitress kept forgetting, finally on the THIRD time asking she brought some. I checked in on Unilocal and for doing so you get a free lava shrimp which is very tasty. When we got our bill the lava shrimp had been charged in addition to an extra roll that we hadn’t ordered. We had to ask her to fix the bill. Our waters were never refilled… I’ve eaten at various sushi maki’s in miami and this was by far the worst service!

This is my second review of the Sushi Maki chain, the first being the South Miami location. This review is for the Palmetto Bay location. It seems to be a whole different restaurant. It is larger and airier. When you enter you get a group greeting from all the employees within earshot. Our waiter was courteous and attentive. As we were mulling our menu choices another young handsome waiter made some helpful suggestions(Quick aside: whenever my wife and I dine with either one of our daughters, we seem to get a lot more attentiveness from young male servers!) So, for appetizers we had edimame with a great chili dipping sauce and a yummy Lava Shrimp(free with a Unilocal check-in!). We went with the waiter’s suggestions which were raw rolls: «The Fifty» and the«Rainbow». Both were absolutely delicious, fresh, and generous. The total experience was great and I can say this Sushi Maki is definitely my go-to for sushi in my neighborhood

I tried placing an order. I had to call five times before they even picked up. This was Sunday at noon, when they couldn’t have been very busy. I try to add something to my order, and I had to call 10 times before they finally picked up. Terrible management, and the food was mediocre.

They pay attention when you tell them if you’re allergic. They told me that my order would be 15 – 20 minutes. It arrived at 16. The coral reef dish is to die for.

So I’m not sure how we ended up here… but I’m sure we will not likely return. We sat at sushi bar(we were two of three humans at the bar); no greeting from sushi chefs. I actually yearned for the light banter with the sushi chef that indirectly makes you feel safe enough to eat whatever he prepares.(Missing Sushi Capitol in DC). Checked Unilocal… there’s a check-in special. Asked waitress, she says that item is not longer available and offered no replacement.(Interesting because now you know I’m on Unilocal; but you don’t care) I’m ready to leave but my date is a believer in redemption. We could not REDEEM this dang Unilocal check-in but I digress. We order the edamame and a sushi boat. I ask for a roll that is free of avocado and imitation crab meat(why do people serve this stuff?). Sushi chef speaks — up charge of 2.00 for a JB roll. Wow — really. Sushi boat comes with soup or salad. We both asked for salads… waitress returns and says we do not have any salads tonight… just soup. Wow — really. Brings our soups… sip, sip. Look up and there’s a tray of salads headed to another table. Wow-really…again, I’m ready to leave; but my date has a more forgiving spirit. We eat most of the sushi boat… edible but nothing great. Sushi chefs never asked us if we enjoyed, if we disliked — nothing, they do not care about customer service because they are watching the basketball game now) We excuse ourselves because this is clearly a restaurant in name only… they practice saying no, false advertising and serve as a haven for pseudo-sushi chefs that like watching basketball on big screen TV. I cannot get that hour of my life back; but if I can save just one Unilocaler than my sacrifice will not be in vain.

Good sushi but not the best I’ve had. The bento box for dessert though… WOW! Try the tempura red velvet with vanilla ice cream inside — AMAZING!!!

What a joke it was to order take out from this place. We ordered from both the sushi and from the restaurant next door same owners. The portions are super small the service not so great and we ask for eel sauce for our sushi and they want to charge you for it. The rolls we ordered take eel sauce and they didn’t even add it. This is one place we won’t be spending any more money at

Popped in for dinner last night. Great edamame and sushi. Loved the coral reef and jb roll. The tempura was less than average, small shrimp and lacked flavor. Reasonable bill though. I think will be back just wont get tempura again.

Second time dining in(with 1 order to go), I can safely say the food matches the ambiance. Great food prep, even on Thai Red Curry. However, don’t bother ordering the shrimp(I counted only 7 of them); stick with the chicken, it is much better than the version offered at other restaurants. Go there for a reasonably-priced culinary experience. You will find similar pleasure also at the one in South Miami, West Kendall, or Coral Gables. Bön appetit!

The food was good but the service was horrible. I called to make a pick up order and wasn’t even put on hold. The phone was just picked up while the lady was taking another order. I waited and then the lady had an attitude. Her name was Arnel. Not sure if I’ll be back anytime soon.

Growing fan of sushi maki over the years. I wrote this local restaurant off many years ago as being too Americanized and not that good at that. I have really liked their efforts to revamp the menu and to continually experiment, test and change their dishes. So from their new menu there are a few faves that I like to return to when I want something tried and true — but definitely have an open mind and try any of their new dishes. Hosopops — deep fried rice rolls with salmon and cream cheese drizzled in eel sauce. *drool* You’ll order these to share and will regret it as soon as you eat the first one. Then it’s every man for themselves — basically order one for each next time. Spicy pika veggie crunch — light, crunchy, summery with just a little spice. Bacon fried rice — there is nothing else to say in that description of awesomeness. Steak noodle salad — cold, light, refreshing, sweet but yet still filling. It’s a salad so it’s still healthy right? Healthier than any taco salad you’ll ever have.

Just had lunch there with a friend of mine. Ordered a cup of original bubble tea. After few sips I felt so weird and asked my friend to taste it as well. after she tasted and screamed, it’s moldy! I noticed there was a coin size mold inside the sealed cup and went to the bathroom immediately and vomited. The store manager came to me and waived the bill and also gave us a 20% coupon to ask us to go back again. My answer is NEVEREVER. Altho manager apologized several times, this moldy bubble tea already disgusted me. And it should never happen to a restaurant or any restaurant. Yuck!

Loved the fried doughnuts presented so artistically! Just posted a picture. The dragon rolls are fresh and superb! No picture, ate them too fast!

Stopped in for lunch. Did the miso soup, tuna tataki and seaweed salad. It was all delicious. This place may be a chain but for a business traveler it’s a good option in this area for a quick, friendly lunch. Service is extreme smiley, chef seemed nice(unlike other reviews mention), and the portion of tuna was quite generous. Not to mention, high quality. Not sure how this place has such horrible reviews but I’m giving it an extra star because I was happily surprised. It’s honestly a solid 3.5 and more than good enough for lunch.

My boyfriend and I were looking for a new sushi place to try and we settled on either Sushi Maki or one other. After perusing the menus, I decided in Sushi Maki for one primary reason… boba! I love boba and haven’t found many places close to me that have it. Whenever I see it on a menu, I have to try it. There were maybe 10 flavors or so but I just got the regular milk tea. It was great. The bobas were cooked well and I was satisfied. The food was pretty decent too. We both got the bento box and it was incredible. Our server was also AMAZING. If I were rating her alone, I would give her 6 stars. She was an older asian woman and was amazingly friendly and I enjoyed her serving us.

Came by today because my brother and I had a craving for Ramen. We ordered one pork belly ramen, and one spicy beef ramen. Both came fairly quickly from the kitchen, about 20 minutes with the restaurant mostly empty. The broth was very good in both, but the noodles were obviously pre-packaged, as they sat in clumps or would form cube-shapes in the bowl, like they had been dried previously in the shape. My pork belly was extremely fatty(even for belly) and the spicy beef was quite tough. If you’re looking for an alright bowl of ramen, this is okay, but if you want a real traditional bowl of ramen, this isnt the place for you.
