Somewhere Along the Way is a new(since October) art gallery and coffeehouse in Micanopy. It went into a space that previously was a hair salon, a florist before that, and had been built has the town’s post office many years prior. The current owner has redone the interior and made seriously the most of it possible, with its bright green walls leading the visitor to overlook its humble cinder-block construction. The selection of artwork is diverse, but expectedly following a loose theme of Old Florida, regional landscapes, and bright, tropical colors. Paintings, sculpture, and photography all are well-represented. The owner, Mark, is very friendly and outgoing and has already hosted a number of small concerts, painting workshops, and other local events. Micanopy has very much needed something of this nature for quite some time: while the small town thrives with its antique shops and is renowned for Pearl Country Store’s BBQ and the local Fall Festival, an on-going, fixed, point of community conversation and space for events has been lacking. The coffee and tea offerings are not vast, but ample enough and seem well-prepared. Certainly a place very worth checking out and one I think will only see a growing importance in the community.
