Ordered take out as a treat for the family tonight. The woman who took our order on the phone was very nice and polite. The delivery driver prompt and professional. However when we opened our delivery we discovered it was totally wrong. We called the restaurant back to tell them about the mix up. Both my wife and I were in shock by how rude the young lady who answered the phone was. Realizing we were not going to get what we ordered we figured we would settle for what we got. Well, what we got was disgusting! Crab rangoons that smelt and tasted like rotten fish. Steamed dumplings filled with who knows what… and to top it off …a fortune cookie that read.“glad you liked it”.

My husband and I love the food ! I have to say we were disappointed last night in the chicken wings. Our dinners were delicious as always but the appetizer wasn’t as good. We always order the wings well done and they just weren’t right — we hope you didn’t change anything !

After a long day at work I finally make it to drive my daughter and nephew to Newport for the 4th July fireworks. We decided to eat before and we wanted to try a Chinese Restaurant here. After finding ChingTao, I must say that I was immediately happy as soon as we walked in. Clean, welcoming, the staff are friendly when the atmosphere is perfect! We ordered the Spring Rolls and Crab Ragoo for appetizers… Oh my GOODNESS! The crab Ragoo are amazing and the dipping sauce was delicious! For dinner I ordered the Shrimp with Garlic Sauce served with white rice. I have to say that the waiter was pleasant, patient, friendly, attentive, and had the best timing… He knew when to bring us our food at the right time!!! Lol I really enjoyed this Ching Tao! I couldn’t stop telling he kids of how Ching Tao is my new best Chinese Place in Rhode Island. I most say got the restaurant jack pot! My food was fresh, delicious, and they served enough for two people on one dish. Loved it! I recommend it to everyone and Chinese food lovers like myself… Food Lover & Lash Artist

Overall I’m very happy with the food and the service. I’ve been here 3 or 4 times. The Pork I ordered was a bit dry and poorly seasoned. I sent it back and the Manager gracefully took it off my bill and provided a differant dish.

Ordered some delivery tonight. Came in good time! We ordered a General Tso special with a side of Beef Lo Mein and some Chow Mein. It was ALL so good! I see that some people didn’t like the duck sauce, but honestly it was good. It was darker in color and the texture was more smooth than like apple sauce like we’re used to, but the taste was still right on.

A disappointment. Fried rice was bland & very dark in color, egg rolls had pork & shrimp? they were passable, crab rangoons were oddly sweet, and Kung pao shrimp had those strange little baby shrimp w veggies that looked past their prime. I thought they forgot to include duck sauce but it was just almost black in color. Oh, and a 65 minute wait for delivery instead of the promised 45 minutes… I will not order again.

I ordered the Moo Goo Gai Pan Dinner Combination. It had chicken slices, water chestnuts, bok choy, pea pods, celery, & mushrooms. It came with a side of pork fried rice & an egg roll for $ 10.25. The egg roll was pretty standard: pork, shredded cabbage, carrot, etc. The pork fried rice was a generous portion & was seasoned so it had a dark black color to it. Ironically, It didn’t really have a strong flavor. The color though was a bit odd. The meal wasn’t bad but It wasn’t really very good. I would try other Chinese restaurants in the area… It just wasn’t good enough for me to order from there again.

Best Chinese take out on the island. Delivery is quick, usually only about 20 minutes to Newport. The Ham Fried Rice(with extra egg) is delicious — still nice and soft, not fried crispy. Appetizers are all yummy as well. Not much else really stands out as amazing — but as far as typical American style Chinese restaurants go, Ching Tao is a good bet. Boyfriend and I were disappointed that the vegetarian choices are fairly limited, and they only sauté their tofu, none was fried. I have only ordered take out/delivery. The restaurant inside is fairly dated but looks like most typical Asian restaurants in the area. Plenty of parking in the lot out front.

Best Chinese I’ve had in newport. Really wish they would deliver on base but no such luck. They serve the best crab rangoon I’ve had anywhere. More stuffing than wonton and more crab than cream cheese. Complete opposite of most places. Hunan chicken was great and fairly healthy. No breading or heavy sauce although I expected it to be a little spicier as I asked for extra spicy. Next time I’ll just ask for extra extra spicy I guess. I wouldn’t rate it as a must try if you’re visiting newport but if you’re in the mood for american chinese then this is the place. Oh! And a full bar with a good pour.

They have the best sweet and sour chicken I have ever had. The white rice was really sticky but not inedible. We also got not sesame chicken which was super tasty and some of the best fried rice we’ve had in a long time. Highly recommend this place.

When I lived in Middletown this was my go-to place for Chinese, hands down. The pork fried rice is delicious with a ton of pork, and I’ve never had better wonton soup as instead of just broth and overly-thick wontons they give you soft wontons, pea pods, some green leafy stuff(ha sorry, don’t know what it is), and pork. Now that I live in Seekonk I miss going to Ching Tao, so when I went to Middletown this month to see my parents I made it a requirement to get some takeout. The family that runs it is really friendly too, so if you’re in the area and are hankering for some Chinese food you should give this place a try… and get the wonton soup!

I’m not from the area, but pass through semi-frequently. Needing something to eat, I looked for something and this was the first place I came upon. The parking lot was filled, so I went in with the assumption that it was good Chinese food. My assumption was correct. Because of how busy was, the staff was very swamped. Since I was by myself, I sat at the bar. The bartender was working by himself, but also had to deal with walk-ins, take-outs, and call ins. I saw how busy he was, so I didn’t care all that much when he didn’t ask me if I wanted a drink, but the least he could’ve done was put a water up. The food was very good. It wasn’t gourmet or homemade, but it was good Chinese. The portions were good and the prices are reasonable. The best part of this place: the men’s room. Two side-by-side, undivided toilets, and a urinal directly in font of them. Throw in a sink, a trash can, and some cleaning supplies, and it was an absolute party. Unfortunately, I didn’t get to share this experience with anyone else. I would go back.

Underflavored food in a dining room a little too crowded with average prices. Big fat meh. We ordered fried dumplings for an appetizer. The dough was as thick as a pancake, which made the whole thing a little flavorless. I had Kung Pao chicken and it tasted like raw veggies. The sauce was underwhelming. My wife’s General’s Chicken was okay, but the consistency of the meat was too soft and the sauce was again, lacking in flavor. The restaurant looks like most mid-range Chinese restaurants, with the same prints on the wall and round catering tables. The dining room is a little over-crowded. I learned a little too much about my neighbors. And the restaurant is inexplicably popular, so you’ll wait for a table. While there are some restaurants that are not amazing, but satisfying if you’re in the neighborhood, this is not one. This is the kind of restaurant to drive a little further to avoid. It’s not awful. It’s not even bad. It’s just kind of disappointing.

My wife & I frequent this establishment quite a bit, it is our go to location for something quick and good in a pinch. I wouldn’t say its the best Chinese but on the island its better than most. We stick with the old standbys wonton soup, oyster wings, kung pao chicken, chicken fingers, and house egg foo young. The staff who delivers and the wait staff in the restaurant have been nothing less than excellent. Always super nice and polite. The food is great for the price!

Hands down the best American Chinese restaurant I’ve ever been to. I grew up in Newport and every time I come home I have my Mom put in a order as I’m coming over the bridge. The Combination with pork fried rice, golden finger, boneless spare ribs and beef on a stick is amazing. I also recommend General tso’s chicken, chicken chow mein, and egg rolls. My grandma swore by the crab rangoons also. The boneless spareribs have never once been fatty. If you’re in town, check this place out! If you’re local I’d put them in your delivery rotation. Now if I could only get them to open Ching Tao West in San Francisco.

This is one of the best Chinese food restaurants on Aquidneck Island! I don’t think I’ve ever been disappointed and I’ve been eating here for years and years. The Happy Family is delicious! I also love their Chicken Fried Rice and Chicken Egg Foo Young. This is a true FAMILYOWNED and operated establishment. They are always friendly and the delivery is quick.

It took us a little while to find this place. We drove up and down the road trying to find something to eat, and I finally found Ching Tao. However, I think we passed it 3 times before actually reaching our destination. The service was good, as well as the food. It was a little nerve-wracking that we were the only ones in there, but I guess that doesn’t tell too much about the quality of food. The chicken was super fresh, and my fiancée’s chow fun was pretty good. We are pretty spoiled when it comes to noodles and green tea on the table before dinner. We frequent Hunan Dynasty on Long Island, and I think we are trying to compare it a little too much to this place. Either way, it satisfied our Chinese food craving when we were pretty sure there was not going to be any good Chinese restaurants in RI. We were wrong! Tip to the restaurant: Try to work on the lighting, and the noodles are a bit too thin! We want something we can dip into duck sauce!

..Well, I wanted to like this place. I REALLY did. I decided to try it, and when I called the girl on the phone was very pleasant– as was the delivery guy who dropped it off.. Sadly, they cannot make up for the really bad quality white rice, and the Kung Pao Chicken that was so greasy, I contemplated sticking the chicken in the fridge over night, and taking off the hardened grease to make some sort of nasty chicken smelling soap. . The Ribs were good, and the home made duck sauce and spicy mustard they give you is also very good(Reminded me of the Chinese food we use to get in Massachusetts). The ONLY saving grace to this place, is that all the meat and vegetables seemed very fresh. Would I go here again?. .. Probably not, unless I wanted a reminder of my childhood.
