It was so bad, I asked for my money back. I ordered chopped beef sandwich. It was a watery tepid mess. One bite was all it took. No mas Johnny! Run don’t look back!!!

Went today ordered ribs and hot link plate. ribs where overcooked dried up like jerky links where cold no flavor on the Lima beans. I wish it was like it use to be. I did like the strawberry lemonade.

Mac n cheese was the highlight. The BBQ was not of expected quality for such a prolific place. Disappointed. Beans were more a ranch style than BBQ flavored that you would want. Service was average

My experience at Johnny’s is very lack luster. They had already ran out of ribs at 1:00 pm. The jalapeño sausage or hot link was like eating a hot dog filled with cheese. The Brisket was dry, seemed not to have any smoke ring and the slices were uneven and had a bland taste. All sides were mediocre at best. Don’t try the baked beans.

Brisket was fatty and chewy. Place seemed dirty. Overall not the Johnny’s of the past. This used to be one of my favorite places. Gone downhill.

Dirty and worst«barbecue» I ever had. It sure smells good from outside, but I think the smoke is just to lure you in. That smokiness sure didn’t go into the meat. Everything is seasoned with chili powder. If you like that in your bbq, this place is for you. As for me, I would give it negative stars if I could. A friend ordered the chicken sandwich — you would think that a chicken sandwich from a bbq joint would include chicken off the pit. Here you would be wrong. The chicken came out of a deep fryer even though«bbq chicken sandwich» is on the menu. Never going back.

Had a chopped beef sandwich with their green beans. It was pretty good, the BBQ sauce is pretty watery but the flavor was pretty good. I didn’t care too much for the green beans, they weren’t bad, but weren’t great. There are not too many choices in downtown midland but this one was pretty decent actually. I’d come back.

This was my first and last visit. Heard good things about this place and finally made it in. Small portions, little flavor and dirty place. About half way through the green beans I found a fly in them. Not very appetizing.

I haven’t been inside the restaurant yet, so I can’t comment on dine-in service. My apartment complex had Johnny’s BBQ cater for a party. Great brisket! Even the potato salad was delicious(and Im not a fan of potato salad)!

My expectations fell very short. It pains me to write a negative review as the staff was extremely helpful, the atmosphere is fitting, and the price was reasonable. The food is just not good. The chopped brisket and beans were flavorless. The sausage was okay but nothing memorable. There are better BBQ options in town.

I wasn’t too impressed. The beans had NO flavor and the BBQ sauce wasn’t impressive in the least. The rest was ok.

The peach cobbler surpassed my expectations! Perfect dessert. I had the one meat plate which consisted of the brisket, Mac& cheese and green beans. The food had pretty good flavor. The beef was a little dry, but I tend to prefer the marbled beef and they served me lean beef. I should have asked for what usually eat. Nice that they had their own little parking lot because it’s surrounded by lots of tall buildings and very few lots.

Came here at 11:15 for lunch on a Monday. I got the chicken sandwich — it comes with bacon and pepper jack cheese. It was real good! The green beans I got as a side were tasty too. Spicy tangy BBQ sauce was delicious. The sandwich combo with drink is just $ 7.56 with tax. Pretty good deal. Service was very good. This place gets busy during lunch on the weekdays. Will go again to try the other BBQ.

I’ve been wanting to eat here all summer before I go back to school. I finally ate here today and I must say that I rather enjoyed it. They have various meat options like sausage, ham, links, chopped beef, etc. They also cut the meat right in front of you so you can tell them how you want it cut. The staff is friendly and the place is clean. While its not the best bbq I’ve had, I would say it ranks up there!

GREAT beef(sliced) and jalapeño linkage — best BBQ in Midland — don’t believe the hype from those other losers… this place is the BLIZ!

They didn’t even grill the burger. :( Had their lunch special mushroom burger. The cooked burger was taken out of foil, re-heated on the grill with mushrooms that were previously sautéed out of a plastic container. I could’ve ordered dinner the night before and made a leftover meal the same way at home. Pretty disappointing for 8 bucks. On the upside… the flavor was good. Just… warmed over good, though. The vintage style sign on the outside of the building redeems them… just a tiny bit.

I just went to Johnny’s and got a chopped beef sandwich on Texas toast, was just as good as it always was, maybe even a little better. They now have a better size of container for side dishes which is just the right amount of potato salad or cobbler as an accompaniment to the main dish. I would still say the barbecue sauce is not my personal favorite as far as what suits my taste although it is very good. I think cigarette smoking is still allowed inside but I always get mine to go so that’s neither here nor there with me. I haven’t seen anyone light up the times I have gone in, though.

Johnny’s… the brisket calls me back once or twice a week for lunch. That said, the place is a bit dirty, dingy, can have flies, and allows smoking(although there are rarely smokers at lunch). Used to be an absolute deal but recently raised lunch special to the ~$ 6.99 level. Still pretty good for what you get. If you get a nice cut of meat from the older, more experienced meat chopper, it can be excellent. Sometimes, however, the brisket is sub-par and very fatty. On good days, for downtown Midland, this can be a solid 4 stars. On so-so days with super-fatty brisket and a smoking patron, it drops to 2 stars.

This place is the best BBQ I have ever had. Gotta love the wet brisket!
