Chicken fried steak was much too breaded and not very well seasoned at all. Mashed potatoes need a lot work — bland. Difficult to eat a chicken fried steak off of a Styrofoam take out box. Cornbread was good, similar to jiffy brand sweet cornbread. If I go again I will not order the chicken fried steak or mashed potatoes.

A maiz ing… we were so happy to find a place open on a Sunday during our driving trip. Here’s the deal. Walk in, sit down, order, and try not dancing around when your order gets to your table. The to-go container is more of a dare then anything else. You want to finish your meal, but you know you have a built in back up plan. No room for dessert, but they looked goooood, pecan pie slice and(sorry I don’t know) pink cake !

Went there and order 2 lbs of brisket Togo! Got back to work and opened the box. And it was all this hunk of Fat it was gross! Took it back and the rude girl who was so nice to take my money was not so nice no more. She could not refund my money had to wait for Scotty to come. Wait for about 30 mins which I can’t believe. And then Scotty comes looks at the box of fat for 24 bucks and said what’s wrong with it! OMG! I am from Kansas City! And Scotty BBQ would never make it there bad food and bad service! Make sure if you have a take out order you check it before you leave are you and not get your money back food bad oh well.

The food is not consistent the oxtails we had today was really tough my 11 year old son was really disappointed and that’s kind of strange for a little boy who eats anything the only thing enjoyed was the corn bread my wife and mother in law had to send back the oxtails because they were like eating a brick really tough the hours of the restaurant are not consistent it’s always changing everytime we go they need to figure out what they gonna do and the hours of operation the only days I’ve ever been there was on a Sunday now they close on a Sunday today was the last day

My husband and I stopped in for lunch today on the recommendation of a friend and we really enjoyed our meal. The parking is awful and perhaps they need to work on that but everything else is great. I had the Smothered Pork Chops and he the Chicken Fried Steak. The sides were awesome the corn bread is to die for, no butter required. The service was quick, friendly, and attentive. This place is completely without pretension so if you are looking for a decently priced meal with honest cooking Scotty’s is your place.

Wow. This food would make you slap your Momma… For not bringing you here earlier in your life! The décor is nothing special. I pulled up and questioned if I should stop here. It was empty at noon on a Sunday and looked run down. But we decided to give it a shot and boy am I glad! The food was just like your grandma used to make it, If she could also make great BBQ! The macaroni and cheese was so creamy and perfect, the mashed potatoes were delicious, and the brisket was perfectly tender. Unfortunately I was passing though on a road trip, so I’ll have to savor this memory for a while!

Terrible parking, décor nothing special, everything’s served in a to go box with plastic utensils and paper towels. NONEOFTHATMATTERS. Food, service, price are the holy triumvirate of restaurants. This place has real love in every serving. Ox tails(yes!), brisket, okra, cabbage, greens, corn bread. Mac & cheese better than momma’s(hope momma don’t read this). Service was offered with genuine happiness. Prices were very fair for huge plates of food. If you’re in Midland, don’t miss Scotty’s.

We stopped in after church at Kelview today. We usually rush past on our way home, but have been curious to stop. Today we did. Wow! So good! We ordered a pound of lean brisket and a plate of smothered pork cops with black eyed peas and mashed potatoes with gravy just to sample. Upon entering the restaurant, the aroma was inviting and the greeter was welcoming. Even other patrons waved at us. Nice friendly and clean atmosphere. My husband, daughter, and I shared the plate and brisket. The 2 pork chops were large and we were able to all have plenty of sides to sample. The mashed potatoes were homemade and so good. We all wanted more. The peas were fresh and flavored so good! The gravy was light and flavorful. The brisket and sauce were melt in your mouth yummy. The corn bread was really good. Can’t wait to go back to try the other sides. The waitress told my husband we’d be back and she was right!

Every time I come here I get ox tail, cabbage and yams with Kool-aid. If it was a buffet I’ll probably never leave. He has the best dill potato salad.

So girlfriend and I decided to finally try Scotty’s today for lunch. I had been meaning to try and get in here since it opened but I could never find the opportunity. They’re only open for lunch or very early dinner so I’ve been short on chances to make it. Upon walking in the place seemed clean. It’s also non-smoking which is always a plus. We were greeted and seated right away. Not too many people were in at the time so I’m not sure what the seating time would have been otherwise. Keep in mind that they do not have fountain drinks so any sodas or waters will be from a can or bottle and be charged to your bill accordingly. I ordered the meat loaf with sides of macncheese and green beans. Girlfriend ordered the sliced brisket with sides of macncheese and corn. Now, the main reason I wanted that mac was because of the main Unilocal photo that you see above. Doesn’t that look good? Well let me tell you it was great. Typically we try to diversify the sides so we can have a little bit of a few different things. I’m glad we didn’t because I wanted all the mac for myself. My meat loaf was tasty moist with plenty of flavor. I was a little disappointed that the green beans appeared to be from a can but when I tasted them they had to have been spiced up or flavored because they were really good. The green beans were a good surprise. Girlfriend’s brisket had good smokey flavor but was a little dry. At least the piece I had seemed that way, she didn’t complain about it though. I already talked about the mac and the corn was canned with nothing particularly special about it. Service was good, we were approached several times while eating to make sure everything was ok. Portions were more than adequate. Overall, I really enjoyed this place. Our total for lunch was $ 26 before tip. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Scotty’s to anyone. I’m a fan, hence the four stars. Next time I’m in I’ll have the smothered pork chops I think.

This place was recommended to me by a native. I now regret everyday that passed before I was finally greeted by their pro staff and served proper-legit homestyle eats. You tried some local place on Big Spring? Shoot, you just missed a chance to eat at Scotty’s! Don’t be this guy. Feed your inner Big Momma.

The food was fantastic. The service, at least for my entire table was excellent. The styrofoam serving trays… eh. I can deal with that as long as the food keeps coming out hot, fresh, fast and tasty. Try the greens. They are perfect.

I want to rate this place higher because the food is absolutely amazing, but the service was terrible. Seriously, some of the worst service i’ve had in Midland and that’s really saying something. When I go back I’ll definitely be ordering take out because the experience of dining in was just not worth it. They serve all their food in Styrofoam packaging and use plastic silverware which just seemed a bit wasteful? I don’t know, maybe it was just me but I thought it seemed silly. That being said, the food is phenomenal! I had chopped beef with corn and mac and cheese, everything was amazing. We were beginning to get irritated with how long we were waiting and how little attention the servers were paying to us, but once we got our food we quickly forgave all that. Like I said, we’ll be going back because the food was great but we definitely won’t be dining in.

I don’t know how I didn’t notice the big, yellow sign before while driving down Big Spring. On a whim, I saw the sign«Scotty’s — Soul Food» It was nearly and Ace-of-Base type of moment. Being from Mississippi, I had to give it a shot. Which leaves me at a tipping point in my review between 3 or 4 stars. Rating it against some of my favorites back home, I might have to go with 2 – 3 stars… However, I’ll keep in mind that this is Soul Food in West Texas, and I can’t really get much dirty south food out here and I’ll go with 4 stars! I walked in and was pleasantly greeted with ‘Sit anywhere you’d like’ — Well, I’ll take this booth right here, thank you very much! I sat down and ordered some sweet tea… Duh! Oh, until they sat the menu down and I saw that they had Kool-Aid on the menu. You know when you have buyer’s remorse? Like when you buy that non-refundable engagement ring for the stripper you just met in vegas last night. Yeah, this was pretty much the same feeling. The sweet tea was good, but I can’t get my mind off the fact that I shouldn’t have bought the ring for Trixy… I mean… that I had ordered Kool-Aid. I saw the special of cajun grilled catfish and two sides. I am not one to ever… ever pass on collard greens, so those were a given and they did not disappoint, it was probably the best thing I’ve put in my mouth all day. They were accompanied by Yams, which were sweet and cinnimany, nearly acting as a desert. I think mine might have been made the day before, they were just a little off(read-starchy), but still good. Now, the catfish special was probably a special because they had too much of it. Again, not bad, but the bottom of it had a skin to it that(and I would know) typically comes from fish that’s been in the fridge for a few days. Still, I can’t knock it too much, it was properly spiced and a very large portion. My friend ordered the Oxtail and ribs, the ribs he said were ‘awesome’ the oxtail he disliked and I ate some and thought it was actually pretty good, just slightly overcooked. So, if you’re in the mood for some home-cooked soul food: come here, get some kool-aid, collard greens, mac and cheese and ribs and save room for one of the desserts your mouth with thank you and stomach will hate you for eating so much, but it’s worth it.

This place opened up right next to my office, so I decided to give it a try. We got there at 11 and we were the only people there. However, it quickly filled up. The servers were very friendly. The food was very good. In fact, it was very very surprisingly good. Everything I had was delicious. I had the ribs which were cut sideways, which was weird. It made it a little difficult to eat them, but they were heavenly. By far the best seasoned ribs I have ever had. I also had the pinto beans which were very good and had a unique flavor. I had yams as well. These things were pure candy. Very delicious and sweet. The corn bread was also pretty good. Everything basically was delicious. Nothing was bland. They gave pretty large portions. They serve your food in a styrofoam to-go box. This wasn’t necessarily a bad thing, but it was a thing. I will eat here again for sure. It is nice to have good food within walking distance of my office.
