I was told this place was good went there and to start off the salsa that comes with the chips taste like ice where it’s been frozen and reused. Ordered a Bloody Mary and it was a small glass for 9 bucks. The orchata was bad and idk but they must not have mixed it before it was served it was like sand and milk … They did not have shrimp enchiladas but we asked if they could make us some. They said they would … But just in case we asked if they couldn’t to make them chicken. Well since they kept switching off waitressing. We were brought cheese enchiladas … I have no problem paying for good food. But I have to say this was the worst Mexican food in midland …

Great Tex Mex. Order the fried egg on top of your enchiladas.(It’s an option on their menu, and well worth it.) This is great, old-school, west-Tex-Mex.(No frou frou dishes here!)

I hadn’t been to Tampico in many years but went recently. It’s a place that’s been around a long time. Atmosphere is typical of a older-style Mexican restaurant and it is somewhat dark inside. I got the Swiss Cheese enchiladas and they were pretty good. Most other places don’t have these. Guacamole was fine.

The fajitas I ordered came quik they were authentic and delicious service was spotty someone only checked on us once when we were almost done. Surprisingly wide selection of food for such a homey place I do recommend it.

Consistently serves up great Mexican food. They have the best salsa in town. I generally order the Chili Rellanos, but had heard they have a great hamburger as well. I ate lunch there yesterday and ordered the hamburger with the green chili and it was awesome. There was plenty of meat! No wafer thin piece of pre-pressed hamburger patty. It is the very best burger in Midland, Texas. It was a very good meal, and the burger was substantial enough I couldn’t even begin to eat the fries. Great food and great atmosphere, and a very friendly and accommodating staff. You couldn’t ask for more!

Best chicken I’ve had in years! Even though in Tampico they don’t really serve chimichangas, this place does them super bien!!! Also the best grilled chile rellenos you’ll ever have! Very friendly and welcoming staff. Great atmosphere

Skunked import beers, brown room temperature«guacamole»(was actually just a half of an bad avocado), watery cheap tasting queso, undercooked rice, and bland and disappointing fajitas. If you want good Mexican food, this is not the place to find it unfortunately.

This place used to be the best. When we go there we had to wait 15 min’s to be seated. For some reason they had the second seating area closed. This place is tiny. Even if understaffed it should have been open. Anyway we were seated in one of the booths against the wall. The lights above were halogen and you could feel the heat coming off of them. Our waiter showed up after 5 min’s and stared at us? I asked do you want to know what we want to drink? He nodded. 10 min pass and our drinks show up. Thank god as it is getting hot under the lights. The waiter promptly turns and goes to another table. At this table he appeared to take an order and disappeared into the back. another 10 min’s pass and he comes back asking us are you ready? Really are we ready? We place our orders. The waiter turns and starts to walk away. I stop him saying can we get some Queso please. he nods. After another 15 min’s he shows up with our food. By this time we are sweating bullets. We figure what the hell the food has always been awesome we will suffer. What we get is food that rivals Pancho’s. It looks and tastes like it came out of a box. Needless to say I won’t be going back ever. Its sad that this place has become what it is. However in Midland it seems everything is this way now. I guess they value the quick fast buck due to the oil boom over quality.

Good service, decent food. I’ve been here several times, but the most recent trip I only had desert. The service has always been good, servers are very kind and patient with little ones wanting to order for themselves, confused elderly gringos, and the soft spoken. This time I tried the xangos, fried banana cheesecake, and my daughters tried the newest desert. The xangos are HUGE! Far too much for one person, generous even for two. The new chocolate chip ala mode looked very nice, and my girls certainly seemed to enjoy them.

This place is pretty good. Lunch service is slow and busy but they do the best they can. The food is above average. The atmosphere is good.

Meal came out before drinks. All the gratuity for 6 or more party was on one persons check. They charged $ 10 for a kids burrito and $ 2 extra for one small scoop of guacamole, which tasted like it had sat out too long. When we went to pay and asked them why so much the cashier was beyond rude. Told us they weren’t going to change the prices though it never said on menu they charged extra. Told cashier we wouldn’t be back. Cashier didn’t care if we never came back. Said they had enough business.

The wait was kinda long for our food, we came during lunch. They give you free chips and salsa to munch on. I ordered chicken quesadilla and it was delicious! There were huge chunk of chicken and a lot of cheese. usually quesadillas are flat, but the ones I had were thick! haha

Fantastic enchiladas was in town for a gig and decided to follow other Unilocalers advice and try this place and the enchiladas were outstanding. It was just down the street and the leftovers made for good drunk food before passing out in my hotel room. I got a sample of all 3 enchildas in red sauce and enjoyed chicken beef and cheese

We needed a really quick lunch spot to take my husband’s parents before their flight back to Detroit so we stopped in here and were delightfully surprised! Our server was a friendly older woman who said she’d push our lunch order to the front since we were in such a hurry. You’ll walk through a little courtyard which feels more like somebody’s backyard than a restaurant parking lot. The décor is kitchy cute with faux brick walls painted and low lighting. It feels like you’ve stumbled into a little café in the middle of Mexico. Salsa was spicy and bright tasting with fresh chips. Our lunch came out almost before we’d finished ordering! My husband got the beef taco lunch plate and still can’t stop comparing everything else to those. I think they were so good, they’ve ruined tacos for everyone else for him. My chicken nachos ½ order was huge and delicious! If you find yourself with a craving for yummy Tex-Mex, get yourself to that side of town and try some Tampico!

I have to give props to all the fellow« Unilocalers» for the recommendations about this place. Thanks to you, I was willing to give it a try since I had YET to be amazed/awed by the mexican food in the Permian Basin. I have to admit… I WILL be going back here because the food was YUMMY! The prices are reasonable, the service friendly… and so is the ownership/management. Any place that has been able to make it here for at least 40 years is quality in my book!

Tampico… I love this place! I work on the south side of I-20 in Midland and we have so few really good places to eat around that side of town. So we go eat lunch here at least once a week! You have to get there early to avoid the lunch crowd!!! Enchilada sauce(red) is flavorful & has just the right amount of spice. Beans are fantastic! Of course a cold Tecate goes perfectly… but of course I don’t indulge when I have to go back to work! Ssssssssssssssh FYI: closed on mondays!

Wow! I can’t believe that no one has reviewed this place yet. Tampico is hands down the best Mexican food restaurant in Midland. I used to love going there as a kid. It’s still a required stop when I come home to visit. But, like w/any good place, you’d better arrive early, or you’ll have to wait forever to get a table. The chips and hot sauce that they start you off with are homemade and delicious. The enchiladas are always cooked perfectly. The beans and rice are really good. And the selection of ice cold Mexican beers is great. The atmosphere is like being in Old Mexico. It’s the«Mecca of Mexican food» in Midland. You really should try this place.
