I am a regular patron at Café Caturra in Midlothian. I’ve met friends their for lunch or a quick cup of coffee as well as conducted business meetings there over a meal. I find the atmosphere great for conversation, the staff is always friendly and welcoming and the food is good. I much prefer time in this local café as to the big chain coffee shops. I highly recommend a visit to Café Caturra in Midlothian.

We’ve been here several times before and I always find it enjoyable. The café is comfortable and nice-looking on the inside with a lovely patio. Plus, there’s a separate banquet room for large groups so they won’t disturb others. The drinks are nice(I recommend the strawberry mango smoothie or the chocolate shake) and the food is delicious. The issue I have is some of the portion sizes are rather tiny. If you come for lunch or just for drinks and tapas then this place is great. However, if you come for dinner, you might leave hungry if you have a big appetite. The atmosphere is very chill and some of the employees are nice. I say some because I’ve encountered a few ditzy little waitresses that either hate their job or think that work is the time for socializing. A couple of time I’ve seen what I assume is the supervisor on duty reprimand the younger staff for goofing off and ignoring their tables. Not to worry. There seems to be enough decent employees here that it won’t sour your experience but so much. I like it here enough that I like coming here for afternoon drinks with my husband on the weekend. It’s a nice place to have a refreshing white wine spritzer so why the heck not?

I met an old friend here for lunch. I had heard the name of this place mentioned before, but hadn’t been myself. So when my friend suggested it, I was eager to check it out. This location is nestled in a shopping center over by Capital Ale House on Midlothian Turnpike. So when you go in, there is a register area to your left, and you look at the menu there and order. Then go sit wherever you like. The inside area was very quaint and inviting. There were high top tables, some sofas, as well as regular lower tables… a little something for everyone. Since we walked over to the side, I didn’t get to see the other side of the restaurant, but it all looked nice from what I did see. Since I hadn’t looked at the menu prior to coming, which is unusual for me, I was trying to select something quickly since my friend was ready. My friend ordered the pick 2 and chose the Arugula & Goat Cheese salad and Tomato soup. I ordered the Fattoush salad, which is similar to a greek salad. Though later, I wish I had added some chicken to it. just to make it more filling! Also — You are given a number to put on your table and the food is brought out by servers and they will remove plates too. So, you may want to tip when you pay at the beginning! I’d probably give this place 3.5 stars for now. Definitely enjoyed the salad, even though it was $ 10 without any meat. I do plan on going back here soon to try some other items as well!

This place is almost great. But either the food or the service misses the mark each time I visit. I love the décor. The atmosphere is welcoming and casual. The big fireplace is cozy; cool art abounds. But sometimes the waitstaff is MIA. Sometimes, a food item is bad. The last time, my soup was gross. Another time, my grilled salad wasn’t grilled(this item has now been removed from the menu). Tonight, my curried chicken salad sandwich was bad. More curried mayo than chicken, then it had an additional dredge of plain mayo on the other side of the lettuce. The portions are sometimes small; the prices are a bit high. But customers are never rushed. You can sit for a while with your laptop or a friend. But there is a good chance you won’t get a refill, or an offer to try dessert.

I ordered the tomato basil soup and roasted turkey guacamole sandwich. I enjoyed the soup more than the sandwich. It was savory and filling. The sandwich was ok, not much flavor. I enjoyed the live acoustic music the night we went. It made is a nice surprise and spiced up the food.

I love the atmosphere here, but the food is inconsistent at best. Today I had one of the specials– white bean and artichoke soup. Big mistake… Very salty, basically inedible. Almost as if they used jarred marinated artichokes that are already salty and briny and then added more salt to the concoction. The bread slices they served with it were good. The soup was also very watery… When I think of white bean, I think of a velvety consistency. Not so. I am not saying that I won’t return, but I almost expect the food to be mediocre, so maybe next time, I’ll be pleasantly surprised.

I USED to LOVE this place. Today was different. My friend is ill & I am disappointed. I live in Texas now & it was on my list to go here on my short trip back in VA. I loved the chocolate torte & the salads. Today we went & the sandwich was good but it took forever & was smaller. The salads seemed old, brown & limp. The water was warm & had stuff in it. There was a shortage of dressing. The wait staff seemed nice but not very attentive. Also I asked for my favourite chocolate torte & they said they didn’t serve it till 3:30pm. So we decided to just wait till then & order it b/c it was already 2:30pm. Then at 3:25pm I went up to order the dessert & they said they were out of the torte. Then when I was surprised another waitress taking a break scowled at me — I guess b/c I was disappointed. So so disappointed in the entire experience. I feel bad that it was my friend’s first time there & I had talked it up so much. Now she is sick(probably from the bad salad) I hope it gets better but I doubt I will return. I guess I have to find a chocolate torte somewhere else.

Lovely place, great ambiance, indoor and outdoor fireplace, clean, comfortable … so what went wrong? The food. At the waitresses’ suggestion, I ordered the Reuben. The beef was thick cut, tough, with way too much fat. The sandwich was impossible to bite into without it falling apart. I had to disassemble it and pick through the fatty beef, eating meat and bread separately. I may give CC another chance some other time but definitely order something else.

Had the fabulous fish tacos… made with cod… fresh salsa and guacamole. Just spicy enough to make you want to take another bite. The cedar brook Pinot’s noir goes great with the tacos… some chips on the plate also.

What a cute café! It has a very open floor plan and nice artwork on the walls. The fireplace is beautiful. Service is friendly. You order at the counter and take a seat until they bring your order. How are the food and beverages? Delicious! The pork panini has a tasty mustard that I absolutely couldn’t get enough of. I asked for a side of fruit, and it was a large bowl of melons, grapes, strawberries, and pineapples. I was pleased. My bf got the reuben and peppered chips along with a mocha. Very good too. We checked in here on Unilocal and got a free cookie of our choice! They also have a selection of Mighty Leaf teas.

Cozy. Great background music. Love to sit by the fireplace when cold with a glass of wine and a book, or brunch with friends. This is also a fab place for happy hour. A+

Love this place. The food is delicious and fresh and the atmosphere is perfect for a quick lunch or a happy hour drink. They even host events such as a wine and paint night my friend and I are considering going to!

This is only my second time visiting this place! Really enjoyed the fireplace on this cold fall day. Food was great, customer service was fine not overly friendly though! Would recommend over Panera any day!

Nice comfortable night out for a drink. Always enjoy coming here for a drink and dessert. It is nice to see that they have been able to expand into a bigger space. We enjoy coming here for a drink lite night. It is nice to be able to sit outside around a fire when it is cold.

My review here is mixed. Sandwiches are good here and their half and half with soup salad or sandwich are great. I prefer this over Panera. For lunch, great Baked goods is what knocked this down a star or two. I went in to get a muffin. The guy had no idea which was which but recommended the chocolate peanut butter. I got one, it was a black bottom muffin. Came back and exchanged it. Got in my car. STILL wrong. It was a tasteless, black and white muffin. I would mind less that they got my order wrong twice if it tasted at least decent, such a waste of calories. Go for lunch, skip the baked goods and don’t ask which is which.

I chose CC for my Mother’s Day brunch, I wish I hadn’t! First off I ordered a Bloody Mary, right before drinking it I noticed a hair wrapped around the celery & bacon. Blehhh! It was replaced, but not removed from check. Secondly, I ordered my eggs fried hard and I stressed that. I received them over easy. The server asked me if I still wanted them… uhhh«no». Thirdly, my husband received no meat in his Corner Mess, the waitress asked him what Mess he ordered… shouldn’t she know that? Lastly, and this isn’t a big deal but the waitress asked me if I wanted jelly or butter with my toast. I did not get my butter, when I asked her for it again she walked away and brought it. An apology and/or compensation for all of these things would of been nice to say the least. Once I find a hair in my food, I ban that establishment.

This is such a cute place, I was pleasantly surprised to find it here. They have a bunch of coffees, salads, and sandwiches as well as being a wine bar and having happy hour. My kind of place! For lunch I ordered the half salad/half sandwich deal and got the argula & feta salad with the roast beef sandwich. I was hoping to taste the horseradish but it was very very mild, lacking a bit of flavor. My mom ordered the curry chicken sandwich and again, the curry was very mild, verging on being a bit bland. Curry is NOT bland so I’m not sure whatsup with the muted flavors but they could certainly take it up a notch here. Other than that, everything we had was excellent and I’d like to return to try some of their wine and tacos.

**** update 9⁄27 they now no longer serve my beloved breakfast sandwiches on the weekend. I don’t understand!?! This was my husband and my favorite place for breakfast and now they don’t even have them… Guess we will be going somewhere else for brunch now. The waitress said they still serve them just only on the weekdays?! That makes me even more upset. We drive here for the breakfast sandwiches for a weekend treat. I even took tons of pictures of them in previous reviews and visits… I hope management listens to feedback and changes. I will call ahead before coming again. I am a huge fan of this place. Love the quality of the food and atmosphere, but a few things are really bothering me and they are things that could be avoided. First, I’m in love w the breakfast sandwiches, but if I get here on a Sunday after 11am, I can still get brunch, but nothing from the breakfast menu, which doesn’t feel right. Many of the ingredients are the same and I now don’t choose to come here if I know I’m going to be after 11am so Sunday brunch after church is not spent here. Second, I hate when I’m charged for a small side of sauce when the sandwich is dry. I loved the roast beef panini… But it lacked enough horseradish sauce as described on menu. When I asked about getting more bc it was dry I had to pay 0.26 for extra. Nothing makes me more upset. So they had to ring my charge card. Probably cost them more than giving me the sauce. Little things, but these little things are what you start to remember. You begin to choosing a place because of the bureaucracy and frustration with little things that ruin your experience. I don’t want to give up on this place, but I hope management makes these small changes… Or I feel that it will affect business. You would have 5 stars otherwise.
