Now that I have weekends off, we tend to visit a lot of new diners for breakfast foods since so many of our local small favorites have closed down. The Midvale Mining Café is a bit older, but still amazing. They are super busy on the weekends, but very quick with getting your food out. The table for 2 is a bit small, and wobbled a bit, but that happens sometimes. Barely a moments wait to get in, helps they are so quick. It can get a bit loud in there due to being so busy, and a bit cramped, but the food is awesome. I can’t wait to try their scones!

Friendly, fast service, but the food made me sad. My boyfriend and I came here for breakfast and got an omelet and the«lite» breakfast. We were wondering if there’s some secret food that they make extremely well that would explain why the place was so packed. Our own food was bland and more expensive than we thought it’d be, and we left feeling pretty gross. I’ll probably never come here again.

I had dinner there last week. They were very busy and the wait was a bit long. However, the food was good. I had the chicken fried stake and enjoyed it. The salad was good and the service was good considering how busy the waitress was. I suspect they could use more help.

Portion sizes were huge! You get way more than you pay for. Nice, old-timey atmosphere. Went on a Monday, so I don’t know how the wait is during peak hours, but I was very pleased with the food and the service.

For me, great service and good food has more of an impact than a fancy or ‘cool’ hangout; Midvale Mining Café always leaves me satisfied and happy! Please don’t be stuck up here(it’s a greasy spoon restaurant), everyone who works here is great and I love that a lot of the staff has 5+ years working here. I love that I’ve seen some of the kids grow up over the years, and they’ve also watched my son grow throughout our visits in the years, they make us always feel so welcomed here! Truly, I get some of the best service at this place, and it’s one of my favorite places for a late breakfast! The service is great, everyone is professional, yet kind and warm; support your local community by eating at places like these! The portions are fairly large, and the prices are pretty cheap. The food isn’t the best, but it’s good; they are happy to accommodate special orders, too! They service breakfast daily until 2pm. If you like unhealthy and friend foods, or your hash browns extra crispy, they will make you happy! If you ask for crispy hash, they deep fry them for you, and they come out like little french fries, so good! :)

Had breakfast here today, and the food was dowright abysmal. I had the steak and egg special with a side of Biscuits and gravy. I asked for the steak medium rare, got it well done. It was tough, chewy, and flavorless — kind of tasted like chewing on a shoe. The biscuits were soggy and crustless, and tasted like they got warmed up in the microwave. I’d rather eat biscuits from McDonald’s. The gravy was another travesty. Thin and flavorless, a wave of sadness washed over me as I dipped my soggy biscuit in it. I ended up leaving hungry because I couldn’t stomach finishing my food. I don’t think I’d wish this breakfast on my worst enemy. The only good part of the experience was the staff — they were really nice and friendly and the gross food came out blazing fast!

I have had two distinct experiences here. Lunch and dinner. I love stopping by on a Friday afternoon to get there special the prime rib. It is cooked well, priced well, and fills me up. It comes with a side of cooked carrots(which I normally don’t like, but these are great) and a large scone that reminds you of something you grandma would make. Thanks service is almost always super fast so you can get in and out on your lunch break. Dinner on the other hand is a disaster. There service is slow. The waitresses don’t check on their tables enough and most of their food is just okay. The prime rib for dinner is still great and comes with a salad and a potato, but the service and the rest of the food makes this a lunch only restaurant for me.

Went there last night(7-28-2015) with another couple. Have been there many times before but will NOT be back. It was the worst steak I have EVER tried to eat. Over done(I ordered medium), no flavor and was like cutting shoe leather. My cousin’s was the same. She complained soon enough that they reduced her bill(thank goodness). I paid full price – $ 14.95 Service wasn’t the best. Server said it was a NEW cook and she talked to him. Hope it helped the next unsuspecting patrons, cause it sure didn’t help us. Not giving any stars because I won’t be back and wouldn’t recommend it to anyone.

We really love this place for a Saturday morning breakfast! The whole family eats for a reasonable price the coffee is good and the waitresses know what they are doing. Food is good and atmosphere is old diner style. Love the oatmeal! Bacon is crispy. We have been several times and the food is consistently good!

Traveling from California to Salt Like: great home food place. Affordable, friendly, yummiest place in the neighborhood(at least from Unilocal reviews). Customer service is wonderful!

I’ve had the macaroni shrimp salad from this place since someone brought it during a pot luck. It was bomb! Finally had the opportunity to go inside the restaurant and try other food. So glad I did. Oh man. Went in for breakfast, it has a homey feel, which I loved! Service was prompt and courteous. The food was delicious and just perfect. The scone was to die for! I can’t wait to go back, I think I’m going to be a regular! :)

Crazy that it took me this long to eat here! It was a great Sunday destination. The prices and variety are great, and the customized booths and bar stools add charm. Husband had the Chile Verde Breakfast Burrito, and like a few other reviewers, wasn’t thrilled with their rendition, especially for breakfast. I had the Chicken Fried Steak Lunch, and was happy with the big carrots served today – not overcooked. The scone was the closest to my Grandma’s that I’ve had anywhere, and I was happy that I could get real butter on request. While the CFS itself wouldn’t have made my list, the gravy put it there. Their Country Gravy is made with bacon! Bacon! Lots of items others were served look great, so I can’t wait to return.

Mining-themed sort of «greasy spoon» diner. Bench seating in center aisle was too low, almost uncomfortably so. Décor and ambiance were very homey and inviting and moderately interesting. Service was friendly but a bit chaotic. The food wound up being very solid, if unspectacular fare and as mentioned elsewhere, there is a lot of it for the money. I wound up getting their cottage cheese and egg plate, which was the only thing that sounded remotely interesting on the fairly scant and a bit uninspired menu. To their credit, though they also included an inexplicable bed of lettuce, the tomato actually had taste to it and they served it at the consistency that I like them most, which is somewhat firm but still flavorful. The scone was overly doughy and sweet for my taste, even without the squeeze bottle of honey butter sauce. Pancakes were decidedly average, but the bacon was in good shape and the kitchen staff did an excellent job cooking my eggs to the way I ordered them, so no complaints there. Wife ordered a veggie burger and cared not to repeat the experience ever again. It’s really about as you’d expect from a place like this, an expectation that begins when you walk in the door. You’re going to get cheap tea(but outstanding mugs), a very light menu, sort of haphazard, featuring dishes incorporating various mining terms(specific to this place, of course), decent service and food, but nothing that will be memorable one way or the other. Places like this do well for either locals or travelers looking for a pit stop, but there are several other places in Salt Lake of this type that have passed them long by.

I have been coming here for years for breakfast and lunch. The omelettes are great and so is the french toast. For lunch I almost always get the club sandwich but if its friday I always get the lunch special. Save room for a scone, they are some of the best around!

If you’re looking for a classic American breakfast joint, with decent coffee and a nice selection of foods, this is a great spot. Their scones are thick and heavy, doughy and delicious. The honey butter they give with it is also very good. The chili verde is red, a little bit spicy and very good. Tender pork in nice bite sized chunks makes for a great side to most breakfast dishes. The eggs(I order over-easy) were cooked perfectly and topped the hash browns well. The bacon is thick-cut and lightly crispy. The gravy is a light color, made with bacon, and is a great side order as it is priced at 50 cents. Great local spot for breakfast, forget about Denny’s and get over to the miners club!

A good breakfast hotspot. Lots of locals. Very homey and chill. Mining pics and whatnot strewn about the place. A cute little Rube Goldberg gumball dispenser by the restrooms. Their signature thingy is a fried scone. You would be foolish not to get one. Don’t be a fool. This is not a farm-to-table type of place but they do a lot of cooking from scratch. One of my regular stops when I’m in the area; give it a shot.
