Pleasantly surprised that the waiter was actually Italian and not a fake one. Great selection of wine. Had the squid ink lobster pasta and it was delicious! Dessert was good as well.

There are a few reasons I love Piazza D’Angelo in Mill Valley. The two brother owners and their brother-in-law are from Calabria where my father was born. They have Italian speaking waiters and they are a family run business with children working too. They are less than a 10 minute drive from my home. They have an interesting diverse menu with seafood, meat, pasta etc. specialties from all over Italia. Theirs is fine dining with culinary delights to satisfy any gourmet types as their upscale clients have discerning tastes. Most wines from Italy come from the Tuscany region but my family’s roots are in southern Italy and they have many wines from Campania, Calabria, Puglia & Sicily. But this is the main reason: their kitchen is like having my own kitchen. Many times I have a taste for traditional Italian dishes and even not traditional, but if they have the ingredients and it is not on the menu, they will make it for me. Pasta ala Carbonara, a Roman specialty, is a bit too rich for me the one portion so they make me an appetizer size, my wife doesn’t like the way small cows are raised so Veal is out but they will make a Chicken or Pork ala Milanese with breadcrumbs, also will do a Chicken Marsala instead of Veal, and a dish I really like is Pasta ala Puttanesca which ladies of the night served to their customers, anchovies, capers, olives, garlic & parsely. The dish you see here in the photos I love… Pasta with Calamari and my wife does too but not the tentacles so I am happy to get them. You can see in the last photo we did«Faccendo La Scarpetta» which is enjoying what many in Italia consider the best past of the meal, sopping up the remaining sauces. «Scarpetta» is a little shoe and when it scoops up the sauce it is magical like Cinderella putting on her glass slipper. I prefer the Italian word«Scopa» which means broom. But, I recall my Grandfather telling me that in Southern Italy 100 years ago that many people were so poor and so hungry they felt like eating their shoes(made from leather from animals).

Stay away from this place. We dine out all the time and while we had heard not so good reviews we decided to try it out for ourselves. What a mistake! Owners are full of of themselves and customer service is not within their vocabulary. For a small town restaurant were word of mouth is everything it is surprising! The owners are too arrogant to care! Needless to say we will never be back and we will encourage everyone who listens never to set foot in this place. The only way we can make them understand is by not eating there. Unfortunately the staff suffers but maybe they should leave too! By the way, food is ok, but with so many choices we go to places that appreciate our business not places that push us away!

Piazza D’Angelo is set in the heart of Mill Valley, with a quaint patio situated along a well-decorated alley that makes for a pleasant luncheon. However, I wasn’t impressed with the food that I experienced on our visit here. Bread: Two sourdoughs are offered, including a walnut loaf. The slices seemed a bit stale and the accompanying oil was lackluster. Nobody took more than one slice. Caesar Salad: The romaine was wilted from far too much dressing, and it seemed that the dressing didn’t have any anchovy in it. The shaved Parmesan was a nice touch, but overall the salad was not good. Margherita Pizza: nothing special here. The sauce is well-seasoned and has a great herbal tone to it, but everything else was quite boring. The crust is a thin version utilized in all their pizzas, but the dough needed a much longer ferment period to develop flavor. Pizza Rustica Con Caprino: Sliced tomatoes, mozzarella and goat cheeses, sun dried tomatoes, Kalamata olives, basil, oregano, and arugula. There’s too much going on here, and you don’t really get any flavor unification. Salsiccia Picantte: This is the best of the three pizzas, with spicy calabrese sausage and Calabrian chile peppers stewed into a ground, saucy topping. It was a good contrast from the tart goat cheese and the fresh cherry tomatoes. This was gone quickly. The patio is absolutely gorgeous, but that’s really the best quality of Piazza D’Angelo.

Piazza D’Angelo is our go-to everytime we head into Mill Valley. It’s a treated customer service and great food altogether. Parking isn’t a problem since MV has such a small town square. Anyways, the food on the menu is all good. I ordered their calamari which is the best in all of San Francisco by far. I would drive to D’Angelo’s just to have it and a beer. Next, I ordered the osso buco with mashed potatoes, a side of kale along along with a glass of wine. The osso buco was rich in flavor and tasted delicious. I’m wasn’t a fan of their dessert menu, but it looked good. Most of the time, I do order a dessert but perhaps my dinner justified the entire meal.

Came here for lunch, it was pretty good, service was on point and attentive. Had a very nice upscale feel with a special for lunch which was nice. I’m not a huge fan of Itallian so I wont frequent but will return. Love the location of this place, downtown Mill Valley close to shops and other restaurants.

Consistently good Italian restaurant, located in downtown Mill Valley. Lat night, I enjoyed a lovely celery root soup, pasta with bolognese sauce, and some spinach with garlic. Perhaps because it was a busy Saturday night, the server neglected to offer me grated cheese for the pasta, but was she was very friendly and responsive. The restaurant can get a bit noisy. Fairly priced for the what was provided.

We were impressed at first because we were able to have a group of seven seated immediately. The décor is nice, the garden patio where we sat was even nicer, and we were asked for our drink orders immediately. I ordered a screwdriver but when the drinks came out I was given a mimosa. No worries, I’m down with OJ either way so I didn’t mind. However, I ordered a full portion of pasta(forget its name but it was she’ll pasta, sundried tomatoes, broccoli, and chicken), and was served a lunch portion. My friend ordered a soup and a lunch portion of her pasta, and while her soup arrived on time, they never brought out her pasta. We had all finished our meals by the time our waiter came out and she could ask for it. This could have just been issues with our waiter though, I would still give the place another try because the food was delicious an they served such a late brunch! The cocktails were super cheap and the atmosphere was nice. Just wish we had gotten better service.

After going here my at least 20 years, this was one of my favorite restaurants. Tonight changed that. After an evening of horrible service(example, the bussers dropped a fork on my friend’s sleeping infant), I spoke to the manager to talk to him about it. His response was, «I’m sorry, but there is nothing I can do about this. Your bad experience already occurred.» I can’t think of a more unacceptable response. I doubt I’ll be back soon if the manager doesn’t even care about customer service.

I can’t comment on the food, because after 15 minutes without a waiter stopping by, we gave up and left. Note that we didn’t get a waiter even AFTER making two separate trips to the host station, first for menus, then(10 minutes later) to politely ask«if a waiter would be coming by… ?» He did come by the neighboring table, about 5 min later, btw, but never even looked at our table. No the restaurant wasn’t busy. I think this restaurant might just suck.

Consistently delicious! The menu changes often but my favorite staple is the tortelloni della casa! I absolutely love that you can order ½ dinner portions(and even ½ glasses of wine). I like a variety and it allows me to try more dishes. Open late when most other restaurants in MV aren’t…

Piazza D’Angelo catered an event I recently had and I was impressed with their service and food. The pre-event coordination was very smooth and they clearly/professionally handled any food and financial questions I had. The event went really well and I cannot compliment the food service enough. It was superb. The food was all high quality and it tasted wonderfully. They even individually labeled the lunch boxes with everyone’s name on it. It looked extremely professional and really eased everyone finding their lunch. I’ve been to Piazza D’Angelo for lunch, dinner and drinks various other times. My experience has always been good but their event catering really wowed me.

We ate lunch from 2 to 3 pm and ordered lunch special. The Ceaser salad was OK. The cheese, walnut and fava bean salad was good. The pasta was just OK. I would avoid the chicken/pasta shells with scant marinara sauce. The squash ravioli had odd flavors. The bread was great and ambiance was very nice. Service was good.

Every visit I have made to Piazza D’Angelo I am impressed with the extremely friendly welcome and service from the staff. The house made pastas are all exquisite. The cocktails here are excellent. The pizzas are amazing from the crust to the sauce.

Friendly crowd where strangers mix comfortably. Seating is always fast and pleasant. Great drinks. Yummy meatballs and pizza at Happy Hour. Huge menu with good choices. Best Tagliatele Bolognese ever.

Some highs, some lows, but the word of the day is «bland.» The chef needs some work on adding spices, acid, flavor. The bean-pasta soup, swordfish, and ravioli all come to mind in this department. The fritto misto was delicious, perfectly cooked morsels of fried shrimp, calamari, and artichoke. It was served with a delectable basil aioli. I could have bathed in the stuff! Dessert was a super berry sorbet with awesome biscotti. Mixologist poured a mean cocktail, the Petrusinu. The drink consisted of gin, st Germain, parsley syrup, and lime. Would most definitely come back for happy hour(everyday 3 – 6 in the bar) for this cocktail and others!

Came here the other night for dinner. Was a little skeptical based on the reviews but it wasn’t too crowded and looked like a nice place to eat. We were greeted and seated promptly without a reservation. The menu had good variety and the service was friendly and attentive. We split a pasta which was delicious as well as a pizza which was very tasty. I’m from the east coast and it reminded me of an authentic Italian restaurant in New York which is sometimes hard to find on the west coast. The ambiance and layout of this restaurant is very elegant and inviting yet it keeps a somewhat casual feel. Definitely my kind of place. I’ll be back here soon for sure.

A really strange experience through and through. I flip flopped between feeling sorry for just how socially awkward our waiter was and a bit offended at how we were being treated. If I am spending ~$ 30 a plate, I want a pleasant experience to accompany the food. We chose Piazza D’Angelo for my birthday dinner because they are open late and offer gluten free options and one of the people in the party is gluten-free. To start with, we ordered a salad to share and gluten-free bread. The waiter told us it would take 10 minutes for the bread to come out, in a tone that I interpreted to mean«are you sure you still want that?» to which we said that it was fine, and yes we’ll have it please. We were taking our time eating the salad and the waiter came over and took my friend’s plate. While she was not done with it, she didn’t say anything –though I am not sure how much she could have said as the plate was already taken and under something else. Our waiter came to take my plate, but I stopped him and told him that I was not done with it. He grabbed my plate anyway and I took my fork and started eating off of it. Like I said, this was an awkward dinner — he is holding on to my plate and I am taking bites of it as slowly as I can. He stood there watching me while I continued to eat. Then said something like«what? were you waiting for me to come over to start eating?» I am not sure if this place has a problem with people eating slowly, but I also can’t imagine how my wanting to eat slower has any negative impact on them. The restaurant was not full and was not closing any time soon. It was so uncomfortable that I started laughing and couldn’t stop. Eventually I finished the salad while he was still standing there and he took the plate. The gluten-free bread meanwhile had not come out, so we reminded the waiter that we still wanted it. My boyfriend and I shared the ravioli and the Cornish hen. I thought the hen was well cooked and I liked the honey sauce it came with, though my boyfriend did not like it. I thought the ravioli was completely bland but he somehow found it «tasty», so it’s a toss up on the actual food. The kitchen got gluten-free friend’s order mixed up, but eventually everyone else was okay enough with their food. The gluten-free bread came as we were almost done eating, and it was cold, so I’m not so sure how it took that long to come out(I get it, they were probably defrosting it, but it should at least be kind of warm if it was defrosting for 40 minutes). Because we had said it was my birthday, they gave us a free dessert which was sweet of them, but not enough to offset all the weirdness. We ended up getting the tiramisu which we liked. At the end, we were pretty surprised that we were still charged for the gluten-free bread. I don’t mind dropping some dough on delicious food, but our party(5 peeps) all left feeling pretty disappointed on what we chose to spend it on.

I came in for late lunch before going to Sonoma. We sat at the bar and got a Margherita Pizza and glasses of wine. The bartender was very friendly. She was attentive without being overbearing. I’d come back for Happy Hour — not sure if I’d come back for a full meal. The Margherita Pizza had a good balance of sauce and cheese. But the crust was just a tad too thick and chewy. The sauce was a bit bland.

There’s a reason why this restaurant has been a fixture in Mill Valley for over thirty years. It serves solid Italian food in a wonderful atmosphere. As we walked in, Domenico, one of the owners, immediately greeted us and warmly escorted us to our table. The place was packed, noisy with families and couples. The menu provides some great, classic Italian options. The market organic vegetable soup is the best minestrone I’ve had in Marin. It was delicious, fresh, and satisfying. The Cesare and the Insalata Di Fagioli were decent as well. We were in the mood for fish and I ordered the salmon all’aneto, topped with black olive pâté over celery root purée. I also tried a bite of the zuppa di pesce, which was incredibly flavorful and rich. And don’t skip out on dessert! The tiramisu was superb with layers of coffee-soaked ladyfingers and decadent mascarpone custard, presented in a glass. All in all, a great evening.
