Had a wonderful dinner at Tamalpie Pizzeria. Service was excellent. Mark took great care of us. Everyone from the hostess to other staff, gave us the perfect amount of attention. We brought our two hounds too. Very dog friendly and accommodating. Goddess salad and a combination pizza, along with Boylan root beer. Major compliments to Karen, the owner, for creating a fine eating establishment. Fabulous experience. A must return!

Loved this place. Was low key and the salad we ordered was perfectly dressed with a lemony brightness. The pizza was thin crust with quality ingredients, cooked to perfection.

Best pizza I’ve had in years… EVO, Salami, thinly sliced zucchini, balsamic onions, house smoked mozzarella on a crust that can’t be beat. With a glass of Montepulciano served up by a personable, intelligent bartender. Cool spot — Well done again

The food is good. The pizza is really good however, I’m quite tired of ording a pizza on the weekend for pick up ahead of time & when I arrive to pick it up I find that the order never got to the kitchen ! Apparently if the bartender takes the phone order it sits on his register/computer? There is SUPPOSED to be a designated person to take phone orders when it’s busy. Apparently that person gets bored answering the phone. For the mistake management offers a glass of wine which is nice but ONANEMPTYSTOMACH? Not a smart choice for me. I was going to email them to explain the issue but they don’t have an EMAIL address so they left me no choice but to air the«dirty laundry» here. Also you CANNOT order a GFLARGE pizza ONLY a small. Why?

Probably the best gluten-free pizza I’ve ever had. Nice atmosphere, everything I’ve tried has been good, small but good beer selection. I’ve only been here on my company’s dime, so I won’t comment on value.

Stopped by & ordered a pizza(half cascade & railroad) & wasn’t disappointed. Karen looked after us & the cascade side of the pizza was very very tasty! A great little spot to eat in or take out.

I think the name is clever but had not had the opportunity to diner here. I’ve heard such great reviews for Tamalpie and I couldn’t wait to try their pizza. Tamalpie has a great reputation in the community and the owner has won the Be the Dream Equity Award from Marin Grassroots. My expectations were met and exceeded. I asked for a table by the outdoor fireplace and the server led us to the fireplace. We sat in casual seating at the fireplace. We eat gluten free and my partner and I were delighted that the gluten free pizza didn’t taste like the preformed hard crusts that many pizzerias in the area serve. The crust looked as if it was made to order and toasted properly. I liked and most importantly my partner liked ordering it as well. I’m a fan!

Great pizza, great service and delicious wine. I only give it 4 stars because the pizza was a tad under seasoned. We came on Valentine’s and they served us even though it was 15 minutes before closing ! Waitress was extremely nice. Food came out with quickness. Wine was Fantastic. Best items : Zucchini fries and Brussels sprouts

we had a nice dinner here. The seating area is nice and there is a nice patio. We ordered a TENDERFOOT pizza wit the zucchini fries. The zucchini fries were amazing and so good and the portion was nice enough to get a full and still share. Loved the pizza had a good flavor and very pleasing to vegetarians that are sick of the same old vegetarian choices.

Very delicious food. Other than long waits, lots of people, and pricey menu– their food is amazing. There’s nothing that I’ve ordered and have not liked.

My brother and I had a long day clearing a storage locker of a parent’s possessions. Having grown up in Mill Valley, we always try to pay a quick visit, and after a beer at a local dive bar, my brother suggested Tamalpie. I am so glad he did, as I have driven past this restaurant several times in the past, and have wanted to try it. Our server was excellent — in fact tonight all the staff who interacted with us were super friendly and very efficient. The sparkling and still water choices are great. Both of us are healthy eaters, but splitting a Caesar salad and a Railroad Grade pizza was perfect. Tamalpie has excellent pizza, the crust, sauce and toppings are excellent. Sorry, no kids to complain about, so our experience was great. I’ll def be back.

I’m taking my review down a notch. Pizza is still great. Service still sucks. Mainly it’s the attitude. This is the type of place where someone from out of town would say«Mill Valley is pretentious». Last time I was in, the way the bar tender took my card and then slammed it back on the counter was pretty over the top. I’m not asking for special«Mill Valley treatment». No, not me. I sold my Mercedes so you can’t pin that on me… or there was the time they made me wait 20(past what they already made me wait) minutes and the owner offered me a drink and then asked me to pay. Gnarly. As I said, if you can put up with the tude, great pizza. Everything else is lame about this place.

The best way to describe my experience at Tamalpie would be to say, «It wasn’t bad,» because to speak about the experience in positive terms would be to oversell it. My wife and I ordered the Blithedale Canyon Pizza. It was $ 17 for about a medium sized pizza, which wasn’t noteworthy in anyway. Again, the best way to describe it would be to say, «It wasn’t a bad pizza.» The service was equally not bad. Personally, I think the place is a bit overpriced for such a «not bad» experience. While I won’t be coming back, I won’t tell anyone else not to come here.

Was so excited to try this place since they actually have gluten free pizza options but my husband and I were really disappointed. There was a gathering of parents and children and so there were children running around being super noisy and disruptive and neither the staff or parents seemed to care and when we got our pizzas they were just ok. There was nothing spectacular about them and mine which was gluten fee was slightly over done so it cut my mouth while I was trying to eat it. To top it off I felt that they were overpriced. Not going to go back.

Delicious pizza and burrata. Quiet place with a nice ambiance. They were moments from closing but the waitress was pleasant and patient with us. If I lived less than 2000 miles I’d be back again soon!

A bunch pretentious and full of themselves. Had lunch yesterday with friends. Will NOTGOBACK was the conscenncious of 4 of 4 at our table. Appetizers were good(great Caesar salad — done the right way as finger food) zucchini fries were pretty good but cut too thin and they cooled way too fast. PIZZA was just just auful. Not to mention they got 2 of 4 pizzas wrong(one was burned black and they served it anyway. What’s up with That? ALL of them looked like dough spread with canned pet food… NO rea flavor profile hete. One of us ordered a pie with mushrooms, .garlic, fresh. tomatoes and olives. When it arrived it looked like the other 2 pies — a good crust covered with. a small portion of canned dog food. NOSIGNOFTHEINGREDIENTSHEORDERED. And. they had the charge about $ 5 extra for the«Special ingedients». The topper — DESSERT. We ordered a BANANASPLIT. They served a split banana wit a. SMALLSERVING of SOFTSERVE that was horrible. Absolutely the worst dessert I’ve been served for as far back as I can remember. Our waiter was from New York — a former cop — and he seemed to really enjoy acting the part. Entertaining in NY but so out of place here. He screwed up half our mesl. And — he didn’t stop back to see how everything was. Just amateurish service masquerading as cool. Expensive for such small pies and no immagination. As I said at the beginning — none of us will ever go.back.- great Caesar salad or not.

First impressions? I’m probably going to be a regular here, because my family needs a steady supply of good pizza, and we enjoyed the food and the local hospitality. Exceedingly family-friendly to our pint sized family of three, Tamalpie is located on Miller, a fairly busy and trafficked street in Mill Valley. Cars whiz by but once inside(even on the patio) you feel like you are in an urban(okay, maybe slightly suburban) oasis. This is Mill Valley after all, but also the atmosphere here is casual and modern, yet easy going. The pizza is wood fired, the ingredients are creative and fresh, and everything we ate was consistently good. I’d say hands down they have a better crust of many of the local pizza spots, but I like a charred crust. We enjoyed the moist and near perfect meatball appetizer –almost everyone makes meatballs too dense or dry, but these were fluffy and wonderful. The brussel sprout appetizer and the zucchini fries are also good starter orders. The full leaf caesar salad is light, crisp and fresh. The pizza sauce was bright and the Neopolitan crust is quite good. We really enjoyed the spring pizza with asparagus and pancetta. We always get the family-friendly second cheese pizza, and this was particularly good because of its terrific, bright tomato sauce and crust. Wine by the glass alongside well-schooled advice about wine, which is normally lacking in a pizza restaurant I find. Service was friendly, and prompt. In all, a spot we’ll return to.

Oh, to be a child growing up in Mill Valley… When my kids were toddlers the closest they got to pizza was Round Table. Blistered, cracker crust versions topped with prosciutto di parma, house-made fennel sausage, and arugula weren’t even an option. Not for their palates, not for my budget. In Mill Valley, the tables are flipped. Last time I went to the Round Table there it was barren and now I understand why. It appears that everyone and their kid is at Tamalpie. I’m not certain what all the kids were eating but I can attest to the goodness of Fried Brussels Sprouts($ 8), Pecorino-topped Broccolini($ 6), and a Tuscan Kale Salad with Citrus Vinaigrette($ 11). A Caesar Salad topped with a grilled chicken breast($ 6) was good too, if a little more pedestrian. A combination of these items would make for a good lunch or light dinner but still, I went ahead and tried the pizza. The pizzas I sampled(Troop 80 and Cascade, $ 16& $ 18 respectively) were nice examples of their genre. Not as mouth-watering or remarkable as the best in the area(that award goes to Larkspur’s Pizzeria Picco) but I kept going in for more and appreciated the texture of the crusts which weren’t excessively doughy. Did I mention kids? The night I went, it was hard to avoid them. I’m not a beast, just someone who prefers not to dine around children now that mine are grown. So know that this place is rife with them and, should you choose to dine al fresco you’ll likely be sharing a long, communal picnic table with them. A lot of them. So there you have it: Tamalpie is a great place where parents and kids and groups of parents and kids can(and do) dine well in an appealing atmosphere. If you’re looking for something geared a bit more for adults maybe stop by later in the evening on a school night. Those Mill Valley kids must surely have a reasonable bedtime.

My friends and I came to eat here before heading out for a hike at Mt. Tam. My friend heard about this place on the radio and I seconded the vote to eat here because of the name. Cute and creative wordplay on nearby Mt. Tamalpais. This place serves artisanal Neopolitan-style thin crust pizza(my favorite kind of pizza). We were seated immediately — we had our choice of inside or outside. It was a bit chilly outside, so we sat indoors, close to the cute little fireplace. Our server, who was super attentive, asked us if we wanted complimentary sparkling or still water and told us about the specials and then gave us some time to peruse the menu. They offer about 10 pizzas, including a pizza of the day. The other pizzas seem to be named after trails or areas at Mt. Tam State Park, like the Hoo-Koo-E-Koo pizza and the Troop 80 and the Dipsea. I love how they pay homage to the Mt. Tam area this way. We ordered the Laurel Dell and the Blithedale Canyon pizzas(I actually don’t know where Blithedale Canyon is and couldn’t find it right away on the trail map, so if anyone knows, please let me know!). The Laurel Dell has fennel sausage, roasted onions, chard, and mozzarella. The Blithedale Canyon has thick bacon, potatoes, mozzarella, fontina, and pesto. We also ordered the meatballs and the bruschetta for appetizers. Our appetizers came out pretty quickly — they were both pretty tasty. I liked the bruschetta, which came with arugula on top. After we finished our appetizers, our server replaced our plates with clean ones and then brought out our pizzas on this double decker contraption. One pizza on top and one on the bottom — what a space saver. I liked the crust of the pizzas — it wasn’t as thin as some other Neopolitan pizzas I’ve had, but it was thin enough and tasted pretty good. The potato pizza was yummy and the pesto added a good flavor. I think it would’ve tasted better without the thick bacon(veggie-style!). The sausage pizza was pretty yummy too. There were four of us and I thought two pizzas and two appetizers was just the right amount of food. We also got dessert — we ordered the s’more sunday, which came with vanilla gelato, slightly toasted marshmallows, and I guess a chocolatey graham cracker cookie. The dessert was all right. Overall, I thought the food was solid. Our server was very attentive — asking how the food was and replacing our water whenever it emptied(which was often). The restaurant filled up pretty quickly while we were eating our foods. I noticed a lot of families with little kids(they have crayons and paper for the little ones to get creative on). At first, our server was the only one working, but then when we ordered dessert, another guy came to help. I thought that the tables at Tamalpie were pretty cool — they are made so that the table tops are cut in pieces big enough for two people to sit across from each other and then they are attached to this bar, so you can slide the tabletops to make them individual tables for two, or combine them with the other tabletops to make a table for four, or for six, etc. Pretty clever design! They also had some cool art above the bar — they were bicycle seat and bicycle handlebars shaped to look like longhorn skulls. They have their own parking lot, but it’s small. This was a good place to fuel up for our hike.
