The place is not much to look at unless your nostalgic for the old days, but the dogs are aonther story. So much better than Doghaus or Slaw Dogs and even TopDog. If you want great dogs come here, if you want a fad with nouveau accompaniments go to the other places. All the dogs are made with real casing so there is a delicious crunch to every bite. The bockwurst is velvety smooth with perfectly blended seasonings. The cheese dog is cheesy, meaty and full of flavor. Every bite of their dog is like an orgasmic explosion in your mouth. This place has the best dogs in the world!

Okay, people sometimes wonder how I pick places to eat. Often times it’s a mystery to me also. Famous Frankfurter remains a mystery as to why it is still in business. I can only surmise there is a number of stoners with the munchies or those that remember this place from years ago and want to relieve some adolescent experience. I seldom give one star… but this time I feel I’m being generous. The fries were rancid. The dog was tolerable as it was crisp on one side and barely warm on the other. Even the Root Beer left something to be desired. I would not come here again.

Nice little hole in the wall that I remember going to 25+ years ago as a child. I had the Cheese Dog and fries and it was really good. The other dogs are yummy and they have all the condiments. The couple who own it/work there are really cute and friendly. Some items seem a little pricey to me, but the quality of their products is really high. I’m glad my brother reminded me this place is still here because I intend to go back many more times. The only thing that sucks is that they are CASHONLY and I had to walk around the corner to the bank and pay an ATM fee.

Passed by this dingy looking place every day for the past couple of years — never thought to actually go in. Well, my favorite lunch places in Millbrae all happen to be closed on Tuesday, and I happened to walk by this place with a growling stomach. Got an all beef dog to go — it was actually really good. I’m going to add this place to my regular lunch rotation. Yes, the décor hasn’t been updated probably since the 50’s, but it’s really all about the dogs, isn’t it?

Famous or not, doglets look and feel about the same. this spot has a litter of seven: –original(3.79) –hot –polish(tasted average, nothing spectacular.) –bratwurst –bockwurst –german –oops, i forget plus the usual sauerkraut, hot mustard, ketchup, relish, onions on the shelf with the pooper scoopers. leftovers: –grilled to order… –place looks like it’s been around a century or 2, –biz here has literally gone to the dogs. only one table occupied. –no chickens or turkey seen, no interspecies mingling here. –cash only.

When you step into Famous Frankfurter, you feel like you’ve stepped into the past — which is both a good thing and a bad thing. This really is an old-fashioned«mom and pop» restaurant, with a half-handwritten menu, an old cash register, and receipts that they made with a pad of paper and a rubber stamp. I don’t think anything in this place is newer than 15 – 20 years old, from the décor to the furnishings to the equipment. But they seem to keep it clean, and they clearly keep their expenses low so that they can stay in business. I can appreciate that! The menu is old-fashioned and simple. Two types of frankfurters(german and old-fashioned). hot sausage, bockwurst, kielbasa, cheesedog, and lemon chicken sausage. Hamburger and cheeseburger. Coleslaw, potato salad, chips, giant dill pickles, and fries. Chili. Milkshakes. Fountain drinks, tea, milk, coffee, and beer. They have a condiment bar that provides chopped onions, sweet relish, dill relish, sauerkraut, ketchup, yellow mustard, brown mustard, and hot mustard. While there could be more, this is a pretty good assortment of pairings for the sausages available. They also offer lettuce and tomatoes for an additional charge. I’ve tried a few different things and every sausage has been excellent and nicely grilled — just a bit of char, warm to the center. The bockwurst is a favorite, very silky and flavorful. The cheesedog is comically long and skinny, but the bursts of cheese filling are delightful! They toast the buns on the grill for a nice long time, and they have a nice combination of softness and crispiness. The potato salad and coleslaw are… okay. Nothing to write home about, but clearly a homemade recipe. The milkshakes are tasty! And the jar of pickles by the register contains some of the juiciest dills you’ll ever eat. I’m definitely a fan, and if I lived around here, I’d eat here regularly. I’ve been here twice at lunchtime and the place is empty — I worry that they don’t see a lot of business, which is sad. It’s not the most visible or inviting place from the outside. Some people will equate«old» with«dirty,» which isn’t the case — but the place is very dated and definitely doesn’t feel hip(not my criteria for a sausage shop, but whatever). And to keep their overhead low, they skimp here and there. My sausages were wrapped in thin paper and handed to me, my sides were put on overly tiny, thin paper plates. I could have used an upgrade there! But if it keeps Famous Frankfurter open, I’ll take it.

Hot Dog Heaven! Call them what you will, hot dogs, frankfurters, sausages, or tube steaks; this place makes the best. My personal favorite is the cheese dog. All the dogs have great flavor, a nice snap as you bite into them, and are served on a fresh toasted bun. They also have burgers, milkshakes fries, etc. The banana shake is awesome. This little place has been around forever, and should declared a national treasure. Go here!

Update: came in today as their Cheesedog is now engrained in my daughter’s mind as the best thing ever… This time we came eight the whole fam and ordered up the bockwurst, and lemon chicken sausage as well. This is the textbook definition of «mom and pop» shop. Both mom and pops were grilling up the dogs and frying up the fries. Simple but good. Hit the spot!

3 stars for this mom and pops spot serving up some dogs They have a polish, german, brat, just to name a few but what I sampled was there old fashioned german frank, decent size, it did have a bit of a snap good eats if your craving a hot dog. On the german link I had your standard ketchup, deli mustard, sweet relish stayed away from the onions they looked a lil dated. the roll was toasted and had a nice crunch the dog was decent and had a fair snap to it as well. food *** I would come back, not great just good service **** open arms even for new folks price $ yeah you can buy 2 and still be under $ 10 ambiance ** mom and pops joint no frills, just some tables they kind you see in grammar school and a help yourself condiment counter for your toppings

Here’re the problems with my review: Did I come on a bad day? It was empty @ 12 on a Friday. I ate something I didn’t know if I liked. Bratwurst wasn’t that tasty(also, it was spelled Brockwurst) The fries were… mediocre-ish. Kind of cold. Good things: The old lady was real nice =) The prices were very reasonable. The old lady was nice? Obviously, I didn’t get the right frankfurter and well, that’s about it. This place is definitely worth a re-review. In fact, ignore this review.

YOU’RETHEWIENER!!! If you’re reading this you won a ‘semi long’ review about me talking about my sausages. LOL. I was scoring around Millibae one day looking for something to eat. Chinese?! No, had that yesterday. Italian?! No, had that Monday. Mexican? Nay, it’s too messy. Then the place came to mind, or the fact that I’m half German. I decide on Famous Frankfurter. Walking to the door, it’s looks empty and dark. I didn’t think it was open, but walking in; I was surprise to see a place where time nearly stood still. I walk back to 1976, where Pac-Man was just a video game, and not a boxer that Mayweather wouldn’t fight. Rocky was Best Picture at the Oscars. Oscar Wiener had a sweet ass car and theme song!!! The place decors that hasn’t change in nearly 30’s years. The only thing change is prices for it. The Frankfurter cost $ 3.94. The bockwurst cost $ 3.94 and yes the Kielbasa cost… $ 3.94!!! You can add Cheese dog and Lemon Sausage to that price. My choice: cheese dog are ok, so-so. It squeezes cheese on your face. Nice money shot. ;) Nothing special. I got bockwurst, but it’s look nothing like a bockwurst. I think I got a bratwurst or a knackwurst. They also serve hamburgers and cheeseburgers. There is fries for $ 1.48. If you want something ‘long’ and ‘creamy’ try the banana milkshake. They do make good milkshake, probably the best item to get there. It’s a hole in the wall, a ‘glorious’ place, but the staff are iffy. I know it’s a Mom ‘n’ Pop Establishment run by two elderly Asian Couple, but it’s has a little ‘hard’ on… giving customer service. The elder woman look at me as if I was a bug that need to be squash, but she seems nice enough. I happen not to look at Unilocal when I came here, so I didn’t know they didn’t take Credit/Debit Card, but she was cool when I came 25 cents short of the price due to lack of cash. So I say this: bring Cash!!! Also the hours different and they closed earlier than most places. 7PM most of the time. Overall: Minus the odd service, if you want doggy, do try, but it’s nothing special. Next week I will be talking about my Nintendo Wii Wii!!!

The hot dogs are alright but not satisfying. The fries are skimpy to say the least and the soda comes out of a two liter bottle. The old couple running the place is cute but spends more time watching Chinese drama than running the place.

I went in due to all the good reviews. I was expecting a reaaaaaaaaal good hot dog. Especially with all the rave reviews about the cheese hot dog. It was just okay. It wasn’t super-tasty or anything. I only tasted the cheese b/c I was looking for it. Also, it is too pricey. The milkshake on the other hand though was pretty tasty. Next time, I’m just going to head to Costco for a hot dog.

I have been comming here since I was a crusty lil kid. All sweaty after weekend soccer, softball, track, basket ball… My dad always called it «Nobel frankfurter» My order changed as I got older and started smoking lots of pot. «Double cheese dog please…» I have never had anything else on the menu. Yet I have heard the cheeseburger, chili, and milkshakes are awesome. closed sundays… and close at like 7 AWESOME

An old time favorite from my Millbrae stomping grounds. FF has been there as long as I can remember. The cheeseburger is good. Sausages excellent. But my fav is the cheese dog. This place is a total hole in the wall, but their grilled food is good stuff. They also have good milkshakes. The owner/grill/cashier isn’t overly friendly, but can make a heck of a dog.

First of all, i called the number, and asked if this was famous frankfurter and the lady couldn’t understand me. Second, I find it on the side street next to El Camino Real. The Place is Dark, I didn’t even think it was open. But I cannot diss this place too much. It’s an older Asian couple trying to make a living. She fried up a hot dog in less than 3 minutes. The Dog was appropriately priced and was meaty. Albeit it’s not a great place, I wanted to let everyone know I admired this couple. Definitely a dying breed. A Mom and Pop Operation until the end.

Ice flakes(from freezer burn) in my milkshake, bland brockwurst, and watery cheese in my cheesedog. I’d rather go through the effort of making it myself. Two stars for being a cute mom and pop place and and hot crispy fries.
