I just had a very negative experience with delivery from Jade Lake Gourmet. We usually order from there about once a week, so we are(were) regular customers. Today we didn’t get white rice with the order and the driver didn’t have exact change– All I had was $ 40 for a $ 32 bill. When I called the restaurant, they told me I wasn’t entitled to white rice since I ordered brown and had steamed chicken.(The brown rice was supposed to be in addition, not instead, and I paid extra for brown). Who doesn’t include white rice? Plus they said it was«not their problem» when I complained the driver didn’t have change. I asked them to send him back here with white rice and change, and they refused. They didn’t even care when I said we wouldn’t be ordering from them again. I don’t care about the rice– I’m more annoyed about the horrible response to my complaints and they clearly didn’t care about retaining my business. Wanted to advise to stay away.

Always plentiful, tasty fare. Especially enjoy their tofu and vegetable dishes.

Called 20 minutes ahead for pickup. Arrived on time. These guys are backed up like crazy and they keep on taking orders. If you can’t fill the order in a reasonable time, you should tell people, not take the order and add it to the queue. Ridiculous. Large group of p’od people milling about. Been waiting 20 minutes now since I got here. Have no idea when I will get my food. They were very eager to take my money though. They have 3 phones for one lady to answer. They should get 3 more cooks instead. Will never come here again.

Over an hour for delivery is ridiculous! The place is less than one mile from my house and it takes over an hour to get my food! Never again will I waste my money on cold food from this establishment!!!

I usually order from Bill and Harry’s but everyone on SOMA Lounge raved about this place. I grew up on great chinese, as a native NYCer. This place was not good. Homestyle tofu is WAY better at Bill and Harry’s but otherwise the chicken and broccoli, dry sauteed string beans, and soup is exactly the same. Meh! Just can’t get good Chinese near Maplewood. So sad…

The food is better then average for the area, highlighted by fresh vegetables in the dishes that actually taste fresh. We have dined in and done take out. The chicken and broccoli is fresh and flavorful. The general tsao chicken and fried rice are excellent dishes. We have made this out go to after other area Chinese food is either fried to death or bland. It is a wonderful establishment to go to of take out/delivery

Pretty good. Nice interior. Very clean and tables are well situated so you’re not cramped. All food is average or slightly above average. Dumplings and dim sum are very good. A solid spot of you’re in the area.

The restaurant is very pretty itself, but some of the food is terrible! I ordered the chicken, and it was almost rubbery and bland! I went with a friend who ordered beef lo mein and said the same about hers. The service wasn’t very good either, and our food took forever to come. Because of the negative experience that we both had, we haven’t gone back since, so I don’t know about the other food. Overall, I’m not very impressed.

Mediocre Chinese good but they are clean. It took forever to receive our food. Service was poor. Sat next to a bunch of high school girls talking about«how hung over they were». Can’t say it is the restaurant’s fault, but just shows ambiance isn’t exactly a high point here My friend had vegetable dumplings and we waited almost 30 minutes for them. While they were presented in a nice basket, arriving 20 minutes earlier would have been appreciated. The hot & sour soup was ok. Can’t rave about the broccoli in garlic sauce either. There has to be a better Chinese restaurant in millburn.

The pineapple chicken with fried rice was awful. I left the entire dish. The chicken was floating in this thick, gooey awful sweet pineapple mush they call sauce, and the ‘fried’ rice wasn’t fried at all. It was completely white.

Visiting my sister in Millburn, we tried take out from this place. My quick impression based on what we ate tonight is that this is a perfectly reasonable local restaurant, but there wasn’t anything that jumped out at me as special. House Special Wonton Soup — Good flavor, nice assortment of vegetables. The wontons have a rather thick noodle so I found them to be a little imbalanced(too much noodle, not enough meat.) Fish with Ginger & Scallions — This was the best dish we ordered. Lightly fried fish with tons of aromatics. Mixed Vegetables in White Sauce — It’s not exciting, but sometimes you want a dish with lots of vegetables. This really fit the bill. Assorted vegetables, all cooked just right so that they’re cooked but not mushy, and a light sauce that adds flavor without covering up the natural taste of the veg. Sesame Chicken — Thin slices of chicken in a much lighter batter than most other preparations I’ve had. This was pretty good. Pepper Pork Loin — When putting together this order, I wanted to make sure I got something with some heat, so I perused the menu for one of their spicy items and settled on this. Wow, was I disappointed. Not even a trace of spiciness. Was there supposed to be a sauce on this that they forgot? Battered and fried pieces of pork with onions and some other aromatics, but zero heat and not much flavor either. Seriously, there was no hint of pepper, so maybe they did forget the sauce? Roast Pork Lo Mein — Nice preparation. Not oily, the right ratio of pork to noodles. Solid. Beef Chow Fun — Another good noodle dish. So overall, it was a good experience. Mostly solid dishes, with one above average and one that was a huge miss. Good enough to try again, certainly, although not an immediate favorite.

Meh«chinese food», but not surprising since Millburn is hardly a culinary hotspot. Friendly staff, decent wonton soup(wrapping not too doughy or thick) & lemon chicken(lemon sauce on the side & chicken is lightly breaded) is excellent. Alas, these standouts aren’t enough to pull this place from a 2-star rating.

Love this place! We typically order the chicken with broccoli, special lo mein, and chicken with garlic eggplant. Fast, easy, quality meal.

A Chinese Restaurant where you can sit down in a clean and nice setting. Food and tea are delicious. Get the steamed dumplings and vegetable lo-mein.

We go to Jade Lake on occasion and have always found it to be a good place to eat. Mostly families tend to go with their kids. So, it’s not really a ‘date’ place. The appetizers are interesting and tasty. We had the dumplings pan fried. Terrific. And for the dinner we had their peking duck. As we always order the whole duck, we don’t order anything else. It’s enough for about 8 pancakes. The pancakes are chock full of duck meat and crispy skin. It’s a BYOB so it saves on the cost. I definitely recommend it.
