We went there for the first time last night(Sunday). They close at 8 on Sunday nights; we got there about 7 and it was very quiet — perfect.(Oh, FYI, they are closed Mondays and Tuesdays — good to know so you don’t waste a trip.) My mom had seen it on the Phantom Gourmet the night before. She was telling me about it & I said«we have to go there immediately.» Not sure how I’ve lived in Worcester for so long and never even heard of it. We will definitely be making up for lost time. We ordered a ton of food to share. It was me & my daughter, my sister & her son, and my mom. We got the garlic knots, clam fritters, clam chowder, lobster roll, lobster mac & cheese, calamari dinner, and the fried clam dinner. The garlic knots were fantastic, and *extremely garlicky*. Seriously, no kissing until everyone’s tried these — this is not something to order on a date! The clam fritters were good but not the best I’ve ever had. The clam chowder, though, was smoky and delicious and full of clams. It’s easy to see why it’s won awards. In fact, my mom ordered a cup of it to go as we were leaving because she wanted to have it for lunch today. The lobster roll was simple and good, just a ton of lobster with a little mayo and celery. The lobster mac & cheese … oh my good lord. It’s made with cavatappi pasta, which holds the gouda perfectly, and SOMUCH lobster. It should come with its own chorus of angels. I didn’t get to try the calamari dinner because my 13yo nephew was guarding it so jealously & I was afraid he’d stab me with a fork. He seemed to be enjoying it, though. We ordered the fried clams b/c they were out of oysters. They were delicious, but we were disappointed because we were really looking forward to oysters.(The Phantom Gourmet usually lets them know when they’re re-running the show, so they can plan, but didn’t this time.) Really really NOT disappointing though — the french fries, which tasted like they were potatoes about half an hour before, and the ultra-vinegary coleslaw. Both of which were up there with the best I’ve ever had. We had leftover fritters, clams, lobster mac & cheese, and calamari dinner. My nephew & I had ice cream for dessert. The coffee ice cream is delicious, and I am VERY picky about coffee ice cream. The small cone was quite large — I couldn’t finish it after all that food. We will definitely be back soon: We have to try the oysters, and we were just too full for the fried dough sundae, which sounds like a can’t-miss.(Let that sink in a minute. Fried dough, with an ice cream sundae on top. Yeah, that’s what I thought.) Plus they have pizza and a five-layer lasagna that have gotten great reviews. IDK if I’ll ever go there and be able to NOT order seafood, but the lasagna, especially, sounds just insanely good. So, long story short?(Yeah, I know — too late!) Run, don’t walk — Scales is phenomenal. Even the little detail-y things were perfect. The staff is friendly without hovering. We sat at the table looking at the menu for at least 20 minutes before we went up to the front & ordered, and nobody bothered us. I’m so happy we finally found Scales!

My girlfriend and I had the best fried seafood dinner ever, I would like to give a big shout out to Scales in Millbury! From placing the order to having it served about 10 min, the food is soooooooooo fresh, and I am scared to say it, way better than Ronnie’s. We ordered«Tip the Scales» tons of bay and sea scolops, shrimp, best whole belly clams ever, big piece of fried haddock all topped off with a half pound of(the best ever) onion rings and french fries… enough for 2 big people and have leftovers, 24.99(22.99 plus $ 2 for shrimp) The menu is huge, featuring seafood of course, but their pizza and sandwich selection is outstanding, they also serve home made lasagna and meatloaf, the restaurant also features some unique décor, this place is a must if you live anywhere remotely near. This place gets my pick of the month for a night out without the kids.

Scales seafood & Moore finally someone got it they put their take out orders in pizza boxes because the steam would ruin the fried seafood that’s the smartest idea since sliced bread I wish more places would do that especially if you’re serving fried food a big thumbs up

Even though the location is kind of specious and the restaurant is hidden, but that still didn’t change my mind about trying out their food. Their lobsters mac & cheese is a must try! The clam chowder bread bowl was definitely something I’ve never taste before. Although the lobster roll was a tad small and I didn’t think the price was reasonable for what I was getting, but it was still good to me. I didn’t think the homemade meatballs was all that good. This place seem more like a restaurant to go for when you’re craving for seafood.

Decided to have a lunch after reading Unilocal reviews. Started with New England clam chowder which was spot on!!! Followed with fish and chips which also very good very friendly staff and helpful. The restaurant was clean except the ceiling fans if I had to knit pick on cleanness, will be back for sure great value!!!

Clam chowder was good, but don’t get the bread bowl, they don’t take the bread out before putting in the chowder so you don’t get very much soup. Had the fish and chips, fish was ok but should have been fried harder. And they only take cash and do not give receipts! Hmmm I wonder why, very interesting lol

Reasonably priced, order the seafood salad and was told that it contained canned crab and lobster. Only found fake crab no lobster. I thought the woman at the cash register also stated that there was scallops although I might be mistaken. Extremely small portion. Clam chowder did not taste homemade. Will return to try one of their seafood dinners. If that is a failure I will not return.

We went to this place«on a whim» because my sister had seen it on phantom gourmet. It’s not bad. Their seafood really is delicious. I had the seafood antipasto salad, we got a pizza, and a fish & chip plate. The fish & chip plate was big and pretty good. We split it between two people. My salad was… eh. It was ok. The seafood on top was great and tasted awesome, but the lettuce was less than fresh or inspiring(just iceberg, unfortunately). The lack of freshness in the base of the salad really made the price seem too large for what I got. The pizza was surprisingly the best part of it all. The dough was really good, the sauce was tasty, and the price was right. Overall, this place was good. The décor was charming, and the service alright. We didn’t try anything else that night, but if we go back, we’ll steer clear of the salads.

There was nobody here when we walked in on a Saturday afternoon — perfect! It was our first time, so we took a long time reading over the extensive menu and ogling the super-cool décor. The young lady behind the counter was very patient! I decided to get the fried calamari and my fiancé got the fisherman’s platter(or Scales’ equivalent). I also got a mango smoothie because I am obsessed with mango smoothies. I was a little disappointed in the taste of the calamari and the mango smoothie. The smoothie tasted like 95% orange — I couldn’t even taste mango, which was a bummer since you know, I ordered a mango smoothie. I am very picky about calamari, and they just unfortunately did not hit the mark. It was GOOD but it wasn’t GREAT. The fries were pretty good — nice and squishy like I like them :) My fiancé agreed with me on the calamari. We are big seafood eaters and like things fresh. Maybe we just came on an off day for them? The best thing either of us had were the fried scallops in the fisherman’s platter. BEST Scallops ever. The coating was perfect and cooked for just the right amount of time. Unfortunately the amazing scallops did not make up for the sub-par rest of the food and the very sub-par smoothie.

This is the first time and last time I’m coming here. First, I was disgusted by the ketchup bottles that look like they’ve been used over 1000 times. Really? How expensive is ketchup? Not to mention that it wasn’t even Heinz. I ordered the clam strip plate that came with fries. It looked like a huge plate of clam strips but in reality it was a big mountain of fries with a small layer of strips. The clam strips were average, nothing special. The fries were disgusting, brown, and re-fried. I asked for a new order of fries with not much improved. Its BS that phantom gourmet approved of this restaurant. This place is mediocre and I will never come here again.

The lobster roll was excellent, only thing is it’s small but that’s why it’s $ 12.95. We also got the clam strip and tip the scale plate and was not impressed. Too greasy and heavy. A huge turn off was the refried fries which were saturated in grease. Just gross. Another turn off was the old ketchup bottles, you can tell they reuse them and just fill them up. Think of all the germs on them before you touch your food! Yuck. Wouldn’t make the hour trip to come back again.

We just had a fantastic meal here. Garlic Parmesan Crusted Haddock was delicious. Husband loved the lobster roll with whole pieces(not shredded). Topped it off with some refreshing locally brewed root beer. Will definitely be coming back!

This was the first time my fiancé and I was in this area, and after a long drive up we were hungry. So I searched thru my trusty Unilocal app and found this place. We plugged in the coordinates into our GPS, and off we went. Thank god for GPS, without it I would have never found this place. While following the directions we ended up right in front of the sign for the restaurant our GPS told us we had reached our destination??? All we saw was the sign, a parking lot and not much more around us. It took me a moment to figure out that you had to drive into the parking lot plus drive all the way down to where there were cars parked and even then I really didn’t see the restaurant, but it was all good, we saw people coming out of the place doing takeout. Really, from the name of the restaurant and the location of the place we didn’t know what to expect, but when we went into Scales Seafood & More, we were very pleasantly surprised. This was a great find. It was a really large clean space, with mismatched tables and chairs their decoration was very nice and interesting. They had really big chalkboards hanging all around the cashier window with their menu written out. For me it was just a little less overwhelming to just look thru their takeout menu, plus look at their specials board. They offer starters & add on’s, chowders, pretty large salad selection, specialty pizza, fried dinners, entrees, plus more. My eyes are always bigger than my stomach when I am hungry, plus there was so much to choose from. I really had to refrain myself. I knew I wanted seafood because I was told they bring in fresh seafood every day. I asked the person working behind the counter what she recommended. I told her I wanted some whole clams, scallops, and fish(haddock preferably). She recommended their«tip the scale», it included everything I wanted, including fries and onion rings. For $ 22.95, I had enough food to feed 2 or 3 people. Their onion rings were really thin everything was battered so lightly and cooked perfectly. My haddock fillet was so big and hearty it was delicious. My fiancé ordered their lobster roll which was amazing. It was whole lobster coated with very, very little mayo, plus a sprinkle of celery and it was fantastic. We took our time eating and just enjoying our lunch. The funny thing is that we mentioned this restaurant to our friends who live in the area and they never even heard about this place and they definitely want to try it. I can’t wait to come back here again.

August 23, 2014 Mom and I had been less than impressed with the last few seafood meals we’d eaten. Either her order of fish and chips was way too greasy or my chowder was nothing but water and potatoes. We were looking for a restaurant that would bring our love for fried seafood back, and one of the first places we thought to try was Scales. Mom found Scales by watching Phantom Gourmet. The owners of Scales have appeared on a few different reality TV food shows in the past and are now running an awesome seafood restaurant in what looks like an old factory. Other than the menu, the reason the place is called Scales is because of all the antique scales that line the restaurant. We were even more excited to try it because of all the great online reviews. We took the drive to Millbury and found Scales thanks to the large sign on the main road. Otherwise, we would have never noticed it hiding inside that large building! Once inside, Mom found a table while I stood at the window to place our order under large whiteboards which featured all of their offerings. For our meal we ordered the garlic knots($ 2), a cup of chowder($ 3.95), a clam strip roll($ 7.25), crab cakes($ 6.95), haddock tidbits($ 7.95) and bottled drinks for a total of $ 33.81. We were given a little piece of wood with a number written on it and I took my seat with Mom to wait for our food. We took notice of all the scales — from very large to very small — scattered throughout the large dining area. We both thought that the interior was very simple yet attractive. Our food came out and everything was piping hot. We ordered multiple dishes so that we could try our favorites since we aren’t in the Millbury area often. My chowder was absolutely fantastic. In fact, it was one of the best chowders I’ve ever had — if not THE best. It’s a tie right now between Scales and Captain Parker’s Pub in West Yarmouth. The broth was made New England style — white, thick and creamy — and was filled with perfectly cooked potatoes and tender, juicy clams. As hot as it was to eat, I was slurping down every bit. It was incredible. My clam strip roll was delicious. The batter was dry and the clam strips were tender. The roll had been buttered and grilled, but perhaps there was a bit too much butter for my liking. However, it didn’t take away from the taste. I absolutely love clam strip rolls and this one was one of the best. Mom’s order of haddock tidbits was fantastic. Again, the batter was dry and crisp and the fish inside was perfectly white and flaky. Her dinner came with an order of fries, cole slaw and tartar sauce. She found the fries to be on the limp side, but she really wasn’t there for fries. The fish was definitely the star, and it was able to take her mind off of all the greasy fish dishes she’s had recently at other restaurants. The haddock tidbits were definitely a winner. As for the crab cakes — they were outstanding. Even more than we expected. There was a LOT of crab meat mixed in these beautiful cakes, which were also stuffed with a variety of different vegetables to enhance the flavor. The taste was out of this world. The crab meat was juicy and sweet and the red sauce that was served on the side was cool and refreshing. We have a suggestion for the chef — how about putting these cakes into a wrap with some lettuce, tomato and a drizzle of the sauce? You could call it … I don’t know … a New England Bite? Last, but definitely not least, we tried the garlic knots. They come three to a serving and they are HUGE. Soft bread knots are served warm with fresh garlic smeared over them. They were extremely tasty and a great way to end the meal. They are addictive, so be prepared to get a to-go basket of knots for the ride home. Scales doesn’t just serve seafood. They also have a large pizza and sub menu as well as an ice cream window. There’s something for everyone here, and delivery is available for lucky residents of Millbury. We saw the two owners briefly when they stopped to ask everyone in the dining room if their meals were OK. The staff at Scales was very friendly and the restaurant — including the restroom — was spotless. Also, Scales is cash only and BYOB. Mom and I left full and happy. Our love for fried seafood had been rejuvenated thanks to this Phantom favorite. Taking a cue from The Most Interesting Man in the World: «We don’t always visit Millbury, but when we do, we’re going to Scales.» Visit for more tasty reviews from Southern New England!

Rustic and out of the way. All the seafood tastes fresh and is well prepared. Highly recommend the lobster roll. Kids meals are a solid deal. Many alternates to seafood(about half the menu). Steak, pizza, and some pastas. But again, this is a seafood place, stick with that and gone home full and happy. NOTE: Cash only. They have a ATM, but it has a high charge.
